Absolute best place you could possibly stay in New Orleans! Great location, great facilities, and absolute top-notch staff! Nick, Nadia, Nicole, all of them were just the definition of hospitality! I'll definitely be stopping here again the next time I come down to the Big Easy!

Best Location and Staff

Shoutout to Nick, Nicole and all the other great staff and people at the IHSP! Made the stay even better, and probably won't be the last time there! Whether you want to hangout and grab a beer with them or you're just looking for advice for the city, they're very helpful.

Had a blast at the IHSP

Stayed two Nights in this hostel for Mardi Gras. It’s a great place, a good vibe and helpful staff. Right in the heart of the French Quarter.  Nick and Alexandra were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely come and stay again.

Great visit

Ideal if you want to be close to the French quarter. The included breakfast is cool, usually some pancake batter is made so you can cook some when you're up & I also noticed there was instant grits available as an alternative.
Bed was comfy & room was spacious. Just got uncomfortably hot at night with heating set too high so it was hard to sleep.
There's a small, independent convenience store just a block away which is handy as well. 
As it is so well located to hot spots for drinking prepare for late-night arrivals of drunk guests.

Handy location, clean, good facilities & nice breakfasts

I had a better time than I imagined i would. Clean, well kept, and original this place blew my expectations out of the water. The staff was excellent helpful and friendly. Shout out to Nick for making my stay! I was there a day early waiting for my friends to get in, and probably would've just had a quiet night in, but he took me out to the parade and ensured i had a great night.

Stayed here around voodoo fest and I couldn’t of been happier! The location is perfect, the staff is awesome! Nick was super nice and so helpful! Even all the guest were so nice l I will definitely be staying here again!

Great hostel great staff!

I had the privilege of staying at both of their properties, in the French Quarter as well as Mid City. Having had this fairly unique privilege, allow me to provide this comparison below:

IHSP French Quarter House:
Located in a charming property down the street from the authentic Voodoo Museum in the heart of the French Quarter, staying here during Halloween / Voodoo Fest made my trip extra special because I ran into a lot of the festivities I would have missed staying elsewhere.

Besides, the community atmosphere of this place coupled with all the great guests and staff to provide me with the best Halloween I've gotten to experience as an adult. The breakfast was good, value was great, the owners are really cool too! Be sure to make friends with Nick & Nicole before you leave! 

The one downside I have to say is that this place can get a bit rambunctious in the evenings (at least on Halloween!) so if you prefer a quiet hostel without much community interaction they actually have another property I'm describing below.

Jazz House:
Located in Mid City, steps from the Canal Streetcar Station, this location is prime for exploring everything outside the quarter from Magazine Street & Tulane to City Park and the Bayou. 

A much quieter sister property of IHSP, the Jazz House is a no-frills hostel with everything you need from the living room with a big screen and gaming to clean bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. Still one of the best values in town, there's a good mix of people here as well and I got to meet some interesting folks from around the world but it's not like a party hostel or anything.

In fact, if that's what you're looking for, but you still want to be productive, I'd recommend spacing out your trip between both hostels if you're brave enough. I did this and while I was tired after the 10th day I have to say I would not change a thing.

My experience at both properties!

I book at IHSP French Quarter House for two main reasons : 
1- to be in the French Quarter and be able to travel by foot
2- for easily meeting new people

I was very satisfied on these 2 aspects. Firstly, being able to get around easily, without worrying about public transport schedules, or the cost of a taxi, is a BIG advantage (Bourbon Street is less than 10 minutes walk). Secondly, the IHSP staff is very welcoming, they go to great lengths to connect people (thanks Nicole and Nick!). The backyard was a nice place for hanging out, and the New Year Eve party, in particular, was GREAT.

About the other points, I was in a dorm. So a lot of night owls, and a lot of early birds (nothing to surprise me), but with earplugs it was ok. The shared bathroom was cleaned every day

The breakfast on the spot was nice too, no need to go out early to get food.

To conclude, I highly recommend IHSP French Quarter House

Great spot!

Amazing experience, hostel was clean and homely 
Nicole and Nick did a wonderful job of making this first time solo traveling Aussie feel right at home. I’ll be staying here again my next trip in May. Perfect location and lots of fun at the hostel it’s self. 

Loved it 

IHSP French Quarter is located at the perfect spot for an ideal French Quarter stay. I can’t recommend the place enough. The scene at IHSP is perfect for getting know people from around the world who are willing to be friends and explore the city with you. No joke, it was my best hostel experience I’ve ever had, and I think that if I stayed there again it would be the same. 
I especially would like to thank Nicholas Trever for his awesome customer service and insight into “things to do” in the French Quarter. He helped make our stay at IHSP easy and fun.
