Owners of property are very rude. My husband and I have wanting to dine here. However, after my experience on 7/31 I will not be supporting this business. I was in a wedding party and we stopped here for photos. The bride called in advance and was told to “feel free to use the property”. As we were taking pictures (not bothering anyone on the premises) the owners came out shouting profanities telling us to leave. They made a horrible impressions on the 30 people in this bridal party. Would not recommend Fern Hall Inn.

Horrible Experienve

We were in a wedding party and scheduled with management to take photos here and they literally came out cursing and filming, telling us to get the F out and have a nice life. Violently rude.  I can’t imagine what would make them speak to a literal limo pulling up?! So odd and really just classless, no one even asked or confirmed if we had called ahead, the bride also offered to pay but it was rented out. Wouldn’t recommend anyone deal with this place. Also pretty dingy looking up close.

Run off the property

One of our favorite places to visit.  A large, stone, manor house that makes me want to stand up straighter and spend time in each room.  The view from the back of the house is stunning and the deck of the boathouse is a delightful place to spend an afternoon and the working merino sheep farm almost takes you back in time.  
The owners have put a lot into restoring the estate house and making it more comfortable.  The bed we had could not have been more comfortable and the bed clothing was positively luxurious.  We are looking for our next excuse to make the ten-hour drive to stay there!

Wonderful!

No towels, no soap, no shampoo, needle showers, no airconditioning some of the time and not at all in the auxiliary house, no drapes in many rooms, nothing to do, nothing nearby except a filthy boathouse with three kayaks with paddles for two, filthy outdoor tables. No table lamps in many bedrooms, just a dysfunctional overhead light, no sound insulation, nothing to do. No TV, yes on Apple TV so you can stream, but poor internet, poor cell reception. Rustic and in the middle of nowhere but without a balancing charm.   I would not recommend this at all.

Seclude, quiet, great place - just north of the Poconos so not all of the hub bub... The restaurant is first rate, both the service and food are fantastic, don't miss it... a hidden gem and worth traveling to !!

Delightful !!!

Recently stayed at the Inn while in town for a wedding nearby.  We had three rooms for my family, the Innkeeper was very friendly and helpful as we needed to quickly check in and get dressed for our event. 
The positives, the inn had a great deal of old world charm, with period furnishings, interesting artwork, cozy sitting rooms, and both indoor and out door seating for breakfast. All of the rooms are spacious and comfortable (for the period). But do not expect up-to-date conveniences.  They do however have WIFI. Breakfast was good in the morning (French toast, coffee, eggs, bacon, and fruit). 
The downsides: not all of the electrical outlets in the room worked, and since we had only 1 night this was not a big deal.  But, it is a little difficult to blow dry and curl  your hair when the mirror is on one end of the room and the outlet is on the opposite wall and corner. It was 90+ degrees on the night we stayed, so we expected it would be a little hot so we just opened one of the windows and we were fine. But one of our other family rooms didn’t have screens so they were not able to get a breeze, and none of their outlets worked.

Overall it’s a nice place, and not expensive so I would stay again if we were in the area because it’s very charming and pleasant. . However... I would hope for a bit cooler weather.

Hot Summer Night


An very old and rustic Inn. The inn keeper/Owner is very friendly and the breakfasts were very good.  The room was spacious but the lighting in the room was horrible. I don't understand why on weekends the restaurant and bar were CLOSED. Since there is No AC and no ceiling fans WE READ that the breeze, from being in the mountains, would cool the room but I could not put down the screens down and did not want bugs in the room so we had to keep the windows closed. You would think the screens would have already been put down for the summer season. The Inn needs some basic maintenance, which seems to be neglected.  They was no soap ‘bar’ in the bathroom, no drinking water. The Inn keeper has two young people helping and at nights they like to sit on the patio playing there music.  All I heard was the thumping of the base from the songs they were playing. No consideration for the people sleeping.  Just seems to be disorganized. I think there are only 4 people running the Inn. I have been to a lot of Inns and this was not impressive. There were not very many people staying at the inn which is not a good sign in June on a weekend.  If it wasn’t for the people attending a wedding, at another location, the Inn would have been empty. 

Different 

My wife and I are from Philadelphia, so when we were planning a trip for our third anniversary we looked for something that was far away from the city life, peaceful, and quiet with beautiful surroundings. We knew we wanted to stay somewhere in the Pocono Mountains, and I happened to stumble on reviews of Fern Hall Inn since it made the top 10 list for Pocono retreats with the best value. Having spent three nights there starting on Wednesday and ending today, all I can say is this place was just what we were looking for and a whole lot more. 

Vicky, the innkeeper, was so sweet, friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The breakfasts every morning were delicious and fresh. My wife and I are early birds, so we'd always get to breakfast at 8 on the dot and Vicky would be there welcoming us and setting us up for food! We had an omelette one day, a vegetable quiche another day, and then a blueberry crepe on the last day. All three dishes were superb served with a coffee and a side of toast and your choice of bacon or sausage. Just delicious.

The room was extra roomy and cozy. We opted for a traditional room with a king size bed, private bathroom, and our own balcony overlooking the mountain. What a view!! Every morning we'd wake up to the birds chirping, the sun pouring in through the window, and a light mountain breeze. Just peaceful.

My wife and I don't play golf but for people who do, this place is great because they give you a free game of golf on each of your stays complete with your own golf cart. Lastly, that boat house!! While staying here you have the chance to relax by beautiful and clean Crystal Lake on Fern Hall's very own boat house. We chilled by here a couple of afternoons in the rocking chairs reading a book together while looking out across the lake. We also brought our bikes along with us on the trip - there's a nice secluded path along the lake that's about 3 miles around that's great for biking or walking around.

The on-site restaurant was also great and convenient for the nights where the wife and I wanted to have dinner but didn't feel like driving very far to eat somewhere. The waitress at the restaurant was also very friendly and accommodating.

All in all this place was fantastic. If you're looking for a romantic, peaceful, quiet place to stay that has a bit of history to it that won't cost you an arm and a leg, look no further than Fern Hall. Did I mention that this place was also the summer home for the Johnson & Johnson brothers? Cool bit of history.

Charming and peaceful Bed & Breakfast vacation!

If you're planning a wedding or other big event, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, try to work with Fern Hall. You can spend 3 months making multiple 2+ hour trips to try to meet with staff, management, and event planners, and every single time you do, you will receive conflicting information. You will have to ask over and over how much essentials like catering, cake, flowers, etc. will cost because you will hear something different each time, making it nearly impossible to plan or budget for. 
The turnover rate for their staff is astronomical because management is atrocious. They fired the wedding planner we initially met with and told us we were lucky to have an emailed receipt for our deposit, because those who paid her in cash would have no record of their booking and would essentially be screwed. 
Should you have questions, they will be happy to NEVER follow up with you - or if they do finally deign to come down from their pedestal when you mention you may have to look for another location, they will call you at night, in a huff, having reviewed absolutely none of your questions, snap that they can't deal with you, and hang up the phone.
If you thoroughly enjoy spending $1,000s of dollars in deposits to have no idea what is going on in the lead-up to your big day, by all means, try to work with Fern Hall. If you really like being treated like a burden by the management, definitely give them a shot. But if you like open communication and transparency, STEER CLEAR! A wedding is hard enough to organize without a whole facility's staff dragging you down too! 

Oh, and as an additional fun fact - if you leave a negative review on their facebook page stating the bad experience you encountered, they'll go right ahead and delete it. The whole place is extremely shady. DON'T GET STUCK WITH THEM.
