We stayed at this rural B&B in early October because it was close to Merchants Millpond state park. It's a charming property with friendly and accommodating owners (and a cute cat!) Our room was large and clean with pretty antique furnishings. The (shared) bathroom is down the hall. We enjoyed a delicious home-cooked breakfast on the porch in the morning. FYI, there are no TV's in the rooms but there is complimentary wifi for guests. I would also be aware that Google and Waze won't navigate you precisely to the house since it is quite rural. If you're coming from 158, turn towards the Sunoco station (at the intersection of 158 & 32), then go about half a mile and the house will be on your right set back from the street a bit. The only groceries in town at at Family Dollar but there is a big Wal Mart about twenty minutes away towards Elizabeth City. We will definitely stay here again if we are in the area. Thank you

Quiet rural retreat

I had communicated with Brenda to let her know that we would be there after 5.  We arrived at 5:15, no one was there.  Knocked... no answer.  Waited for 45 minutes, left because we had plans that evening.  Received an email about 10 minutes later stating she was there.  Returned that evening.  Brenda and her husband were very friendly.  However, the house smelled strongly of mold.  There were pests in the bathroom and we had DIRT in our bed. House was not clean.  We left early the next morning, and didn't return the next night (although I booked two nights).  I didn't receive any communication with her inquiring why.

Not what we were expecting.

This was our very best sleeping night on our vacation. The room we had was very cozy and warm with comfortable linens.  The location is remote so bring dinner.  Yes the building is being restored, and yes we had a shared bathroom but that did not detract from our enjoyment. I think Brenda and Graham are just very accommodating and friendly hosts which made our stay so good. We arrived on a cold and rainy night and they gave us hot tea and cookies-- I tell you that was the most welcome thing  after arriving on bicycle in the rain.   The breakfast was nice and the price was affordable.  What matters to us when traveling  is a good place to store our bikes, a hot shower, how comfortable we sleep and a good breakfast --so we got all of that.

Very cozy and nice sleeping in the middle of nowhere

We had a little trouble finding the place, but some helpful neighbors pointed us in the right direction. The landscaping leaves a lot to be desired. And there is an abandoned school next door. The owner is super friendly. She gave us the wifi password, but when we tried to use it late at night and it didn't work, we didn't want to wake her. We also didn't feel comfortable waking her in the middle of an August night when we were so hot and couldn't control the room temperature. And I didn't check my email until the morning- that's when I realized that breakfast is not included in the price. We couldn't find the owners to ask.

Not Your Typical B&B

My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay for one night during our trip to the outer banks. Brenda was so accommodating, letting us reserve on the same day and being welcoming even though we got there way past our initial ETA. The room was clean and cozy and I got all the rest I needed. I definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates a good night of sleep in a quiet, historic place. 

Perfect place to stay on any road trip 

The house is old but that is abundantly clear on the website if you simply look at the pictures and read "1940's" in description. The grass is mowed but the grounds are not "manicured". The house is adequately maintained...everything worked fine...washer, dryer, stove, kitchen sink, microwave, refrigerator (all of which is available for use by guests), the shower, the sink. There were at least 3 other guests there. I encountered them in hall, but I never heard either of them when I was in my room. Good email communication after I made my reservation. Slept well. I was accommodated on the two occasions where I forgot to bring something or didn't know to bring something...a basketball and 3 eggs...thanks, guys...great break from the typical business hotels I frequent...see you soon!
