Wonderful boutique hotel. We are local and just wanted a night out. Birchwood Inn is in a great location for walking to local small shops and restaurants. The pier is also fun to walk out and just watch for dolphins. You also get 20% off entrées if you eat at the hotel restaurant

The Inn is full of History.  The guest rooms were clean and comfortable!  The food was delish and the staff was so accommodating.  I would highly recommend it and hope to stay there again!  Matt and Amy were terrific hosts.  We were lucky to be able to see the Orioles in the front yard!

A great B and B!

Six of us had a rollicking good time at Sunday brunch.  It was crowded so we were glad we made reservations in advance.  The waitresses both obviously enjoyed working there, and they told us stories about the lady ghost.    We even got the owner, Matthew to tell us about the murals by the artist, inventor, Rufus Porter,   A memorable visit to a charming early American Inn, in rural Temple, NH.

My husband and I stayed at the Birchwood Inn for one night to get away. The Inn was beautiful and our room was extremely comfortable. We had the suite with king bed at the front of the Inn and it was great.  We also had dinner and brunch in the dining room and both were fantastic.  We will definitely be back in nicer weather to hike and relax!

Wonderful night away

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay in our ground floor suite. It's charming, quiet, safe and very easy to access. The hosts were just terrific and the breakfast were well done and quite tasty, cooked upon demand. We did not have dinner here but their reputation in the area is stellar and reservations seem to be a must. A definite "YES" as an inviting place to stay.

Warm, feriendly, charming

We happened on the Birchwood in 2011 and loved it so much we had to return. It took 7 years but we finally got back and it was just as perfect as we remembered. We stayed in the Brighton Suite (again). It was clean and so well decorated. With lots of space, the kitchen area (with microwave and half fridge) and separate entrance, it feels so homey. Nick and Andrew are great hosts and we felt totally welcome. Breakfast was made fresh and delicious. We also had dinner in the tavern, which was truly great English food - the bread pudding was out of this world. The location is also great with lots of hiking, beautiful drives, and quaint towns in every direction. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

Just as perfect as we remembered

I have dined numerous times at the London Tavern which is part of the Birchwood Inn. The food is made to order and is very, very good! The only thing better than the food is the Owner's and their staff.

Food and drink are great, staff is outstanding!

Really charming place to stay.  Genuinely friendly staff and owners, gave just the right amount of attention.  Good senses of humor.  Locals were welcoming.  Room was really comfortable and the food was great!

I stopped by the Birchwood Inn today with my family. I had lived in the Inn for about 6 weeks in the early 80s and then was a frequent guest at the restaurant for several years. The former owners, Bill and Judy, were the among the best people I have ever known and I continued to urge friends and colleagues to stay at the Inn long after they sold it and moved back to New Jersey. The Temple community was wonderful as were the people in Peterborough where I lived for several years.

So today I was in New Hampshire for the first time in many, many years. My daughter is graduating from SNHU and we arrived a day early so that I could show her the Peterborough, Temple and Birchwood Inn that I had so often spoken about. We timed our visit for 4:30 when they opened for dinner so that we could take a quick peek at everything and leave before they began to be busy for dinner. But when we entered and found the owner to say why we were there and what we wanted to do, we had one of the most unpleasant encounters I can remember from anywhere. He snarled that they were busy, couldn't be bothered, and had everything ready for dinner so it couldn't be disturbed. When I said I just wanted to see the Rufus Porter murals in the dining room, he said that the room was being prepared for dinner and then finally curtly barked that I could if I was quick.

We were very quick - less than 2 minutes. No one was in the dining room when we peeked in at the murals. No customers were in the place at all. No one was waiting at the door to get in. Of the 2 human beings we saw, one was the rude man wiping down the bar and the other was standing near him doing nothing.

I have read the good reviews for the place over the years and was so delighted that Bill and Judy found such great innkeepers to take over the Birchwood which had a special place in my heart. Perhaps the man who was so rude just had a bay day or week or month. But I went away thinking how different this experience was from all of those previously that made me love the place so much. I guess I should simply say "Too bad, so sad" and forget it.

Huge disappointment

This place is horrible. The television didn't work, and they didn't provide breakfast everyday. They did not remove dirty coffee cups and I had to ask for more coffee when they did not replenish it. I dropped my glasses on the floor next to the bed to discover hair clips and other belongings to prior renters. It was obvious they never vacuumed under the bed. The toiled was in a former closet and the shower floor bent under my step. The carpet going upstairs was worn out a filthy. Maybe this place will be good someday. But, not now. And at the price, take a pass
