We booked here because family in the area and very little was available. Communication was poor. They ask you to email or call if you arrive after 6pm. We did both multiple times without a response. Upon arrival, the smell of insecticide was overwhelming. The water also smelled like sulphuric and it permeated the skin and hair. The door looked like it had been jimmied. It’s old and nothing has been updated except a tv and maybe the bed. We will never stay again nor would we recommend this inn. We have stayed many places and this was the worst. 

Warning not to stay

This motel had gotten pretty good reviews.  So, although it was anxiously older, it looks as though the owner has done a nice job keeping it nice as they could. We notified the motel we needed to check in early, and they were very acomadating. 
We checked in early but did not go to the room since we had some place to be at 2 pm. We finally arrived back at the room about 10pm. We had room #10. The carpet seemed newer, walls were painted nice, and beds seemed good. We did notice an odd odor in the room. A kind of sulffer or rotten egg smell. The bathroom was very dated but clean, with the exception of the fresh water stains on the bathroom ceiling tiles. 
 In the morning, I got my shower, and it was not until I was in the shower that I realized the sulffer smell was coming from the water. After "getting clean" my skin stunk all day of that sulffer smell.  
 So the motel was ok but certainly not the water. If I ever find myself in the area again I will do my best to avoid it.

Motel was ok but water not so much 

Made a decision to stop and woke up with carbon monoxide poisoning.  I woke up and the gas heater on the wall was keeping up with the cold and there was no CO2/smoke detector in the room.  Never again

Death trap

The Skaneateles Inn is an older roadside motel, like the ones I always stayed at when I was a kid travelling with my parents. It has less than 20 rooms with a pool and a lot of acreage and is only about 1 mile west of Skaneateles, though the address says Auburn, which is probably 4 miles away. The king room was small but clean, with the interesting original bathroom. There is no breakfast, and you go to the office and buzz for help checking in and out. The outside needed some upkeep in areas but overall, it was a pleasant stay bringing back some good old memories. Priced a touch high but we would certainly stay here again if passing thru the area in the future. This is a tough one and 3.5 is the category it should be in if there was one. When travelling we like to support these old classic motels from days gone by if possible because often they are very nice. It is nice to skip the sterile chain motels from time to time and get the feel of the way it used to be.

Nice Older Roadside Motel

There was no heat (it was 39 degrees at 8am), no iron, no hair dryer, no wifi and the TV didn't work one night.  Poor water pressure made showering difficult.  The water wasn't drinkable and turned my silver jewelry black.  The window was cracked.  The door didn't lock properly and you could see daylight on the lock side and across the bottom.  I booked 2 rooms and rather than getting adjoining rooms or rooms next door, we got rooms far apart.  The room was way overpriced for the quality of the room.  Worst motel experience ever.

terrible motel!

We arrived a little early, hoping it would be okay. The lady that answered the door was unfriendly.  She made it very clear that we were early, in fact she reminded us 3 times.  The reception area was messy, clutter and piles of stuff everywhere. 

The room was very average at best. We could hear the shower running from the room next to us.  The bathroom was dated, as I don't think you get the stains out of the bathtub. The shower head was a hand wand, and very little water pressure.  I could quite figure out the smell of the water it was a cross of sewage and Sulphur. 

Certainly not worth the price we paid.  Way overpriced...Should be half the price. 

Not a place I will be staying in the future

Bates Motel

Clean, comfortable and close to town. Our room #3 was very clean with a comfortable king bed, in room microwave and fridge. There were complimentary snacks, coffee maker and bottled water on the credenza. The fridge also had soda and more bottled water ($1 honor system).  Just two concerning issues prevented us giving the place 5 stars.  Although our room was exceptionally clean, the AC filter and separate heater vents were dirty. The other issue maybe for the elderly or infirm folks was that there were no grab handles in the bath tub. 

No excuse for management, if the housekeeping staff can keep rooms as spotless as ours, the maintenance staff should be able to open and clean the HVAC at least a couple of times a year in a 20 room motel.  Maybe I'm OCD, but I find dirty HVAC in about half the motels that I stay in and this really annoys me.  I would have given this motel 5 stars except for this one annoyance.

Clean, comfortable and close to town

Place is great.  Clean, affordable, and staff is amazing.  Really helpful.  Great place to stay with kids as the pool was large and clean.  Mattresses were very comfortable for a motel.  Will be back. 
Location is just outside of town and perfectly located close to shopping and restaurants in Auburn.

Great Motel

This is an old fashioned motel designed so the rooms open directly to parking area. So you don't need to worry about shared spaces/risks of Covid19.  Very clean family-run place to stay.  The outdoor swimming pool was a bonus.  Also  has outdoor seating, so we could meet our friends for dinner and have a picnic.  Just a few minutes from Skaneateles Lake and village shopping. A restful place to stay.

Super clean and great location.

Skaneateles Inn on 20 is a friendly, clean, and very accommodating.  I am very satisfied customer and will plan to stay here again in the future.  I highly recommend staying here  if you are in the Skaneateles area.
