We stopped and checked in and after checking out the room we asked for our money back. We smelled bad odors and mildew and could see a dirty environment. We expected to see bugs and rodents so we did not stay more than a couple of minutes. 
The desk clerk said that he would refund our money, however, he did not. We stopped because it was late and we were tried. However, we traveled on for two more hours.

Un-Livable

I was given rm 123,OMG it smelled like cigarette smoke, and there is very large stain on floor ,looked like someone spilled their withers or got stabbed,, I told the front desk and she just did not care, so I go and turn up the air conditioner to get it cool in there, was 98 degrees outside,, cranked it down to 66 and waited for the cold to start, well lo and behold I look to see if window was closed and God is my witness there is NO WINDOW!!!!!!,, I found a loose window to put over screen but had to go to front desk to get some tape,, the lady at desk wouldn't even come and help me tape a window in,, But she gave me masking tape and I did that, was scared to check bed for bugs but I didn't see any Thank God, the carpet is FILTHY ,did not take my shoes off,, went over to St Marys and took a can of citrus disinfectant from my hubbys rm and walked back and sprayed that crap hole down,, I was so exhausted i didn't have strength to go to another motel,, I want my money back, I called the manager Albin Timm  andexplained my situation and all he said was,, I will have it checked out!!! The 2nd Strt Inn and Suites NEEDS to be burnt or bulldozed to the ground,, Don't anyone ever go there,, I am totally truthful in my explaining...

STAY AWAY!!!!!!

Checked in, went to our room, and immediately saw crumbs, hair, and dust all over the floor (without trying), and sticky spills on almost every hard surface. Spent a half hour diagnosing why the tv wouldn't work (a wall receptacle wasn't working).  Went to then empty our suitcases in the bedroom, and noticed a piece of cat or small dog feces on the floor! Clearly no care to keep these places clean. Also, mouse poop on the kitchenette counter.
We complained, they switched our rooms (by giving us keys to another room and asking us to check it out). Just as dirty (minus the feces). Looked under the bed and the floor was covered in trash...water bottle, bar of soap, etc...
Immediately packed up and left for the chain hotel half a block away.  More expensive but at least I can take my shoes off in the room and not feel the crumbs and potential diseases under my feet.

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

Don't pass this excellent deal.  The location is perfect-1 block from St Mary's and 5 from Mayo.  Spend the extra $7 and get a king size room. We stayed a week ago in the cheapest room.  It was small with minimal amenities but adequate.  Fir a few extra dollars, the king room had a full fridge and sitting room.  Excellent deal 

Mayo visit

I liked the price and location, an easy walk to much of Mayo, but several reviews here were very negative.  We decided to try it anyhow, and were very pleased with what we found.  The formerly much-mentioned dirty entry carpet had been so well cleaned I asked if it was new.  The breakfast was still continental, but fortified with hard boiled eggs and yogurt for those needing protein.  The eating area is being renovated and should be done soon.  Our room was clean and comfortable.  The bathroom was old fashioned with a tile floor and tub with shower, and smelled clean.  There was a TV, microwave, and refrigerator.  We heard the management company was new, and they are obviously trying to correct past problems.  Give it a try!

Much improved from negative reviews, good value for price

I rarely give any motel 1-star review, so I'm not too picky, but this place was bad. The interior is run-down, the customer service at the front desk was rude. We were asked for IDs (both of us, even though I don't think the whole group has never before been ID'd to get into a motel room), and not just for any IDs, but for IDs with ADDRESSES on them. I had to admit that I don't think I have ever seen an ID that would actually have the carriers address printed on it, and apparently the lady working was out of a sudden happy with passports (just in case there's someone out there wondering: no, a passport doesn't have its holder's address in it).

The room was old and probably never remodeled. It smelled strange and the air conditioning and the fridge were unplugged. The cover of the air conditioner had dropped off, so we could see all the dust and dirt covering the filters. The fridge was so noisy that we unplugged it immediately after plugging it in. I rather drink my soda warm than stay awake because of the noise.

That was useless, though. In the middle of the night, something started beeping in the hallway. A constant beep in every 20-30 seconds. Nothing sound enough to be a fire alarm, but still loud enough to wake you up and keep you awake. Seriously, the only thing you come to do in a motel is sleep. How damn hard is it to take care of it to be possible?

The parking in the back yard is a joke. Everyone parks on the bigger, well-lit lot next to the motel at first because they have no signs saying that they have a parking of their own. The rude lady just told us that "did you see the big sign? It says your car will be towed and it really will!" Well, thanks, but we didn't know where else to park to be able to be honored to be called your customers. The actual parking lot is through an extremely narrow alley to the back from where you have to drag all your luggage to your room (and carry it up or down the stairs...). Had I traveled alone, I would have been scared to leave my car. Yes, that's how shady it is.

The breakfast is limited, of course. I don't expect to be anything fancy in this price range. But even the crappiest motel breakfasts have always, always had milk for your coffee. This one didn't.

Worst is the place we have ever seen. Reservation in hand, cash in hand, car with four children in it waiting to go to the just for kicks dance competition. Would not let us get the room. Because we are in native American I wonder?

No hair dryer; shampoo available upon request. Old, dated, dirty, in disrepair, broken, rusted, corroded, aged, worn, aesthetically disgusting, scary, cramped, poor shower, not ergonomic or friendly to weak backs/knees/shoulders. I washed my hands every time I touched a light switch or door handle.

Convenient free parking, excellent location, fridge/freezer/mwave/wifi, quiet, private, safe, cheap.
