The exterior of the units in severe need of work: repairing brick steps to rooms, landscaping, painting, junk removal.  It looks like the interior of the units has been recently updated with new wallpaper, flooring, bathroom fixtures, painting, tile work. Bed was comfortable.  Room was quiet.  No one at reception when we checked in; no one there when we checked out. A decent place to stay when you don't expect any amenities - or breakfast, or pool or an ice machine. Visiting the California State Parks

HAUNTED! DO NOT SAY HERE. I would give this place 0 if I could.

This place is incredibly sketchy and haunted. My grandfather and I booked a room here with double beds for a single night on a road trip up the coast a few days ago. I woke up at 3am to the feeling of someone watching me. I turned my phone light on and looked around and no one was there. As I laid back down I felt the space beside my bed depress like someone was getting onto the bed. Then, it was like someone wrapped their arms around my body. I felt like I couldn’t breath or move. When I finally mustered enough oxygen in my lungs, I leaped out of the bed with all I had in me and turned on the light. Again, nothing was there. Room #23.

My grandfather and I drove the whole length of the Avenue of the Giants looking for a decent spot to say for the night - with the idea of exploring the Redwoods the next day. We decided the Humbolt was our best option after seeing that many of the residents of the town were living in the hotel rooms of the other motels in the area. There seems to be a large homeless population here. Also many forestry service trucks were parked in the lot, which seemed to indicate something positive if they were staying there. We were so wrong about that.

The other issues with the room were that it REEKED of cigarette smoke. We’ve been back on the road for 3 days and our clothes still have a twinge of that smell - even the clean items in our suit cases. The shower had no official nozzle, it’s like one you’d see at Venice Beach and there was either cigarette ash or mold on the shower curtain. My grandfather also found pubic hair in the tub matt. The overall cleanliness of this place was insanely gross. 

The other patrons of the hotel were also loud, kept their hotel doors open and were pretty intimidating.

Horrible & Haunted! DO NOT STAY HERE

This is the absolute worst motel that we stayed at during a 3 week road trip across the U.S. The check in office was so messed up we had to do the check in papers outside behind it. The proprietor decided to check in another guest before he was done checking me in he finally checked me in but could not find the key to our room. After 15 minutes I had to go and ask him if he found it, he then handed it to me but said he was to busy to bring it to our room. Although the room was just ok there was hair on one of the pillows. The door was very difficult to unlock from the outside and almost impossible to unlock the deadbolt from the inside! The bushes outside, or were they weeds, were overgrown. There was trash and wine bottles sitting outside one of the rooms. The WiFi was almost nonexistent. The air conditioner was under the sink and you had to get down and crawl underneath to adjust the controls!!  The town itself is a haven for some real questionable characters. This place is one to avoid!

This place is very unorganized ...

Oh my goodness, I can’t believe they charge so much for such a disgusting room. 

First off for two women traveling alone with a baby, you’d think they’d put us in a better room. Nope! We were put in the room next to the office with the smoking area directly outside of our window. No part of me feels safe staying the night here. 

The room smelled worse than any barroom I’ve every been in. I was afraid to set my coat down because I didn’t want it to pick up the nasty smell of old cigarettes. They definitely let people smoke in here. 
The heater worked but was so noisy we had to keep it off to sleep but woke up freezing every hour and had to wake the room by running it for five minutes just to get the chill outta the air.  
The bathroom counters are upgraded to look nice, same with some of the tile in the shower. But there’s no shower head!? Wtf??
Not to mention the GIANT spider that was waiting for us in the bathtub. Nope not gonna shower in there..
The bedding was clean but I was so freaked out by this time I used my own blanket and slept in my clothes with my shoes on. 

I usually get up and walk in the early morning but truly did not feel safe outside of our locked room. Scary place. 

What an uncomfortable experience! 
Will never come back here!

The inn has a welcoming and peaceful vibe. We stayed upstairs in a room w two big comfortable beds. The room was very clean and well appointed and the staff was very friendly. I enjoyed especially the conversation w the innkeeper. He was very nice and had been taking care of his hotel a long time and the detail and beauty in the building shows. I look forward to my next drive through Garberville again!

Great stay while visiting the Avenue of the Giants!

This place is gross. I regret looking up reviews right after my boyfriend went to the office to book. We were on a long road trip and just needed a place to crash for the night. The duvet cover was stained, the room wasn't clean, and I even found a hair in my towel. The shower curtain liner was covered with mildew on the bottom. Avoid at all costs.

By far the worst motel I've ever stayed at

Traveling to Garberville is like taking a step into the past, and that is the ase as well with Humboldt Redwoods Inn. The rooms don't have the modern, soulless style of the chain motels; instead, they have a sweet charm with some hand-chosen decor. We especially appreciated the very comfortable beds and the fridge, and the in-room coffee was quite good too. While the pool is no longer available to guests (ADA issue, I was told), one can sit outdoors and enjoy the greenery. We also liked being close to town while not IN town. The owner gave us some good ideas of what to do and where to eat, and I highly recommend biking through the Avenue of the Giants as well as Humboldt Redwoods Motel. 

Back in time in the gorgeous redwoods!

Not having come this way in quite a while, I was pleased to find this mom and pop motel still in business. Though nothing fancy, it has tasteful artwork on the wall and a comfortable clean bed. The manager offers a lot of information about the area—a great resource.

Modest, cute and quiet motel

This Place is reminiscent of old Americana. Location is as good as it gets to see the Redwoods. Needs some updating, but is charming in its own right. The owner is amazing. I left my IPad in the room accidentally, and he took the time to find my number and contact me to let me know he had found it. Then he delivered it to some where so that it could be mailed back to me. I am so great full to this Inn because I have my life on that thing, and now I have it back.

Good Value

Made the reservation online and paid for the room before seeing it. The Motel seems to have been built in the 40's or 50's and may have been updated about 1975 judging from the decor. The rim around the toilet bowl was filthy (black marks/dirt). The Mattress was comfortable and sheets appeared clean. We slept well after I killed the flies and mosquito. We returned after a full day away and our room had not been made up. The manager explained he had been gone to pick up his daughter and all of the help was new. They did try to make it right by bringing us fresh towels and offering to make the bed.  If you read they have wifi or internet access DON'T BELIEVE IT. It was intermittent and weak at best. In fairness the whole town seems to have become very distressed since our last visit to the area and this "Inn" seems to be part of the slide. The pool was not clean and there were no chairs around it. And for all of this... we paid more than we think is right.
