I have been travelling a lot and stayed in a lot of hostels. I don‘t know where to start. The beds are uncomfortable and noisy. The windows are broken and you can hear the noise from the street incredibly loud - like you were sleeping right on the sidewalk (heavy traffic starts at 6.00h am).
The hostel receptionist was friendly but unable to do anything without the managements permission. The „managemet“ never showed up and as soon as we paid unavailable for further questions.
It was also expensive in comparison to a hotel near bourbon street.
Bad Value. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Worst Hostel Experience - Nightmare

We decided on the price of this accommodation. The parking space was also free. But it also had its advantages. The beds are crunchy, only wool blankets, hardly insulation, only wire in the entrance area, shady bathroom. Unfortunately we couldn't see the first of a total of three nights, which is why we tried to cancel them, unfortunately not within the 48h policy. Okay fair, then unfortunately we extended it by one more night, but the comfort and volume are so that we canceled the extra night on the first day. One week and five mails later the answer came in, unfortunately 3 hours later to be late for the 48h policy. Wow, zero cancellations, so 2 nights for 2 (of 4 dollars) for these people and never recommended backpacking again.

Zero capacity and zero performance

By any means this is not my first trip to New Orleans. This is my first Hostel experience however. Great location on Magazine Street in the lower Garden District. Super friendly staff, DeNorsha took the time to give me a complete tour and make me feel right at home! I also witnessed staff member Shelby personally greet and go out of her way to accommodate visitors not familiar with the area, setting up tours and full detail explainations on how to get around the area. Super clean common area, bathrooms, and bunk rooms! I’ve met some really awesome people during my stay here! The gated backyard/patio is an easy vibe hangout with a community garden as well! I highly recommend a stay here at The Atlas House! 

First hostel experience

First time at a hostel and had a great experience at The Atlas House. Will definitely stay here again if I’m visiting NOLA next time! 

Pros:
1. Location: 
- 15-20min walk to the French Quarter 
- 3 min walk to bus M11 (1 block away) that takes you to the French Quarter 
- bus M11 takes you straight back to the hostel 

2. Room
- My room was clean, I booked private and ended up with 2 bunk beds which was great because I had ample of room 
- My room had a beautiful balcony (picture attached) 
- they also have another side of the house that had private rooms which is great for couples / family 

3. Staff
- Staff were amazingly accommodating, the shower on our side did not have hot water and after notifying them the staff accommodated me by allowing me to use the bathroom on the other side of the house, my room was super cold, they immediately addressed the issue promptly, and the fan in my room wouldn’t turn off unless I turned the light off (luckily there was a bed lamp) however they immediately apologized and noted to get it fixed  

4. Environment 
- they had activities every night I was there to give their guests the opportunity to mingle, such great atmosphere! 
- provides breakfast, though I didn’t get a chance to try some 

Cons:
- no hot water (but the accommodating staff made up for it & not to be misleading, the staff mentioned they are fixing that issue so fingers crossed by the next time it will be fixed)
- the bathtub had a lot of scratches? In it so made it look a bit weary 
- you can hear almost everything around you, noise from the outside, noise downstairs, noise from the bathroom, creeks and cracks (luckily I’m a heavy sleeper, however may not recommend for light sleepers)

Overall, a great place to stay on a budget, amazing staff, great location, good vibes, and clean for the most part. 

Loved it! 

The hostel was close to town and those working there seemed friendly enough, however, it was nothing like the pictures. The room was dark and damp, there was mould on the walls in the bathroom and the tiles on the floor were caving in. At least there were free pancakes for breakfast....

Not what I was expecting

I had a pleasant stay at Atlas House, which is located in the Lower Garden District, close to the St. Charles Avenue streetcar which gets you to downtown and the French Quarter in 10/15 minutes. Very convenient, and close to lots of cool cafes and places to get food.

The house itself is lovely. A traditional New Orleans build, with the dorms in a separate building out the back. The Wifi was decent and the breakfast of pancakes very nice. The dorm beds were comfortable and lockers were provided. There is no common area but the Reception has couches, free coffee and is colourful and cute.

On the downside, the dorms felt rather cramped and there is only one bathroom with a shower for up to 12 people (there is a bathroom next to the kitchen but this only has a toilet and sink), so sometimes you had to wait a while to use it. The ceiling fans overlapped onto some top bunks which wasn't ideal, and if you were in the front of the dorm building, you were right next to an outdoor smoking porch, with the smell and noise constantly coming in.

The hostel itself had no atmosphere whatsoever when I was there, and seemed to be full of long-term residents or volunteers as opposed to actual backpackers, but I guess being in NOLA in December isn't exactly high season... You also can only open the main doors in the building using electronic numeric codes, which was quite cumbersome, especially on old worn keypads that didn't always work...

Overall I would recommend this place, but for short stays, and not for solo travellers.

Cute hostel

The rooms are convenient, the staff are nice and we feel at home. There's everything you need and it's a good quality price ratio.

Like home.

If you are accustomed to staying in a nice hotel, do not choose this place. This was a very disappointing stay. The hostel is very old, has a terrible odor in the bedroom, and does not look as if it has been maintained at all. Do not be misled by the photos. The room has two double size beds in it, but the mattresses were very old and uncomfortable. When we arrived and checked in at the hostel, the attendant took us up to our rooms. We then found that the bed linen had NOT been changed from the previous guest. There was pubic hair and crumbs on the sheets...how disgusting. The four-night stay was very uncomfortable. I barely got any sleep thinking of the disgust we were sleeping in. 
The second day of our stay, we asked one of the staff members for more bath towels and she said we had to rent extra towels. We asked for wash towels; she informed us that wash towels are hung up in the bathroom for share use among the guests.  So we’re suppose to use the same wash towels that others use to wash our bodies and faces.  Note that we paid $145 per night for the room.

Very Disappointed!

It consists of 2 parts, the main house has a reception and kitchen. There are not many rooms, so the community bathroom is also no problem. For breakfast fresh pancakes.

To Feel Well

It may have been lucky, but the atmosphere was great, we met people from day one, the staff also joined us for games or a drink in the yard. The location is very good, you can get there by walking or bus to the French Quarter or walking down Magazine Street to the Garden District (very recommended).
