We came to Starved Rock Lodge to spend the weekend and try to see some of the migrating eagles.  The Lodge was fantastic!  We booked a king room in the rustic, historic part of the lodge and it was so clean and comfortable.  The restaurant served delicious meals with so much to choose from, and it had  a cozy beautifully decorated working fireplace that made every meal even better.  We loved sitting in the large multi purpose room in the evening because it had a wonderful two sided huge woodburning fireplace with couches and tables all around for reading or playing cards, and they even provided games for their guests to play.  The gift shops are well stocked with plenty of items of interest, the visitors center and museum on the property is a definite must see with displays and short films about the lodge and things to do in the area.  We loved all the wood carvings everywhere on the property.  The large heated indoor pool was a popular place with many of the guests.  The cafe/gift shop in the lobby offered a variety of delectable fudge and ice cream, both of which are made right there at the lodge.  The cafe had a decent menu for anyone who doesn't want to eat a big meal in the restaurant, but just wants to grab a quick bite to eat.  Best of all it had snowed right before we arrived, and it was reminiscent of our stay in a lodge in Vermont.  Starved Rock did a great job of keeping the roads and sidewalks shoveled and salted so there was no problem getting around.

Charming, Beautiful HIstoric Lodge

We went with another couple to the Barbra Streisand Tribute Concert by singer Maureen Christine. It was a truly enjoyable concert, lots of great songs from the early years through the decades, and worth the ticket price for lunch and a show. I am a huge Streisand fan and was relieved to discover that the performer, Maureen, intended to sing Streisand's songs in a way that paid tribute to her career but not give an impersonation, which my friends and I were glad for. Maureen did sometimes sounded like Streisand, but it was clear she wasn't trying to imitate her, just honor her. She had a pianist w/her that did a really good job. We enjoyed our lunch and our friends were happy with the menu options. They got the fudge, and my husband regretted that he didn't.
We'll definitely be back.

Barbra Streisand Tribute Concert by Maureen Christine, Luncheon Theater

Very peaceful location. Comfortable bed and room. I looked out my room window and seen the pool although I didn’t use it. This place is wonderful. The food in the restaurant is excellent with big portions. The hiking is so beautiful. A lot of stairs. And the lodge is so spacious plus It has a nice souvenir store.

Saw the WWII radio show presentation, 
with tiptoe down memory lane, 
the songs were so enjoyable.  
Buffet lunch was delicious,  
good value for cost of show and meal.  
The lodge setting is perfect for this type of outing.

Great show, and lunch!

Very very comfortable place to spend a few days.  Our meals were good not high cuisine but basic food well presented.  We had one meal in the 1930's lodge building and another on the deck.  Both were good.

We loved our room.  It was cozy and comfortable and well appointed.  The bathroom was small - a factor of the age of the place and something not correctable.  

There are hiking trails all around the park so there is plenty to do.  

One note, this place gets crazy crowded during the summer season and in colorful October.  Best to enjoy in the off season.

Warm and cozy old-time lodge

We stayed in the hotel which was very comfortable and ate outside on the Veranda which had good food and great views. We were there mid week and avoided the crowds which made it even better. Super convenient to hiking trails.

Wonderful experience

Was very happy with the room I had reserved. (room 311). Had a bay type window that looked toward the river. At least it was a nice view of trees. {Plenty of room to move around with a table and chairs, desk, and king size bed. Room was well maintained. 

The food prices were a little pricey so we did not eat there. Also no food available until 8am. 

Another nice thing is the trails start right there so you don't have to drive to get them. Highly recommend this place.

Very nice lodge

This was our first visit to Starved Rock Lodge and it did not disappoint. We stayed in the hotel section of the lodge and our room was on the 2nd floor and very comfortable. One needs to remember the lodge was built over 80 years ago, so the rooms are on the smallish side and the furnishings are “lodge type” such as log tables and chairs. With that being said, they have all modern conveniences. TV, Wi-Fi, USB ports, etc. our room was clean and everything was in working order. Everyone we encountered was friendly. The pool is huge and the perfect temperature. We enjoyed the hot tub after a full day of hiking!  The trails are just gorgeous. Breath taking views!  We had several meals in the main dining room, one being a steak dinner. All meals were great with super service. Reasonable prices. The Back Door Lounge is a great place to relax. Order a drink and head outside on the huge deck. Watch for eagles!  It appeared that all of the staff were working really hard to make our stay enjoyable. We will definitely return to The Starved Rock Lodge and I highly recommend!

Wonderful visit

Family favorite place to read, chill, hike, snack, learn, and connect with who you are --in your heart and soul. This Illinois State Park feels more like a National Park with the  1930s era WPA CCC lodge, and other era built features, trails, and shelters.  Starved Rock is full of history, lore, and architecture.  Book a Sunset King cabin, with your own private fireplace!!

We stayed in the Lodge for a one-night / two day visit to the Park.
Room was comfortable and clean.
We enjoyed the restaurant (try the Walleye!!!)
Staff was friendly and professional.
Great setting with outside patio/bar in addition to the restaurant.  Easy on/off to the trails.
