We love the Deer Haven. It is not a fancy place but it is clean and comfortable.  We love the location and always take our chairs and walk to the beach for sunset.  Amit at the front desk is a wonderful person and helpful.

Another nice stay

We stayed 3 days there and no one time we could take shower. Water was cold, we had to call them, then hot wayer would appear. We were told to run water for up to 6 min before yaking shower (nice water saving ?). Once hot water stopped in the middle of the shower. It was disgusting

Hot water is a problem

The rooms are nicely appointed and everyone (desk, house cleaning staff) is very friendly.  I thought the towels were a little on the chintzy side, but other than that it was a really nice motel!  Could use more outlets for EVs.

Great stay near Monterey!  (Pacific Grove).

My wife and I planned a last minute trip to Monterey.   I read a lot of the reviews for Deer Haven Inn and dismissed the bad ones and gave it a try and we are glad we did.
 We reserved the king bed with fireplace   
The fire place was simple and a nice touch to the room 
The bathroom was huge with 2 shower heads.   The front desk was very pleasant and the price was extremely reasonable 
10 minutes from The Monterey Bay Aquarium and the 17 mile drive   Very close to Carmel.
You are 5-10 minutes from food and a Safeway market    Best part, only an 8 minute walk to the beach   Pure white sand and a beautiful area.   You won’t be disappointed 
It’s not a huge room, but I’m not one to hang out in my room all day.   
We will stay here again on our next visit   
It’s simple, affordable and in the middle of everything you need to have fun and a great vacation 
Small tip, if your going to the aquarium, take an Uber and save time on finding parking 
It’s only about $13 each way

Close to everything.  8 minute walk to the beach

We needed a one night stay in Pacific Grove on a Saturday! The Deer Haven Inn had a room available! We reserved a King room with a fireplace and it was clean, updated and very comfortable plus very close to downtown Pacific Grove with it’s many shops and restaurants!

A gem in Pacific Grove!

This was our second stay at Deer Haven Inn. The first stay was a little more than three years ago. I read the newer reviews on TA after booking this stay and warned DD and DS it might not be nearly as good a place as DH and I recalled. 

It was a wonderful stay! Rooms were immaculate, evening desk clerk could not have been nicer, shower pressure was great, bed was comfortable, room was quiet. Yes, the door to our room was scuffed up, but that did not bother us.

If I am ever in Pacific Grove again, Deer Haven Inn with be my go-to place to stay. The rates are better than most places in the area and we had zero complaints.

Our second stay at Deer Haven Inn was just as nice as our first one

This has been our go to lodging on Monterey Peninsula.  The usual positives: clean room, etc.  But this trip negatives occurred.  Our shower had no hot water on departure morning, and we met another person with same problem.  The TV did not work first night, although night manager fixed it promptly.  We went to bed first night; night managers tv kept us awake.  We detected new management, so will look for new place to stay on our next trip.

Work needs to be done

Not woodsy.On busy street.Very overpriced. Very beat up. Amit the host was nice, but that is not enough. I have taken a photo of the side yard, which will be your view if you take room 120. I would not go again.

No Deer, No Haven

We chose this hotel based on location, and Trip Advisor reviews.  What a disappointment.  We stayed two nights, in two rooms. 

Check-in was through a window, where the lady working there slid the paperwork and key through a slot. We asked for two rooms close together, and they could not have been further apart. 

This motel is one level in some sections, and two levels in other sections. No elevator if you’re on the second floor.

First clue to the condition of the hotel is the door to each room. They’re completely battered, and in need of some paint.  For the price we paid per night, they can afford a can of paint. The second room our family had, could be opened just by pushing on the door, even though it was locked!  After many useless suggestions from the front office, and many hours of waiting, they finally moved our family in that room to a different room. 

The rooms (two queen beds) are quite small. There is barely enough room to open up your suitcase. The fireplace was nice, but beware that there is no air conditioning. 

There is also no breakfast included, even though the website indicates that there is. 

The fire-pit looks nice in website photos, but is actually just outside the window where you check in, and right on the corner, at the stop sign. Not exactly a nice comfortable place to relax. 

There was no housekeeping, when we were there for two nights, even though we hung the sign outside our door for housekeeping. 

Check-out was disappointing. They took the key, and asked nothing about our stay. 

I don’t usually write negative reviews, because I do a lot of research before hand, but this place deserves a poor rating.  Location is the only good thing about it.

Disappointing and run down.

We have stayed at this inn off and on over the years and have always been happy with it, but our most recent stay was not as nice. This inn needs some TLC. The rubber mat for the bathtub looked moldy, the flooring in our room was in need of repair or replacement. Will probably look for another place to stay the next time we’re in the area.
