This property is AWFUL!  Paid $60 additional fee for AC for the downstairs.  Temperature in unit reached 86 degrees each afternoon.  We were unable to occupy the unit during the daytime.  Reporting this situation to office resulted in no response from clerk and no remedial action.  Unit was very difficult to access from nearest available parking area for couple with mobility issues.  A local resident couldn't believe we were staying there; she said she had vacationed there herself and never would again

UNIT SO VERY HOT!!!

Unit 28. I will start with the bad first.  We had flying roaches in our unit each night.  Medium to big in size.  We had sugar ant invasion and a lizard leaving droppings. 
We spoke to staff on 2 occasions and they pretty much said that's how it is due to the time of year and area we are in, however after speaking with other guests while in the pool area, it was clear that this is not the case as they didn't have any roaches. Staff said they would send someone over to check.  We didn't see anyone come over. We used roach and aint spray that was under cabinet. 

It was uncomfortable to sleep due to this concern. We also had something making a tapping noise. It sounded kind of like bird or something, we never saw it but we heard it daily.  The coach was small and uncomfortable.

The good. Staff was nice.    Beautiful view of the ocean from our patio. Nice patio furniture.  Grounds clean and maintained. Everything we needed in the kitchen was there.  The water was hot.  The room unit was nice overall.  The hot tub and pool area was nice.  We used a grill to make burgers. 

The black beach was a nice little 5 min walk. 

Location was great.  Went to volcano national park... 30 mins. Green sands Beach... 40 mins plus a long 3 mile hike. It was rough but worth it. South point was 3 mins from green sands.  Coffee farm on S. Point rd on the way to green sands.  
Hilo 1 hr. 
Coffee and pastry shop in Neehala... 10 min drive

Take the good with the bad

Great location for getting away from it all. Long drive to Hilo or Kailua Kona where the "action is" but if you want to hang around the pool and take a short walk to the Black sand beach with seat turtles this place is for you. Real quiet at night for a restful sleep after it cools down from the heat of the day. Air conditioning is optional at $10 per day but if you are out at the pool you do not need that extra service.

Remote location on the Big Island of Hawaii

My family really enjoyed the seclusion of the resort. There is a black sand beach 5 minutes from the resort. The unit was spacious enough for 4. We had a 1 bedroom unit with a queen sofa sleeper. The kitchen had everything we needed and there were barbecues on the grounds. The resort is about an hour and half away from Kona International, so I would recommend picking up groceries before heading to the resort. There are a couple of small grocery stores nearby. Overall our stay was fantastic.

Family Vacation

Sea Mountain Resort must NOT be overlooked, if you are wanting all the lovely natures of Hawaii but without all the tourism. Hubby and I in our 60's and have been coming to the Hawaiian Islands since 2015. We usually stay in Kona but we decided to try a few nights at Sea Mountain Resort. Wowzer!!! We were absolutely and pleasantly surprised! The drive from Kona was beautiful then the resort itself was absolutely gorgeous. Nearly spotless. The grounds are well maintained, the room was spotless and comfortable but the view from our private Lanai was the best part. We could see the pool area, the grounds but also the ocean. We had a variety of birds come visit. The staff were top notch! The popular Black Sands Beach is a short walks distance. There, we saw Sea Turtles and nature at it's finest. We were so pleased with our short visit that this year (2023) we have decided to spend 8 nights here and only 1 night in Kona! Our suggestion, stop at Walmart or the like and buy up your foods/drinks for your stay as it is a bit of a drive to a big market, although there is a small market about 30 to 35 mins away. This resort provided the tranquility we so much needed. We met wonderful people both at the resort but also at Black Sands Beach. This will be one of our mainstays when we visit The Big Island. 

If you want beauty but tranquility, don't pass up Sea Mountain Resort!!!

Have stayed at Sea Mountain several times over the last 20 years, and they’ve done an excellent job of maintaining and updating the grounds and facilities.  About 1/3 of the residents there are permanent, and Sea Mountain works hard to maintain a positive experience between residents and guests.

Very quiet and well cared for, relaxing!

We are new to VI and wanted to try this property!  We were placed in Room 19. Great room! 
Pros:
*Spacious room. We had a one bedroom. Bedroom upon entry. Living space and kitchen are up a few stairs.
*Paid $10 per night to rent portable a/c. Worked ok. Bedroom was cool(er). Main floor was warmer...esp after cooking. Might be pretty warm in the summer months.
*Kitchen was clean! Everything worked well. Did some light cooking.
*Good washer/dryer in bathroom. Bring your own laundry soap.
*Pool was clean (except for one kid who seemed to be spitting)
*Hot tub was hot! Loved it! Great to relax and see ocean view.
*Nice covered patio for relaxing with clean furniture. We could see ocean from our suite.
*Parking was directly in front of room. Easy to unload bags and groceries.
*Friendly staff. 
*Front office sells a few items. E.g.. can of coke for $2, laundry pod for $1. Can bill to your room.
*SO quiet. (Some noisy birds, though, at 5am! Haha!)
*Bit far from 'civilization'.
*Walking distance to Black Sand Beach.
*Had broom and vacuum cleaner--loved it!
*Other guests were friendly...and quiet at night!

Cons:
*Bit far from 'civilization'. 
*Asked for extra blanket. Don't have extra items readily available for use. (We did end up with a blanket, but getting more 'stuff' is not as easy as a regular hotel.)
*Central a/c would have been nice! ;)

Overall, for a few nights, we will be back in the future! 

Remote and Relaxing Visit!

We got our one bedroom condo through VI. My only real complaint is that the patio and sliding glass doors opened on to the parking lot- not exactly a lovely view. But the condo was well equipped, the bed comfortable, and the the hot tub properly hot, with a nice view too. There are not a lot of options to eat or shop very close, but that's not so bad. It was super quiet with virtually no road noise. We would definitely stay again.

Nice and quiet

Booking was very easy. You can pre-check in 24 hours before so check in was very fast. The bed room and the bathroom were roomy and comfortable. The living, dinning room & kitchen was big enough for the two of us to be 
fine. I did do some light cooking. We would return ~

Comfortable place ~

Sea Mountain is located in a secluded spot right next to Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. The views are breathtaking and the resort is beautiful and accommodating in every way possible. The staff are friendly and willing to help if necessary. Sea Mountain is located away from the Big Island's major cities and allow you to have an off the beaten path vacation experience.
