If you’re looking for something that’s not your standard corporate hotel experience then this is a really lovely find. We booked it mostly because of the location and we’re surprised how welcoming and accommodating they were. We had a choice of rooms so we could figure out what worked best with the rollaway bed.

Lisa, the manager, and her staff have clearly been working hard to renovate and raise the standards since they took over over a couple of years ago. There’s still more work to do, apparently, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and the (five) cats that roam the property are charming.

This place has more amenities than you’d expect: a convenience store (with all the essentials including alcohol), laundry, mini-golf, a pool, sauna, mini-arcade with six or seven classic 80s-90s games and pinball. (We didn’t get to try them all.)

Surprisingly wonderful

Friendly, helpful staff in a beautiful location about 30 min. from the southern edge of Humboldt State Park. But it's a small cabin with an even smaller kitchen/bathroom sink. The door to the bathroom doesn't close completely. The toilet was weak. For some reason, we had to pay $160/night-- not worth it. 
Lots of good hot water though! The staff helped us immediately with things when they came up.  The free wifi worked. 

On the southern edge of Humboldt State Park

Not sure what qualifies this place as a resort... the tiny pool? the mini-golf? the dry riverbed running by the property?

That said, it's not so bad as they say. Where our room was situated (right near the entrance), we didn't get to see much of the dumpiness of the property alluded to in other reviews. 

The overall cleanliness is at best so-so. And water in the toilet is indeed brown. I just adopted third world protocols (brushing teeth with bottled water). 

OTOH, we had a nice corner unit with a kitchenette. It wasn't particularly stocked, but it was a kitchenette nonetheless. I hope they don't wash the dishes with the same water though. 

The bed was OK in terms of comfort. Not particularly soft, but not rock hard. We had a rollaway, which ironically was the most comfortable of all the bedding choices. The futon wasn't comfortable at all. 

I did like the fact that we could pull right up to the room and unpack literally feet from the car. Internet was remarkably fast. A/C worked well. There was a nice patio, which stays warm well into the evening in the summer. Kids made friends at the pool... and got to visit some of the other accommodations in the process. They report that the cabins are much smaller and not nearly as nice as our room.

Not much of a resort, but OK for a couple of nights

The rooms are now charming the pool clean and warm.  The new manager Lisa does everything to make your stay pleasant.

The well water is now perfectly clear.

I will be back with my family soon to float down the Eel River.

Amazing how the property has improved.

Our cabin was not cleaned well.
Every item from the coffee pot to the microwave, mini fridge, linens and furnishings were of the cheapest quality imaginable.
We have traveled all over the world and have never been so disappointed.
Could be a nice resort, but the owners need to upgrade the amenities and the facilities.

Very disappointed

Visited on a trip through the redwoods. Probably fine if you're camping and expect dirt, but... 
Motel room we stayed in was pretty dingy. 
Water coming from tap was brown. 
Toilet water was also brown and bowl looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months!
No carpeting and my feet we're black from dirt on the floor.
Reserved Queen suite (1 queen & 1 full size sofa sleeper). Queen bed was fine (a bit hard) but sofa sleeper was Not fine. This was a slightly padded bench which the back folded down, when in the bed position it was about the size of a twin bed with 2 very uncomfortable bars running down the middle.
Played the mini golf course (free) on the property but it is falling apart and needs help.
Did not swim in pool as it looked pretty dingy also.
Overall this was the most expensive night from San Jose, CA to WA and by far the worst.

Uh, No!

Stayed one night and it was miserable. Tent sites are on top of each other which means you endure the partying and noise of everyone else. Lots of trash everywhere from previous campers. Noisy beside highway, albeit convenient. Front desk staff not very friendly.

Dump

Super helpful staff!!  Gave us advice for sites to check out in the area.  They are located 3 miles from the Avenue of the Giants... absolute must see!  We stayed in a cabin which was awesome!  Would definitely stay again in the future 


Roadtrip 2020

This is the first time at the resort since the new managers took over.  The park has been totally redone.  The motel looks beautiful with its new paint.

The room we stayed in #6 has new floors.  The pool and hot tub were refinished.  We will be there agin in the spring or summer so we can float down the river.

After a cold day it was fun to use the wood sauna.

Thanks to management for a fun stay.

Great improvemet

I booked this because i was tired of riding it really is the middle of nowhere there are very little amenities so bring whatever you need the room was decent Scary looking from outside but okay inside staff were great friendly its an older motel with a reno there is a patio and pool play area for kids no restaurants no groceries but they got beer overall not the worst it was clean and safe
