This was a perfect place for our vacation! Everything was extremely clean and the kitchenette was supplied with dishes and coffee.  The bathroom had plenty of towels and hair products. The bed was comfortable and there is a tv and ac/heating unit in the living room and bedroom. 
We received a checkin text that morning with codes for the doors. When I booked, I was concerned we would hear noise from the bakery very early in the morning but we never heard anything! It is a very quiet place! Even though we never felt unsafe in the town we were a little uneasy about the outside doors being unlocked, a code on them would be a plus. It was a great place to stay and we highly recommend!!!

Great Place!!!

We had a fantastic 3-night stay in Unit 3. Northeast Harbor is a charming village away from the Bar Harbor crowds. It’s centrally located to both the main and the west sections of Acadia National Park: about 20 minutes from Hulls Cove Visitor Center and Cadillac Mountain to the east, and about 30 minutes from Bass Harbor Lighthouse to the west. Some of the trailheads are within 3 miles of The Colonels.

Communication with the host was excellent. I received texts at the right moments before and at the end of our stay so we knew what to do at checkin and checkout. Be prepared to walk up 21 steps with your suitcases. (I didn’t mind climbing steps on our arrival, but I kinda did when we got home from a tiring hike!)The suite–really, the small apartment–is quite roomy, very very quiet, meticulously clean, and well supplied. You can tell that the hosts really care. There are plenty of linens and extra blankets, and the kitchen has all the basics. I’m posting some pictures of the kitchen items because that would have been helpful for me to know in advance. Down the hall you’ll find an ice machine, washer, and dryer. I didn’t use the laundry, but I think they had detergent pods available. The machines take 4 quarters each. I like that the restaurant downstairs is open 7 days, unlike many of the restaurants in the area. We only had one opportunity to eat dinner there, but we enjoyed it very much.

Quiet, roomy suite in a perfect location

Summary: Great location; rooms are spacious and comfortable; no on-site reception but hosts are responsive by phone/text; get check-in info in advance; pull-out couch needs replacing.

Details:

Excellent location in Northeast Harbor, which is close to everything you want to do and see on Mt. Desert Island while also being way less crowded and way more laid back than Bar Harbor.

The suites are located above the Colonel's Restaurant & Bakery, which has yummy baked goods and a low-key bar. We didn't eat at the restaurant. Despite being over a busy restaurant, our room was quiet and peaceful. 

Nice spacious living room with couch, chair, and TV.

Kitchen has a microwave, Keurig coffee machine (bring your pods or buy them on the way in; the small grocery store in town doesn't carry them), mini-fridge, plates & cups etc., and a small kitchen table -- seats two, not four.

The bathroom in our suite had tile floors, an attractive new sink fixture, new lighting, and a new shower head with plenty of water pressure. Nice soap & shampoo, with extras available in the hallway.

The bedroom in our suite was really nice. King bed with a quality mattress, new paint, TV, air conditioning.

Tip: Get check-in info before you arrive or, at minimum, the wifi password in case your phones don't have cell service. Our phones didn't work in town (they worked elsewhere on the island), so we didn't get the text the owners sent us at check-in time. We had to ask the nice people at the Colonel's Restaurant downstairs to use their house phone to call the owners. The owners actually answered the phone and supplied us the check-in info right away.

The ONLY downside was the pull-out couch. It was so uncomfortable that nobody could sleep on it. It was uneven (sloped towards the wall) and you could feel the mattress springs. We contacted the owners and they immediately arranged for us to use the rollaway bed from another unit, so everything was fine in the end. The owners seem very interested in ensuring that guests have a good experience, so I'm sure they will start looking into replacing the pull-out bed.

Good value and location; note two things before you book

When I read others’ reviews that this place was very clean, it convinced me to book a stay here. It is a hidden gem right in the quiet village of Northeast Harbor. Extremely clean and updated with all the conveniences you need, including fridge with freezer, microwave, toaster, dishes, glasses, coffee mugs, and silverware…everything to make you comfortable. Spacious suite on the second floor of the restaurant,but I never heard a sound from downstairs. The affordable price is misleading, as I thought I would get much less for my money than I did! This is a bargain and I will definitely stay here again!

Very comfortable accommodations far exceeded my expectations!

The good:
*the room was spacious and clean.  the sitting area was great.  the kitchenette was useful.  king size bed.
*this was a convenient launching pad to hikes at Jordan Pond and the two gardens (highly recommend all).  We also did the Beech Cliffs trail (further west), so it was well positioned for that, too.  Not too much of a drive to Bar Harbor.

The not-so-great:
*we booked thru expedia, no mention of the 20 steps you need to climb with all your luggage to your room.  We had hiked Mt. Katahdin the day before, so those steps were rough.
*the "parking" - which is on their website as "we offer parking for one car per suite" - is not actually true - it's street parking, so hit or miss.  We were there at the end of the season while a lot of stuff was closed, so we did not have any trouble, but I did specifically check out the parking before booking and felt mislead by this.
*the breakfast that wasn't.  If you google this place you will see it comes up as a "bed and breakfast", and one of their website pages says it is a B&B.  there is a $15 fee per night per person when booking through expedia, which I stupidly assumed was for breakfast.  Not only is there no breakfast, there is nowhere to get breakfast, and no info in the room about what you might like to do regarding this.  If it had just been made clear beforehand, we could have brought breakfast.  For some reason, the bakery over which this is located doesn't open until 11 am, so that's not the answer either.  Also, what was the $15 per additional person per night charge for??
*hardly any restaurants are open here at the end of September, so you need to drive elsewhere for some variety.  We were able to walk to the Nor'Easter on the night it was open, but there was a pretty decent wait because not much else was open.

Also, if you like to chat up the front desk, this place is not for you.  We never spoke to a person.  We got a text telling us the code to our room, which we were asked to acknowledge - it took us hours of trying to confirm in the park, as cell reception is terrible.  At some point a receipt appeared under our door.  We never spoke to anyone.  That worked out fine, but that may not be your style.

As you can see by the overall 4 star rating, the nice nature of the room and the comfy bed more than offset the less-great items.

very comfy room

The unit is very clean and the bed and sofa bed are very comfortable. Whole unit looks like new. It is walking distance to marina and short drive to Arcadia National Park. Downstairs is bakery and restaurant. We ordered twice from the restaurant and the food was quite good indeed. The owner responded our questions timely. I only gave 4 stars because at night, when everybody uses internet, it got very slow. Next morning it was back to normal again. 

Love this place!

Our suite was super clean, roomy and very comfortable.  Towels were thick and plush.  And there is a restaurant and bakery right downstairs.  Talk about convenient!  Cute, quiet main street and short walk to pretty marina.  Convenient drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

Clean and Cozy!

We were on a 7-state road trip across New England and this was one of our home base rooms for our visit in Maine. We got lost as we didn't know the difference between Bar Harbor and NE Harbor but after a quick call to the owner, we were on the road and there in no time. We were so glad because Bar Harbor was so crowded and busy with so much going on. The secluded area was just ideal. There are various rooms at these suites. Our room was nothing like the pictures above but it was perfectly adequate for us. Would have been nice to have one with a sink by the coffee service. We had a small sitting area with a coffee service and refrigerator and tv and then another tv in the bedroom area but we had a lot of trouble figuring out how to use the tv. Very confusing for us. We had adequate towels and amenities but the bed and pillows we had were extremely hard. Maybe others would find it okay but it was too much for us. This was a good home base for 3 nights. The owner was very communicative and very helpful since we arrived late. It was confusing because we picked up our key from the bakery downstairs and we had to carry our luggage up a long flight of stairs. The best part about this place is the restaurant below. We were given tickets for a set breakfast the mornings we were there except for the last one since the restaurant was closing down for the winter season and only open at lunch. Good thing we weren't staying longer. It was a perk to have this choice since the town seems to shut down and there wasn't a lot available to chose from when we arrived back after our long days of exploring. We never spent much time in the town so we can't offer up suggestions but we did pick up rolls and donuts at the bakery for the next morning to begin our long drive. There is a laundry service available for guests and they have a very set cleaning time available if you want to take advantage of it. We did one day but there wasn't the typical service you would expect including making beds, etc. Maybe just the addition of a towel or two. We id leave a note to get more coffee for the following morning. We opted out of the service the next two days.

Basically it’s 6 apartments over a Bakery and Restaurant...Bot oh it’s so much more.

Close to all parts of Acadia Park...highly recommend the Carriage trails on foot or Bike. 
The room is Quite spacious and even has Air conditioning...never needed it. Kept the windows open and it was delightful. Kitchenette is nicely equipped 
If you want Action Bar Harbor is 10 minutes away...if you want Lobsters you must try Beals in Southwest Harbor 15 minutes away 
The staff are helpful...Great Breakfast and great restaurant....and they have a Bar


It Really is a Gem

Our family stayed here for one night prior to going to Bar Harbor, ME for the remainder of our vacation. We found the hotel to be really nice and comfortable which was located above the Colone's bakery and restaurant. The hotel has only 5 suites to book. We booked a 1 king bedroom suite with a separate living room area with pull out sofa bed. This was comfortable for us. The room was also very clean as well. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and sink. 

The bathroom was really nice as well with a beautiful dresser at the mirror with a sink. There were an ample supply of free soaps, lotions, shampoo that were provided as well. Shower pressure was really good as well.

There is free-wifi but you need the password to access it. There is a book in each room with important information for your stay. There is even a book int he room where you can write your impressions and comments about your stay as well. We of course left some nice comments about our stay here.

Guests are provided complimentary tickets for breakfast in the morning at the Colonel's restaurant downstairs. 

We needed some additional blankets and pillows the owner of the hotel and restaurant hand delivered them to us. It was wonderful service which we appreciated.  As a FYI, guests check into the hotel at the bakery downstairs. There is a separate flight of stairs to the second floor where the 5 suites are located.

There is street parking in front of the restaurant but it is limited to 2 hours during busy months of July and August where you could get a parking ticket of $ 20 if parked for longer than 2 hours. There is a parking lot behind the hotel where I recommend you park int he summer months of July and August to avoid being ticketed. 

Downtown Northeast Harbor is small with several shops and restaurants and limited parking.

We enjoyed our stay here and would visit again. I definitely recommend this hotel.
