We were so disappointed in this motel.  We do not mind an older motel, but our room was so dirty and the room looked as though nothing had been changed since the 1960's.  Behind the night stand there was a power strip that was covered in some kind of sticky grime.  There was dust and crud along the edges of the room, the bathtub had moldy grout, and under the bathroom sink.  It was so gross, that we almost slept in our car.

Quaint but filthy

Based on the “Exceptionally clean rooms” advertisement, we decided to try this motel on September 9,2022.   First thing you notice in room #3 is the stench.    Then you see the utterly FILTHY carpet and the only chair in the room is equally filthy.   Proprietor claimed the carpet is simply “stained” . Of course we DO know the difference. There is damage all over the room including dents in the fridge and dirt and scuffs on the walls .   Please don’t be fooled by the advertising for this place.   We would request that the proprietor be forced to change these ads.

FALSE ADVERTISING

So glad to have found this place. We were glad they had a cancellation the day of check in. 

It had a clean bed with two pillows each person. Blankets in the bed. A/C and heat unit. Table, dresser, and side table. Cable TV. Mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Hot shower with bath towels, face towels, and hand towels. Soap and shampoo provided. Nice staff. The area has trees and a lawn. Good corner lot in a residential area. 

The only thing I would improve is to have the deadlock work.

Cute and clean motel

Beautiful older hotel. Room was large, with two queen beds, and a full kitchenette. Full-sized refrigerator. Bathroom was kind of small and the shower head was weak. Beds were a bit too firm for my taste but I slept well. Nice AC unit kept the room cool during a heat wave. Easy parking and access to room. Friendly staff. I would definitely stay there again, even thought the prices have tripled since the pandemic.

I was here for 2 night for work very nice rooms very good price and plesant checking in, I was here last summer for work and will keep coming back. The rooms are clean and cozy with fridge micro wave very comfy pleasant no noise

You definitely get what you pay for. Room was filthy and had an unpleasant smell. Something that I hope was some sort of food splashed on the walls. Lamp shades and curtains were so dirty I'm not sure what color they were supposed to be. Toilet ran the whole time I was there. There were days that house keeping never came to clean or replace towels. Hot water ran out quickly so don't expect to wash yourself off in a nice hot shower Holes in the walls and ceiling were poorly patched and not even painted. There are cameras all over, it's the kind of place where they might be hidden in the rooms too. The wifi was free but, didn't work very well, and after I connected to it all sorts of weird stuff started happening to my phone (new apps I didn't download, processes that hadn't been there before started running in the background). Pretty sure I saw a few drug deals go down in the short time I was there. Also heard some people talking about doing drugs and paying for sex. My advice, Stay away! Pay the extra money for your own safety and get a room somewhere else.

Bates Motel

Nice older motel. Clean rooms. Easy location to get to. Counter staff was friendly. Room had a fridge and microwave which was nice...close to the zoo and other attractions. The bed was a little hard and uncomfortable, I would stay here again

We stayed here for 3 nights.  We were not willing to pay the high hotel prices around the Duluth area during a July weekend. This place is reasonable. 

It is a nice motel, built into a hill, off the beaten path. Motel staff was very friendly.  We never once had any noise issues. Room wasn’t large & fancy like some hotels we generally stay at.  But, it worked out well. It was big enough for what we needed. 

Bed was fine.  I slept well.  Free breakfast wasn’t anything great, every morning I went to a McDonald’s not too far away for breakfast. 

Lake Superior Zoo is about 1 mile, that place is awesome.  Numerous bike trails in the area.  If you bring mountain bikes along, you have a nice trail to jump on in the back of the motel.  There are also numerous cool trails throughout the Duluth area.  

Getting to downtown attractions was easy, it was only a 10 minute drive from the motel. 

Affordable, quiet, and close to attractions 

Our party was looking for two rooms for Duluth MN on Labor Day weekend.  We had difficulty finding hotels that were under $300 per night - I think the cheapest I found down near Canal Street were about $250 a night with taxes ... So, we searched for something more affordable.  Allyndale Motel is a little off the beaten track in actually what is known at West Duluth, but still only a 10 minute drive to the Canal St. area that has so many wonderful restaurants and the famous elevator bridge!  I found the hosts at the front desk very friendly and helpful, and overall the stay was great.  Just a little freshening up with some paint and new curtains, and I would say this place is classic!  It was very clean, hot water was hot, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable.  The motel sits adjacent to a greend space that is attached to the Superior Trail - so close to some nice walks.  This is a place I would come back to -- especially for the price!

Cute retro-motel very appealing!

I stayed here with some friends the other night and I was very unpleased. I went to go to the bathroom and there was two squares of toilet paper on the roll and no other rolls in the room. There was clothes still in the dresser. The WiFi didn’t work on my laptop or phone as well. The breakfast was very small, all I saw was some coffee and a few snacks and cereal. The worst part of it all was that there was what looked to be bullet holes in the wall. The picture on the wall has two very clear holes in it and the wall was scattered with tiny holes that were very poorly plastered up. I attacked a picture of the wall, although the picture does not to it justice. I would most definitely choose a different place, pay the extra $10. I will have to say though that it was a quiet little place and the staff was friendly and there was a nice big grilling place with nice grass.
