We had a great stay. The decor is a very fun idea and the location is great. The prices were reasonable and the staff was really nice. We will definitely stay there again. Families, couples, it was a nice crowd when we were there. Good-sized rooms & clean.

Great location, welcoming staff, fun decor, affordable

Just stayed at the Tarheel hotel and loved it. The room decor was updated and beachy. The staff was very nice and helpful. Perfect location. Across the street from the public beach access. Can walk or ride bikes to many restaurants. I would highly recommend if you are looking for more of a local flavor and not a large hotel.

Wonderful Motel

I’ve seen some reviews that made me skeptical before booking but I took a chance for our anniversary and I’m so glad I did! I remember staying here when I was kid and it was so old and outdated. However they have completely remodeled and updated everything and it looks great! The room was very clean with beach access right across the street! The shower stayed hot the whole time and the check in/check out process was super simple. We def plan to come back with our children and Dog next year! The price was perfect and we saw tons of families with kiddos enjoying their time! The pool wasn’t open yet but it was a decent size. The dunes restaurant next to the motel was amazing and our favorite part was that everything is within walking distance. (Ice cream, 7/11, restaurants) My husband and I enjoyed walking the beach and the view from both piers that are in walking distance from the motel. The only thing that was a little frustrating with our truck was the parking (small lot/side room parking) but luckily we were able to park and walk where we wanted to go within a good distance. All in all we had a wonderful little romantic getaway. We definitely recommend staying here!

Perfect motel for a couples getaway

We found this little gem at the last minute,  trying to find a pet friendly room  on Thanksgiving weekend. So glad we did. Room was clean, had a cool vibe and close to everything. Price was right, and we even had a little issue with our water, and they went above and beyond to make everything perfect. If you plan to spend your time at the Outer banks in your room, this might not be the place, but if you want a wonderful base camp, you will love it! Nice grilling area and little pool also.

Nice, Clean, Convenient, Pet Friendly

We had a great stay. The room was clean, the pool was nice, the walk to the beach was super quick and easy, it was quiet at night, and I had no issues whatsoever. It’s also dog friendly, but everyone diligently picked up after their dogs, so you couldn’t even tell. 

Lovely motel

Took a mini vacation with my mom and had a great time!! Room was wonderful and clean. Nice pool area with a short walk to the beach. Easy check in and check out!! I will definitely be returning very soon.

Wonderful Stay!!

So I will do my best. 1st. The Tar Heel IS pet friendly now. This was our second year in a row staying here, we were going to stay before going to our rental in Corova but Dorian changed that plan. So we booked it after our week up north as I wanted a new tattoo over in Manns Harbor. As the previous year, our visit was great! I know part of our love for this place is the fact that you are kinda on your own, if you need constant attention and your hand held to get through the night it may not be for you. They do have someone there most of the day, but it's more of a place that you talk to others staying there, hang out at the pool etc. All while wearing your big boy clothes. Now that being said, if you have a problem with your room, you will get attention.

 Other things you will get include, a great very clean room with a stiff bed, you will get a bit bigger bathroom if you get a room with the two queen beds, you will get to be within walking distance of anything you want. You get a great little pool that was very clean,you get grills to use if you want, you get a place where you can walk the streets or beach at midnight and not worry about anything,you get a microwave and toaster oven, fridge and even a damn Keurig! Oh, you will get to park right outside your door, and if your car/truck is your baby as my FJ is, you'll really like not having it crammed into a spot that you can't see from your room.

Any contact that we have had including the outstanding housekeepers has been awesome. Call them and make a reservation, you'll get a very nice person that is local to the area, oh yeah, I asked her.

So you know why I'm just writing a review now, I just booked three nights in Oct.2020. Seafood festival this year! So yeah, i had a little time to write.

Looks like Trip Advisor needs a update.

rooms just as pictured on website   clean, fresh, and beachy   good location, right across from beach and shopping, restaurants close by   traveling by motorcycle so appreciated parking right in front of room   reasonable   you will not be disappointed!

overnight in outer banks

At a last minute need, who also takes dogs, this motel served our family's needs well.  VERY clean and updated, a short walk across the street and over the dunes to the ocean.  Close to restaurants and most other needs.  Clean pool, bbq area....worth the trip down the island.

Cleanest Motel I've seen!

I like this little mom-n-pop place, which is located within a very short walk from the beach. Nothing fancy to be sure, but clean. The bathrooms are tee-tiny, with barely room to turn around. The AC works well, and the microwave and toaster oven come in handy. The bed is comfy enough.

The four-dot rating is based on location, value for price paid, and dog-friendliness.

One issue: There are cockle-spurs all over the dog relief area in the back. These obnoxious little suckers stick to your shoes, end up back in your room, and are painful to deal with. Please, please Tar Heel, get rid of these.
