Great location near the interstate. Convenient to restaurants and shops. Very pleasant front desk clerk who appreciated family and what it meant to us. The gentleman went out of his way to make it a great stay. A very comfortable hotel I would be happy to stay at again

Great for families!!

Any worthwhile review needs a little context. I have stayed at this Motel 6 for five night so far, and it is not what I am typically used to. I've stayed at Radissons, The W, DoubleTrees, Hiltons, etc. all my life. Hotels with waterfalls behind the clerks, and the scent of fresh baked chocolate-chip cookies in the perfectly conditioned lobby air. Neat and stylish clerks entering my data with their slender fingers and sporty kerchiefs, before sending me upstairs with an ooey-gooey baked delight. I wear suits and drive a nice car... at least I did. But life is funny, and circumstances change. And this formerly ignored establishment, this Motel 6 of New Cumberland, PA, is seen as a not-so-bad-place at all.

Let there be no confusion about what this place is. It's an inexpensive place to stay and sleep. With few exceptions (which I will cover), every expense has been spared. Every. With that in mind let us tour, then, this Motel 6.

M6 is tucked away just off the I-83 exit, which I find wonderfully convenient. Close to Barnes & Nobles, Staples, supermarkets, the mall, and the Harrisburg downtown. There's mild quaintness as you drive into the parking lot. The small pool seems an afterthought, its fenced perimeter occupying what might have been parking spots in some past time. Afterthought or not, there's always activity there. 

I typically arrive after work and enter the small, and usually empty, lobby. A clerk always appears within seconds. No pomp or pretense, no fashion or excessive good looks (those things are expenses and all expenses have been spared). Still, the clerks are always on the pleasant side of their mood. (Note: I do believe that you get what you put out, and I try to put out positive vibes. I don't know how these clerks would respond to a negative introduction, and other than by witnessing it as a third-party, I'll likely never will.) No fancy outfits, or scripted courtesy. A straight forward driver's license and credit card exchange get's you the thinly wrapped keycard, a room number scribed on it with whatever tool was handy at the time.

All of my rooms have been on the second and third floors. Upon entering (at least in August), a cold air strikes hard. The efficient air conditioning units are one exception to the spared expenses, and seem to be always on and always at full blast. I turn the unit to low cool and set my stuff down.  The rooms are clean and simply laid out. Bed, 3' square table, two wooden chairs (no table or second chair in rooms with two beds), a single dresser/desk/tv stand unit that also serves as a countertop, two garbage pales lined with ultra-thin bags, two mirrors (neither full-length), six theft-proof hangers (two have clips for holding slacks or dresses... or socks if that's your thing), four plastic-wrapped plastic cups, and an ice bin, two extra small slivers of soap, a suitcase stand, a bottle opener attached to the sink, two washcloths (his/hers?), three towels (1 his/2 hers?), and three hand towels (one to serve as a bath mat), a telephone that I'd hate to think was white when it was new, and a window for when you're done looking at everything inside the room. 

The floors are done in some veneer wood finish, with only a small patch of low-pile carpeting at the door. I believe all the rooms have been the same color, white with an orange wall on the headboard side of the room.  The fake wood flooring contines into the small bathroom which is fitted with a shower stall (I've seen glass-enclosed and curtain-enclosed stalls), and a toilet with an extra roll of toilet paper on the tank. Speaking of the shower, the water gets hotter than I can take (expense), but runs rather limp (expense spared).

The bed is not dressed in anything plush, but it is well made--sharply and with signs of precision. You'll climb under a sheet, a thin... I'll call it a blanket, but it's more like that thin thing granny wraps herself in when she's sitting in her favorite chair, and then a decorative outter layer that matches the color of the phone, but I'm sure it's not dinge. It seems warm enough for me even when wearing light sleep gear, and I sleep like a baby on milk in these beds. Your mileage my vary.

The rooms do carry a smell, but I can't hold this against the establishment no more than I could hold against it the fact that I had cigarette ashes on the top of my car one morning. I hate to sound judgemental, but there is just different pages of acceptable behavior, and not everyone is on the same page. I've already seen here, people who have non-smoking rooms and who stand right outside of their ajar front door and smoke. They flick their butts on the ground after a nice last drag, then go inside to exhale. This is the nature, it seems, of cheap places (if not the behavior itself, then the volume of the behvior) and to me it is the only real downside to this place. 

Also, you'll have to bring your own iron and ironing board or you'll be requesting and using the communal items from the clerk, and they are not always available, and the ironing board looks like it could use a little support, what with those bent legs and all.

So, is it The W? Hilton? No. It's Motel 6. It's a room and shower and a good nights sleep. It's cheap, and so it must attract people of a sort who in my experience tend to be, let's say, less concerned about what I feel is acceptable. That's life, and i'm not mad, but it does make non-smoking rooms smell a bit like cigarettes.

It's Good For What It Is

Very dated looking Motel 6. Building has obviously not seen a renovation in many years.  And it shows.

Very convieniant to the highway, however when we first pulled in wondered if we had made a mistake ...

Man at the window was pleasant and informative , the swimming pool probably has not been used in years, and it shows.

Our room was on the 3rd floor , and there is only 1 hot elevator in the middle of the building.  

For what we paid the room was ok, and were only there for a place to sleep, so ok with low thrills.

Room was clean (except for the deceased roach on the tv stand) , the beds were comfy despite the well stained bed linens that need replaced, and there was no refrigerator or hair dryer.

No room service, but thats a covid thing I think, you had to take your towels or whatever needed attention to the walk up window and they would replace them.

But again, for what we paid , it wasn't bad.

Not Awesome, Not terrible.

Accommodations are good and consistent. Location is ideal; easy access to I83. Free Parking a plus. Easy access to local restaurants. 

Angela and Midge were both very helpful during my stay. Only drawback is having to pay for a fridge and microwave.

Good Location

We were able to get this motel room at a decent price but after our experience, I think we overpaid. The front staff were friendly and accommodating which is why I decided to give this places 2/5. We had a pretty standard room with two beds with a good AC which can't be said for some of the other rooms whose AC was leaking. The bed felt like you were sleeping on springs, the shower had low water pressure, and the sink was practically on the floor.  The hangers in our room were rusty and the floor of the shower was stained. The room was fairly spacious for three people with suitcases. BUT we found a roach crawling on the table next to the TV. We killed it since it was late at night and the hotel was already short-staffed. Since we were leaving the next day we just decided to move on.

Good Staff and thats about it

I have attempted to stay here a few times since my last visit that was really good. The first time I moved to 3 different rooms before it was clean and had the refrigerator & microwave in the room I paid for. The room was okay, nothing fancy, bed was comfortable. I kept hearing people in other rooms or people outside. Someone set their car alarm off around midnight which woke me up which is no fault of the hotel, just inconsiderate people. I checked out early in the morning after only a few hours of sleep. A couple weeks later I tried again to stay here, They put me on the third floor after I had requested a handicapped room, so I made my way to the elevator and up the 3rd floor, I had some creepy guy following me and this freaked me out some. I get to the room and the room is cold and dirty. Needless to say I packed all my stuff back up and checked out asking for a refund this time. I will not return to this hotel, The staff is friendly but the grounds and rooms for being more updated need lots of work. Lots of shady people around and this bothered me. I want to feel safe when I travel.

Place has went downhill

The only thing that made this review so low is that the tub wasn't cleaned well at all because of a stopped up drain. I had to clean it myself.  I get to do that at home and shouldn't be expected to do it in a motel.  Overall, it was not a fancy place but the majority of it was clean and serviceable.  We all slept well in the comfortable beds and were able to hop right onto the highway to continue on our journey.

Adequate for an overnight; close to major hwy

Don’t stay here. It is an absolute dump. We needed a place to sleep and leave the next morning.  I’m hoping we make it out without getting some unknown type of communicable disease. Comforter was stained. Shower was dirty. Only two pancake thick pillows. The bed was awful and there was hair all through it. Took almost an hour for the room to warm up, but when we found the hair in the “clean” bed we decided to check out and drive through the night.

Keep On Looking

I have never been so disappointed and disgusted in a hotel in my life! We wouldn't have stayed if our reservations weren't paid for in advance, never have I had to clean a room before I could use it! The staff actually gave me clothes and cleaning supplies! Don't stay there save your money. I had to use tissues/baggies to even push elevator buttons! And elevator smelt like piss! And was never cleaned at all!!!!! Not to mention small room size, we had two dou left beds and one was tight to the bathroom wall, and other was up touching air conditioner. We were told move the nightstand to make room. Also fridge and microwave were right at door way. Door wasn't sealed proper so bugs could get in. I even went to Walmart and bought a bath mat and towels as we felt theirs weren't cleaned properly!

Filthy! Disappointed

Went to the Hershey Auto show this week, all rooms in the area except for this one, 1st warning sign, Hershey would not allow me to stay on the grounds and sleep in my truck, so I had to find a Hotel. this was the only one available. upon entering my room, I had to use the bathroom, during this time I had observed an insect crawling across the floor, which caused me to investigate the room more closely. checking in every Draw, there were bed bugs and I guess you can call it .... I dont know what  to call it, just lots of dirt, if it was bug waste, Bug carcus, left behind by spiders. But there were some live ones around, Photos were taken, so now with no where else to go, and originally wanting to sleep in my truck, I decided to take a shower, and head out to the parking lot and sleep in my truck, still having my room in case I needed to use the bathroom. Upon entering the shower, there was mildew on the shower curtain, the mirrors have not been cleaned in a long time, dust on the furniture, I have to wonder if the sheets were ever changed, I turned the heat up in the room, to find it made the room smell worse then it already did. Oh yea, I tried to catch the weather, on the TV for tomorrows forecast, I was unable to find the remote, None around, so I turned the TV on manually, to find there was no TV reception at all, just white noise. The next morning, I went down to get my Free Breakfast, Positive thinking..... Lets just say when it was finally time to get some breakfast I had walked out. stuff was not clean, and a bunch of men came down to breakfast, who did not look like hotel guest, But people who actually lived in the hotel and were grabbing breakfast before they left for work. which would explain, the BBQ and kids toys laying around the property. for the price I did not expect much, But I did expect a clean bed to sleep in without taking any bed bugs home with me, which I did not because I slept in my truck. the people who are hired to clean these rooms should be fired, how hard is it to get some windex and clean a mirror, at least vacuum the dirt out of each draw, and Dust the furniture. Now this establishment is run down due to hiring lazy ass people, who I have a feeling live there too. The best part was I had a nice safe place to park my truck and sleep, on my truck. I guess you can blame the management also, because when I check in at a Radison, the most annoying part is you can not check into your room till a Manager check the room out first. There are hotel management magazines in the lobby, read them. I have more to say, But I am also trying to be polite. Motel 6 no more.
