Front desk was great help upon check in that turned into a smooth process. Also with everything we needed. Room was clean and orderly. Staff very professional with great customer service. Although the breakfast left something to be desired.

Let's start by saying it's a 2 star hotel.  It's a 2 story, with no elevator.  It is dated, but clean and tidy.  The outside could use a little more attention.  But our suite is huge.  We are here long term and you just don't find this kind of room normally for less than $160 a night.  In Carlsbad, if you can find it, this sized room would be $220, plus.  But we called for long term stay and talked to the nicest manager, who has been with the property for many years.  In fact, all the staff are super nice.  They bend over backwards to make our stay extra special.  We are paying very much less than the norm here and it's very much worth it to us for a room that is around 500 sq. ft.  The bed is super comfy for us and we have slept great.  This place fit our needs and we know well what that is, since we have lived in hotels for work 13 straight months.  Breakfast is not hot, but a good assortment of the continental.  Mostly, the hotel seems to have been built very well, just past it's prime.    We will stay here every time we are in town, just because we have had a pleasant experience here.  The hotel is across from the medical center, with a cool little park behind by what is called the flume.  The Living Desert zoo is about a quarter mile down the road and it's within walking distance to shopping.  It's relatively quiet, since it's on the edge of town to the north, which we like.  It lacks the oilfield rudeness and energy you find in most every other part of town.  

If nice were currency, this place would be Gold.

This is a great place for a quick stay! We basically needed a bed and shower between national park visit days. This is perfect location! The lobby is welcoming with a fireplace and oversized couches and chairs. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We asked for dinner ideas, and were not disappointed! Plus, there is a breakfast that includes waffles, various breads with toppings, yogurts, cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juices.
The place looked recently updated and is kept very clean. We highly recommend it. A bonus is the medical center across the street, with a helicopter that we were able to watch land! Bonus when your son attends aviation high school! 

Excellent choice for a quick overnight 

Staff were so very friendly. Rooms were clean and smelled great. And the price was so much cheaper than others we’ve stayed at that were awful. Continental breakfast wasn’t great but did have waffles. Pretty much had the place to ourselves because oil workers were gone. Would certainly recommend but either call the hotel or just show up because Booking charged $10 more than the hotel.

Excellent hotel for the price

When we drove up I thought "what am I in for?". The outside of the property is very old and run down. Despite the 90's decor, the inside was very nice. The room was very large and included a small fridge and microwave. The breakfast was decent. The staff was very helpful (dinner recommendations). It has a large parking lot it you are in a camper. If stay here again. 

Much better than it looks!

The oil boom in the Permian Basin has had a major effect in the city of Carlsbad New Mexico. Carlsbad's population of 29,000 people has exploded to around  150,000 people.  Oil companies have bought up a lot of the hotels on a long term basis to house their workers. The result is that the rooms available to the general public are quite limited and very over priced.  
There were a lot of oil workers staying at this hotel. They weren't a problem! I assume they work very hard and are dead tired when they get back to the hotel.   Noise certainly wasn't an issue at this hotel.
The US travelers Inn is an average to below average hotel.  The room decor and lighting was dated and worn.  We paid about twice what this hotel should have cost due to the limited supply of rooms available in the area.  I'm glad we were only here one night.
The breakfast that was provided in the morning was one of the worst I've ever had in a hotel.

I'm always shocked at the price of lodging in Carlsbad--the oil boom hasn't ended at Carlsbad motels.  This was a decent place, but fairly average.  I gave it 4 stars instead of 3 because while it wasn't cheap, it was cheaper than most of the other places in town.

Average motel

We spent two nights here while visiting Carlsbad Caverns. This hotel is on the far end of town from Carlsbad Caverns, so it is about a 40 minute drive from the Caverns. Compared to the prices of the other hotels in town the days we were there, this hotel was a great value. The staff was very nice. The hotel had an inviting lobby. The breakfast room was small, but we virtually had it to ourselves both mornings. Breakfast options were make your own waffles; assorted cereals, pastries and breads; yogurt, fruit, and chilled boiled eggs. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was older, but everything was functional and there was lots of hot water. A/C unit worked well, though was a little noisy. There was a microwave and fridge in the room. While in town, we had ice cream at Kaleidocoops (recommend) and dinners at both Trinity (Italian, steak and seafood, great wine list, great service) and Yellow Brix (nice outdoor patio, friendly staff) - all of which were not far from the hotel on the same street.

Great value for Carlsbad

My daughter and I wound up having an unplanned overnight stay in Carlsbad. We had car trouble and couldn't make it to our planned destination. Around 8:30 p.m. we spotted the U.S. Travelers Inn and because the edifice is so pleasant looking, we decided to try it. We were so tired and upset that perhaps any place would have done, but good luck sent us to this place 
We were greeted by a lovely clerk named Gail who quickly understood our dilemma. She said apologetically that she had only one room left and it was for the handicapped. It didn't matter to us so she explained about the light switches being lower than regular ones and a few other things that are different about rooms for handicapped.
She was so nice and cheerful that we began to feel better even before we got to the room. The room was a great surprise because it was large and comfortable with everything we needed. The beds were great, as were the pillows (which are often terrible) and we got a good night's sleep. 
The breakfast next morning was very tasty and even the coffee in the room was good. It was a fine experience which made the rest of our long journey much easier.

Yet another surprise

Average hotel, but for the cost verses other hotels in the area it was GOOD! Some renovations have been done to the bathroom and furniture. Fridge and microwave in the room, fair breakfast items, and staff was friendly.
