This was the first time i have checked into a hotel using the bartender. It will be the last time. The tripadvisor listing said that the hotel had internet service. It did not (please note this tripadvisor). I canceled the second day of stay. I went to the bartender and asked to cancel the next day. He turned around without a word. Five minutes later I asked if he had canceled the next day. He said yes. It would of been nice if he had told me.  I was not given any paper work at any time. The next morning, at 920, I tried to get a receipt. The door was lock and no one was around so I left. 
When I got home I checked my credit card and their was the charge for the two night PLUS another charge for one night. I summited a claim with my credit card company and it has been removed. 
My lesson is, when the hotel uses a bartender, run, run away fast. 

Don't use the bartender to run your hotel.

Nice place, with a fantastic restaurant on site. Rooms are clean and have good coffee and a fridge. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating, is the beds tend to be a bit noisy. But I have no other complaints.


Nice place to stay vs. the chain motels which sometimes have questionable patrons.

If you are in need of lodging in the Norwich NY area, this is the place to go. Avoid the chain motels which cater to the "not so nice" crowd. Fred's is a clean, comfortable place, with large rooms and an extra: One great restaurant on site. The food at the restaurant is very reasonable, and excellent. 

The Best resort in Norwich, New York

I had reserved 2 rooms at Fred’s Inn, Norwich, NY for the period September 30 2022 to October 2 2022 using the Fred’s Inn website.  I had previously stayed here back in 2007.
In a word the rooms are tired.  First they required an advance full non-refundable payment for the rooms at the time I made the reservations. Not a big issue as this was the recommended place to stay for the wedding we were there for.  Second, they still use keys for the rooms a big security issue.  Check in was at the bar of the adjacent restaurant and at the time the Bartender was the only employee present; making drinks, seating diners, checking people in and giving out the room keys.
Room 1 (#24):  Each window had a broken slat in the blind. TV had no instructions on how to turn on; Cable remote did not turn TV on.  After a search found the TV remote which did turn on and off the TV. The room had a smoke smell even though all the room are no-smoking.  Think the odor probably came from guests smoking outside the door with the window open as they had benches with ash trays just outside the doors.  Ceiling showed signs of some moisture with a couple of brown spots seen on the ceiling board at the peak of the rooms ceiling.
Room 2 (#17):  Bed Bugs!  Need I say anything more.  4-5 were found on the bed after the first night.   chatted with a housekeeper who said that they had just had the exterminator in treating the rooms for the Bed Bugs and found it surprising, but we did have photographic evidence of the problem.  Because of staffing, the office only opened at 11 AM which is when we reported the issue. They apologized and said another room would become vacant later on and they would change the room.
Replacement Room (#4):  Windows were wide open, moved our belongings, checked for bugs, all good.  Changed, went to wedding. Before leaving closed the windows for security and that temperature was going to go into 40’s.  At 11:15 pm returned to room and upon opening the door we were hit by the odor of mold and mildew as well as super high humidity in the room.  Walked over by the Jacuzzi and the carpet is wet from an apparent leak from the Jacuzzi.  From the smell, this was not something that just occurred.  Again, the office was not open to say anything about the issue, before we left at 7:30 Sunday morning
For the price of $176.16  per room per night, this was not in any way worth the price and I would not stay here again.

Tired Rooms

Jumped into the car for a short road trip and found ourselves here!  So glad we found this place!  Great food, great bar, cozy clean room and super hot shower!  The staff were very friendly as were the couples having dinner at the bar.  We will be staying here again once the snow flies just “because”.

A great surprise!

We spent two nights at Fred's, using it as a base while we visited friends in the area.  Did NOT try the restaurant, so this review talks strictly about the hotel accommodation.  It may be the best in Norwich, I can't say.  I found it perfectly adequate for what we needed:  A bed, a shower, good AC and decently clean and quiet.

My companion thought her room was less adequate than mine; perhaps expectations made the difference.  

MY AC was terribly loud 1st night, before the 2nd night I spoke with the bar tender, we pulled the front filter and washed it in the sink.  LOTS of dust, and maybe it was quieter 2nd night.

Bed was comfortable.  Beautiful sunrises if you wake up early.

My wife and I stayed here for a mini weekend vacation. This was an adorable inn. Very clean and everyone was friendly. The room we had was comfortable and well equipped. The buffet was yummy as well. We only stayed two nights but we will definitely come back!

Wonderful mini vacation stay

First, you have to go into the restaurant to check in (I'm assuming they're short-handed because of Covid)?? My husband had to wait a bit before someone noticed him standing there. We were given a room with two doubles, but the room was dirty -- visible dust on the furniture and the TV and AC didn't work! We were moved to another room -- much bigger with king sized bed, sofa sleeper. The 2nd room was much better -- cleaner, more comfortable, AC and TV worked. But why give customers a bad room to start off?! It was quiet there.

2nd room was good

Very Clean Comfortable Room! We had a room with a king bed, sleeper sofa and fireplace.  The room was very large and had a fridge, microwave, Keurig and small table. The room had plenty of space even with all this and a desk.  I room was very clean.   The housekeeper and staff were friendly. I will be back to stay.

We arrived at 930 and the kitchen and bar were closing even though on the website it says 1am on saturday then our shower haed didnt work in our room. Come morning thinking we could have breakfast we find out that after spending 75$ for a few hours here that we also have to pay for the breakfast. Place is garbage. Fals advertising very disappointing. NEVER COMING BACK AND WILL STEAR EVERYONE I KNOW AWAY.
