Billed as an 18th century building, the restaurant offered regional meals with a chef's flair.  We ate appetizers that were creatively sauced.  We were provided delightful service by a waitress familiar with the area who engaged us in conversation.  The dining room was a locals gathering place.

Conviviality and a creative menu

This review is for dining only, as a couple we reserved for Valentines day 2024.  This experience was extremely underwhelming. The following are key points that we observed.  
Valentines Day Menu was one sheet of paper laid on table, no menu cover book to hold it.
No roses  were handed out, to the ladies.
Extremely disappointed in the dining room the overhead lighting is harsh and too bright with no low lighting , available. 
No period music for romantic ambience. 
Service was acceptable but these staff member names.
Food, crab cakes 42 dollars 2 crab cakes not large not small but definitely could of been larger, 6 Brussels sprouts and a little portion of mashed potatoes.  The wife's dish pecan crusted chicken 28 dollars,  2 small chicken portions, 6 Brussels sprouts, and even less potatoes,  very tiny amounts. 
Appetizer imperial crab was impressive except the bread paired with it in terms of portion was 1/3 of a mini loaf. 
No salad or soups were included in the entree. 
Ordered coffee no coffee service as in a carafe. Underwhelming.  Not excitable no life or ambiance. Above our rooms historic fireplace is a terribly unattractive blue abstract framed print.  Ugh. Doesn't look like a Historic Inns art choice its just off setting. 
Here's what we expected at least , when reserving for s special day. 
A rose for every woman that has a dining reservation .
Ambiance background music, period music colonial or similar. 
Fresh Flowers or greens on mantle,  period appropriate art, furnishings that are placed properly and balance in lighting.
Plates that look special for a special experience.  Carafe coffee or hot tea service.  
Plated food that makes you remember that meal. Portion size must do better. Also coat check service. Very disappointed.

Underwhelming.   Wanted to love this place on Valentines Day

We were looking for a fine dining experience that we had not already tried.  How have we missed this restaurant in the 20 years we have lived near it?  
We had a delicious meal and were impressed when Chef George came out to greet us! Food and presentation was wonderful and the history and atmosphere of the inn was interesting!  
Looking forward to an excuse to return!!!

Fantastic find!

Our family had a wonderful time at the Mansion House just a few miles from historic Gettysburg. The charming Inn was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We enjoyed the spacious, clean, cozy & comfortable Patrick Henry suite. The linens and bed were superbly comfortable allowing us to fully relax following our international flight.

We enjoyed our stay at this farm to table, family owned & run business immensely. The Keeney family made us feel “at home” as they are so engaging and hospitable. We awoke to the scent of fresh scones being made one morning and bacon the next (locally sourced leading our son to exclaim, “ why doesn’t our bacon taste like this?” ). Dinner is a must. We thoroughly enjoyed the steak & my favorite, crab cakes and you must leave room for dessert!

We highly recommend this family friendly establishment & look forward to our return!

Charming

Great restaurant not far from Gettysburg in a historic town, historic building.  We all loved our entrees. We loved our waitress and the owner at one point came out to chat with us.  We go there every year when traveling in the area.  It's one of our favorites!

Great historic restaurant!

This was my first time staying at an inn that was built in the 1700's.  Mostly still original, inside and out.   The bathroom was upgraded to current standards.   Literally first class accomodations for that time frame.   Only thing, we didn't have to share the room with strangers; which is what took place back then.  We sadly didn't get to enjoy the tavern during business hours.   However, we did throughly enjoy our morning breakfast in there.  To celebrate my birthday,  I decided to have dinner at the Chef's Table.   We had our own room and personal server.  Our menu was created for us for the occasion.   Donna doesn't drink alcohol.  I did the wine pairing with each course.  The food was outstanding both in presentation and taste.  The wine was very good.  We had a very enjoyable time.  If you have a bucket list, you need to add this experience to your list.   Chef George paid us a visit during the final course.   Very cool place.  It was like stepping back in time.

Celebrating my birthday with Donna at the Mansion House 1757 in Fairfield, PA

We stayed for two nights over the Labour Day weekend. This is a place oozing with charm and history, in a town steeped with history. 
The owner, George, knows and loves every brick of the place and treated us to a terrific tour.
Patrick Henry, Thaddeus Stevens, Mamie Eisenhower. 
There’s a reason they all spent time here and if you come to stay George will engage you with the stories.
And did I mention he’s a five star chef?
We only had the breakfasts but they were superb.
Beds were comfy. Place was clean. 
It had everything we needed.
It’s located in the middle of some very important civil war sites.
Whether you’re a history buff, or just love a good B&B with atmosphere and a great breakfast. 
This is the place to be.
Reasonable rates.
Come see for yourself.

A Very Nice Stay.

EXCELLENT brunch at the Mansion House 1757!  Food was excellent, staff very attentive, owners very proud of the history of the establishment.  Such a wonderful combination of food, people and history. Definitely be a recurring visit when in the Gettysburg area. Thank you to Emma, the gracious hostess, very much a history buff, she even let me put up the flag outside to tell the world they were open for Brunch. Thank you to the great and wondertful Margaret, waitress extraordinaire, who has has personal accounts of the spirits that occupy the establishment, keep an eye on the pot. AND to the awesome owners George and Cindy, you passion for providing the best in the field of hospitality along with your anosukute love for the Inn is great and the legacy of the Inn will live on for years to come. Thank you all again for a great experience!!!

Mansion House 1757 is a MUST SEE when in Gettysburg!!

I had really high expectations based on the background of the chef and the farm to table theme.

We ordered a side salad, the bread, pecan crusted chicken, scallops, orange crush and a beer.

The side salad was respectable and the dressing was delightful
Bread. The bread was served with a yummy butter, but the bread itself was stale
Orange crush. It had a sour taste. When I looked more closely at the menu, I realized it had orange kombucha. No wonder why.  I guess I should have realized,  anyway, not good.
Scallops. The scallops were cooked to the right temperature. Not over or undercooked.  So no rubbery texture, which I appreciate.  They were supposed to be tarragon, but all I tasted was salt.  It was served with cauliflower and mashed potatoes on a white plate. Yeah. All white. It looked sad.
The pecan chicken was fried. The waitress had originally told us baked, which didn’t seem possible. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. It too was served with mashed potatoes and cauliflower on a white plate, but at least the chicken had pecans on it, so there was that.

All in all, a big disappointment and we didn’t try dessert.

I will say our server was delightful.

So so

Went for brunch and it was a wonderful experience! Made a reservation ahead of time and was seated right away. Our waitress, Janet, was extremely attentive and so kind! The food was great and the atmosphere was unmatched!
