While we were a bit nervous when we pulled up to the Hitching Horse - located on a busy highway across from a seedy motel, we ended up being quite pleased with our stay.  The room was comfortable (even if a smaller, Full-sized bed would have been a better fit for the room - and fewer pillows when there's nowhere to put them!) and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly.  Common areas pleasant.  And breakfast, ordered the night before, was delicious and served with coffee and juice.   Might have been helpful to have a way to contact hosts before arrival, but everything worked out fine.

A real B&B in an anonymous age

Love the character of the old house. The made-to-order breakfast omelets were amazing!  She makes the breakfast like my grandmother did.

Truly a friendly place to stay, and eat a GREAT breakfast!

I want you to seriously consider stepping outside of your routine & stay here. It’s not a Hampton Inn, and that’s FINE, because this place has a unique charm of its own! Deb, the owner, is friendly and genuinely makes one feel right at home. The room I stayed in was clean, quiet and very comfortable. In fact, the weather allowed me to sleep with the window open - unlike most hotels. The night air was awesome as I drifted off to the muted sounds of night birds. No issues at all - in fact, Deb will ask you “what do you want for breakfast !?” :-) 

A Great Find !

This is a very elegant B&B with four rooms in house and each with separate bathroom. We had a jacuzzi in our bathroom and that was very nice. The owner does a nice job running the establishment to keep guests comfortable. Breakfast was nice and so was the owner.

B&B in Vintage House

A B&B in a beautiful house with a wide front and back porch where you can sit. The living rooms and kitchen are on the ground floor. The lovingly decorated 4 rooms with good beds and very nice laundry are on the first floor. Each with its own bathroom. There is enough parking space in the house. Breakfast is included. You had to choose what you wanted to eat the night before and determine the time between 7 and 10 h. Unfortunately, this didn't work out. At the time of ordering, nothing had been prepared and it took a total of an hour until the morning was finally finished. The other guests also had to wait that long. It's not good to plan breakfast early. It was too early and rich with fruit, but it was even richer.

Beautiful B&B in a beautiful house and lovingly designed rooms

A fun place to stay. I liked the horse-themed decor . The breakfast was delicious with generous portions   I enjoyed seeing the prints by South Dakota artists Josh Spies and Terry Redlin.  Our room was small but OK for a one-night stay.

Love the decor!

Stumbled upon this place on line as I was looking for a pit stop while driving out West. 
Loved this place. Has a very Inn like feeling, if you know what I mean. Love the room, the decor and the hospitality. 
Fresh cooked breakfast felt like I was home.  
The highlight was the hospitality by the Inn keeper Deb. Lovely person that made my stay memorable. 
Will definitely stop by when I am driving back east
Bottom line: The place to stay when in Pierre.

If you want a change from the usual corporate hotel feel room, try the Hitching Horse Inn. It is a renovated old home with all today's conveniences. Bed was good. Shower was warm and wet. Breakfast made to order and eaten leisurely. Clean, comfortable, affordable and the horse themed interior decor made a nice change from the sterile motel furnishings. I was particularly taken with the old fashioned sexy leg lamp that sat proudly by the front window. A regret was not being able to use the balcony that lay outside our second floor bedroom. The floors upstairs were much easier to climb than many older homes.

Great Pierre Location

We only stayed one night as we were headed further west. The B&B is adorable and comfortable. We had a lovely dinner outside on the covered porch (take out) and the stay included a delicious cooked to order breakfast in the morning. The price was extremely reasonable. The room we had was small, but adequate for an overnight visit. If you book this property and stay longer you might want a larger room. 

Lovely B&B!

This hotel was a welcome haven after a long day's drive. As the photos indicate, it is a big old house converted to a hotel and the conversion has been well done. The property is maintained to a high standard and the interior decorations are interesting with a strong horse theme. Our room was clean and opened on to a large shared balcony on the second floor. (Note: there are no elevators in the hotel). There is a small do it yourself bar on the first floor that we enjoyed visiting. Breakfast was in the old dining room and was delicious. We enjoyed meeting some of the other guests and the proprietor is friendly and helpful. The immediate neighborhood has nothing much of interest but is safe and it's an easy drive to downtown where there are decent restaurants. This hotel is good value for money. Would definitely stay here again.
