I stayed at this hotel for a quick trip to Phoenix. As an alumni, I wanted to support my school by staying at the hotel. The room was clean and the beds are comfortable. The hotel has a restaurant, coffee shop, bar and school store. The hotel is very closed to GCU campus. The rates are affordable and there is a security gate checking your parking tag. I really liked the security aspect of the hotel. Will stay again.

Clean and comfortable

This hotel is on the campus of Grand Canyon University, and their school colors are purple, black, and white.  Their mascot name is "Antelopes," commonly shortened to "Lopes."  If you are put off by the color purple, please don't stay here.  Personally, I love purple and was delighted with so much of it, even to the violet-colored mini fridge in the room.  It was great to have the convenience of a fridge and microwave.  The room was very clean.  The beds were terrific and we had a very good night's sleep.  Our room was as close to the street as you could get, and we heard no sirens or other loud noises, as mentioned by another reviewer, except when the dump truck emptied the dumpster next to our room, which was after 9 AM.  Everyone we encountered was cheerful, friendly, and very accommodating, from early check-in to returning our luggage cart when they saw me headed with it towards the return area.  The pool area is gorgeous, with plenty of shade coverings beside the pool, two waterfalls, and an ample size spa.  There are two fire pits in the pool area as well.  Wish we'd had more time here, but alas, we booked only one night.  We had a small issue with our TV when we checked in, and they were there to successfully fix it within minutes.  Same thing when we needed more coffee and cups.  We offered to come to the desk to get them, and they offered to bring them to us instead, and they came right away.  The grounds are beautiful.  The pool towels (purple, of course) were ample size, not like the postage-stamp size they have at some hotels for pool towels.  We didn't eat in the restaurant, so I can't comment on the food.  I loved being on campus with all the energy of the students.  It was also really nice to know that the entire campus is fenced, and in order to enter, we had to pass through a security gate.  So that made us feel very safe.  We will definitely stay here again.

Super Friendly and Safe

It is not the hotels fault, but if you are looking for a solid good nights sleep, this is not the place. All night long you hear sirens from emergency units and the hotel in general especially on the pool side is very noisy and doesnt close until 10pm. Rooms are comfortable and the restaurant and bar area is average. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for s quick noisy rest this is a good place. If you are in need  of rest and relaxation find another hotel.

Must like purple.

Had an awful stay here.  First of all, this is a 2 star motel all the way.  Don't be fooled by the fancy restaurant.  The rooms are outdoor motel style.  You can get a similar room in the surrounding area for under $80.  They are ripping off the students who stay here and their families - very sad!  Don't waste your time here...I have never seen a room as cheaply done as this one.  Let me hit the high points:

Entrance: Purple door and original 1970's windows don't block ANY noise.  Street noise, car noise, noise from your neighbors are all way more than you would expect.

Flooring: Uneven, stained, dirty and gross.  Can hear every footstep above.  

Beds: The room is so small it only fits two double beds.  Cheapest possible beds were noticeably low quality and uncomfortable.  Very odd choice of square pillows.

Lighting: The lighting is horrific even for a 2 star motel.  Three different color bulbs were used in the ratty old fixtures (warm white, neutral, and cool white - they just put in whatever they had.  Nothing matches.)

Bathroom: Tiny and dilapidated. Musty smell.   I didn't even know you could use the cheapest residential grade fixtures in a hotel, but they did.  Dim lighting.  Sink is outside the bathroom.  Bathtub chipped and stained. Lights are on motion sensors and turn off after ~15 minutes. Wanted to leave the bathroom light on during the night? Too bad!  

This place is maximizing profit at the expense of customers.  Wildly overpriced for the area and quality of the room.  I should have done more research before staying here.  I was up many times during the night due to noise from my neighbors.  They weren't doing anything loud, there is just ZERO soundproofing.  

Staff:  They think this is the Four Seasons and the price is based on a "price survey of the area".  Get real...this is a rebadged Days Inn.

I already got a refund from a manager but this place is SO bad, I had to say so.  I'm sure this manager will respond here and I don't care, I've said my piece.  If this place was priced appropriately or didn't mislead customers, I wouldn't have left a review.

Awful everything

I flew into Phoenix and stayed 1 night at this hotel. Everyone was pleasant and helpful, including the guard at the parking booth. I had breakfast in the dining area. Price, good and service was great. 

Clean & Safe

We stayed one night at Grand Canyon University Hotel and would certainly stay here again.  Very nice place to stay and low cost for a room.  Having the adjoining cafe and bar was a very nice perk also.  The pool area is absolutely beautiful!!  We would definately stay here again!!

Great Hotel!!

Average room. Clean. Good shower. Hot water was a little slow getting to the sink. Breakfast at the Canyon 49 restaurant was very good and reasonably priced plus 10% discount for hotel guests.
CON: directions to fitness center across from the hotel were inadequate. There appears to be a main entrance with four doors but go a little further south to the next door. Fitness center is loaded with equipment.
MAJOR CON #1: Hotel is way back from 27th and very hard to find. NO signage.
MAJOR CON#2: VERY LOUD NOISE at 3:20 AM and 4:00 AM. Sounded like trash pickup right outside the door…BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP plus scraping metal sounds. Try to avoid rooms near the south.

Average with some major CONS

This hotel is NOT 3.5 stars. It’s old and dingy. The rooms smell like cleaner and the windows will barely open. The pillows are also deceiving. The bathroom light does not go on without the fan. The sidewalks are filthy. The neighborhood is MAJORLY ghetto. Outside the campus was sketchy, for lack of a better word. The only reason I give it two stars is that my server at the “grill” was very nice. The food, however, was not good at all. Don’t serve calamari if you can’t cook it correctly. This is a 2.5 star hotel. I was so disappointed in the false representation. I won’t be back. 

NOT 3.5 Stars! 2.5 at best and in the ghetto!

The staff is very friendly and the food and drinks are great! The atmosphere is friendly and fun. I was there for a residency class and enjoyed meeting people from all over. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The maid staff was efficient and friendly. The pool and hot tub are fantastic. Overall a great place to stay.

The GCU Hotel is our hotel of choice anytime we are visiting our daughter in Phoenix.  The rooms are decorated well and always comfortable.  Canyon 49, the grill downstairs, is always great and the pool area is beautiful!  I always make our travel reservations well in advance to make sure we have a room at the GCU Hotel.
