Got there in the mid afternoon and the place looked deserted. Check in was OK but when I got to my assigned room the nightmare began. As I parked I noticed a toddler running around the parking lot in diapers while its parents looked on from a broken chair. A little later some crack head set up shop across from my room and blared music while he rolled around on the sidewalk. I called management and complained. They said they would talk to him. Things quieted for a couple of hours, but started up later in the evening when two more druggies joined him and cursed, coughed their lungs up from whatever they were smoking, and yelled throughout the night until 4 AM. No sleep for me and management had disappeared. The room had fragrance beads dumped into the HVAC vents and behind the bed which made a completely choking environment. The wall paper was peeling, the chairs wobbled as it they had been previously broken, and the bathroom was missing the towel bar. Taking a shower could cost you your life as the tub was peeling, slippery and had nothing to hold onto. The advertised restaurant was non-existent. It appears that the place is a now section 8 housing with a few rooms that fraud as motel rooms. If you like being in hell this is the place for you.

Horrible beyond words

I chose the least expensive hotel in town, at $120 per night, and it was definitely bottom of the barrel.  Not clean at all, pillows were flat, wifi stunk, bug came out of the stinky heater, gum on the carpet, cigarette burns on the carpet & frig.

Check in was surprisingly efficient even though operator was behind all this covid barrier stuff. Price was good and they got our large party in consecutive doors so, they know about customer service.
They really need to make several upgrades. Our mini fridge didn't work, the clock didn't work, shower was only warm enough to tolerate. AC was either on full blast or off could not regulate room temperature efficiently.
Looks clean and it was comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep.

They couldn't give us info for local eating & directions.  They had 2 new ice machines in their lobby, they were unhooked so people wouldn't use them. Said they would give us a small bucket when they opened at 10:00 am the next morning from behind their "caged" area. Abandoned cars in the parking lot. No coffee

NOT UP TO PAR FOR PRICE CHARGE...we travel alot....we were not satisfied with the accommodations vs price charged.  Not helpful 

There are 3 long, single story sections. Don’t take a room in most southern section, graffiti abounds. The middle section is best but rooms are very small. My best advice is to ask to look around the property and rooms before you decide because it’s not for everyone. Restaurant is good.

Traveling for a special event, we enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Motel 88.  Our room was very comfortable, clean and quiet.  The bathroom appeared to be newly remodeled.  Enjoyed both the great onsite restaurant and restaurant across the street.

I have worked in the hotel business for 20 years. I'm a multi year General Manager with multiple industry certifications, not to mention I own a hotel management company. My son is playing at dreams park and at the time of booking I could only find this one as IHG the brand I work for was sold out. I got there early and was allowed to check in with no problem. I told the lady at the front I might be checking out early is that ok to do? She said yes I would just have to call booking.com so they knew and check out by 11am. No problem right? Well remember this as I will come back too it shortly. Entering the room I didnt expect much the room was ok. The property was sketchy and they have a mechanic working on cars at 1am. The woman next too us beat her head on the door all through the night literally beat her head. In 3 days nobody gave us toilet paper, new towels, or even vacuum. They I guess would come in and just throw blankets back over the bed. I too like others had been told it was an upgraded room it definitely was not. All good but when I went to check out the lady refused to give me what was left of my money telling me it was a 25% cancellation fee because booking.com was going to charge them. I said too her lady I run hotels and know booking.com very well that's a lie. So I called booking.com and the lady from England literally laughed. She called the property and the lady said they would refund what I should be refunded. So I was due back quite a bit of money. When she got off the phone she stated she never told bookin.com this however we have her on recording saying so. Even the other girl working the desk who was on her first day told her to give me my money back. When I asked to speak to the manager she stated the manager is never there. Never there!!!!!!!!! So at this point I'm so mad I just leave but what horrible service and paying what i paid for there i finally got a hotel near the ballfields for 40.00 more a night. Do yourself a favor as I have managed hotels like these, they are not worth it when it smells sketchy, looks sketchy, it most certainly sketchy. That's how MOTELS like that stay in business.

Like many others, don't expect a holiday inn or place like that. It's not. From the parking lot you think to yourself what kind of place is this. However when it's all said and done, its worth a look. Family weekend for oneonta. Rates were a good $100 less a night than the others.  All the staff I interacted with were super nice. The room, while plain and simple and maybe outdated, was clean. The ac worked fine. In about 5 min you are at either college. I would not hesitate to stay here on a future trip.

Don't go in expecting luxury accommodations because you won't find it here. However, if you are on a budget or, like me, waited too long to book your stay near Oneonta, it's not a terrible place. I agree with many of the other reviewers in that it's very outdated and a bit sketchy looking from the outside but I do not agree that it was filthy. Apart from a stain here and there, I actually found it rather clean. My water pressure was good, the AC and fridge worked great, it's in a safe and quiet location, McDonald's and Walgreens are both nearby and it's super close to the Oneonta colleges. The woman at the front desk was friendly and check in and out was a breeze. I parked right in front of my room and had no issues at all once inside. The bed was ok other than a stain on one of the bed spreads (so I just slept in the other bed). No hair dryer. Plenty of soap but no shampoo and conditioner so plan accordingly.  I arrived after a day of moving my daughter into her house for senior year, slept fine and was on my way in the morning so I didn't need much more.

No, it's not the Ritz but...

My son and I went to Cooperstown for Chipper Jones' Hall of Fame induction and booked Motel 88 because it was cheap (relatively speaking considering it was induction weekend) and as close to Cooperstown as we could find.

I wasn't real encouraged when we pulled up. The place looked like it was right out of the 1970 ... including an actual key, rather than a keycard to unlock the door. But my mind was put at ease when we got into the room. The place was clean and well-maintained, the flatscreen TV was new, the wireless worked and was free and the beds were comfortable.  There was also a Chinese restaurant attached to the front office and what appeared to be a steak place directly across the street.

The thing about Motel 88, however, was the staff of this mom-and-pop operation. The manager Toni was amazing ... helpful, friendly and extremely accommodating. We'll definitely be staying here again on our next pilgrimage to Cooperstown!
