Have been coming to St.Charles Guesthouse for the last 5 years. It's like coming home to family. Owner Dennis Hilton makes you feel you are staying in a Hilton Hotel.Sister Robin and brother Taylor keep the place running smoothly.Met uncle Bill this visit. Elvira keeps the rooms spotless.Great location near St Charles streetcar and many restaurants and World War 2 Museum. Can't say enough good things about this gem of a place

Mardi Gras Adventure

I've told you about the location and accommodations at St.Charles Guest House, but this time I want to just take a minute, as I suggest you do when you visit or plan your visit. I took a minute - due to a little rain - last month to enjoy the experience that is St Charles Guest House. Take a minute to talk to owner Dennis about the houses - these are houses, not just hotel rooms - about their history and challenges faced. Take a minute to talk to him about what the Warehouse District, just blocks away and now a destination itself, was when he worked there in years past. Take a minute to talk to staff about hidden gems in a great food city - the diner, the bagel shop, the nearly hidden French Quarter homestyle restaurant. Take a minute to share a recipe, a plant cutting, or a cookie. These moments are what capped another great experience at St Charles Guest House.

This hotel is on the St. Charles tram line & across from Emeril Lagasse’s famous restaurant, Delmonico’s. It’s quiet a little out of the way ( but not really) & nice. It’s not up to date & does need a little work, but the charm of the place makes up for it. There’s also a little courtyard, where you can enjoy your drink from the bar. There is a restaurant right next door with good food. 

A quiet garden

We stayed here 25 years ago, when we eloped in New Orleans. When we decided to visit New Orleans again in the run up to our anniversary, there was only one place we could stay. In 1994, we drove from Boston (slowly) in our VW camper can, and had only planned to spend our wedding night in a hotel - I can still remember calling our families from the pay phone in the hallway. Another disaster with the camper can meant our stay was extended, but Dennis, the other staff, and our fellow guests were lovely. 

What’s changed in 25 years? Not much (though the pay phone is gone). Dennis is a charming host, and helped me with a surprise for my husband. Robin and Taylor were charming and super helpful. The decor hasn’t changed (which I actually loved), the room was spotlessly clean, and we felt instantly at home. Restaurant recommendations, arranging a tour for us, and making us feel at home...can’t beat it. We will be back, and we won’t wait 25 years this time.

Love

This was the first time in five years that I've stayed a whole week and the St. Chuck is the only place to do it. What made this trip special was meeting other regular guests, some going back years - I'm a relative newcomer to this special place in the Garden District. I also got to introduce my niece to my favorite place to stay in the city. We like the convenience - two blocks to Magazine Street and one block from the St, Charles streetcar line - but quiet neighborhood and safe place to be, with area residents out walking. Owners and staff are the friendliest - and most genuinely appreciative in the Crescent City!

My husband and I stayed this past Saturday at the Guest House. As other reviewers have stated, this is not your usual hotel accommodation with TVs, Valet Parking, and so many amenities. It is clean and simple with no added frills, which is just what we needed.

The Guest House is a super homey accommodation and has a real throw back feel to the good old days where we actually had to talk to each other instead of just staring at the TV (no TV here anyway!). It is an old home, but very quaint.

My husband and I didn't spend much time in our room, as when we are in Nola we are there to eat, drink, and be merry. But, coming back to the Guest House at night, we felt safe since it is well lit. They provide each guest with a key to the front door so that only guests can access the house. Also, I was able to get free street parking right out front for our stay, which was a huge plus on a busy Mardi Gras/Concert weekend.

The staff are all very nice. Our room was clean, and the bed was cozy. We would definitely like to stay here again when we come back to Nola!

Perfect Home Base In New Orleans-Clean and Safe!

I have stayed here twice and looked around this time to compare prices. Hotels in the area range 50% higher and more. Rooms for rent advertise a similar rate then add a "property fee." There's one place where you can stay with others in the room that you may not know for 30% more! I was taken in as an honored guest the first time I stayed and welcomed back as family on my second visit. St Chuck is a quiet place convenient to everywhere you should go in New Orleans - come join the family!

Save your money and become part of the family!

Once again we are not disappointed by our stay in this establishment! Warm and family home! Quiet, and located two steps from the bus stop on the street named Desire! Very nice neighborhood as this garden district away from the crowds of the city centre! Two steps from the museum of the Second World War! Retro charm, no television, but what happiness!!!!! Nice swimming pool and typical dining area!!

Serenity

We slept 4 nights in this guesthouse found a bit by chance on the internet. Good location of the establishment, off the main avenue so quietly, we had a room in the main building, the room was nice with a double bed and a bathroom, the welcome super. Only small beems are breakfast (very light, but at a price OK) and all in a bag, no fresh product. It's an old establishment and it's really starting to look (sorry!) Address to remember!

Good value for money

I have stayed all over New Orleans. Hotels here have become more expensive and yet St Charles Guest house is still a bargain in the perfect location. This was my second stay and it was like catching up with old friends. Dennis takes a personal interest in every guest. The property is large enough so you have privacy but cozy enough - and quirky - to make you feel at home. A block away from the St Charles streetcar, there is no need for a car here if you are able to walk a little. I drove this time, though, and on street parking was safe, convenient - and free! Don't forget may hotels charge for parking now. The rooms in this historic property are comfortable and clean and I can't say enough about the personalized service. Stay on a Wednesday in the spring and you'll have a free show at Lafayette Square. Also close by public transportation is the new Pythian Food Hall - with dining choices for the whole family! Escape the French Quarter and explore the Garden District, starting at St. Charles Guest House!
