Black Bear Chalet on Morritz dr. Average cabin…a little TLC goes a long way. Needs a few new dishes and deco.  Kitchen appliances worked but bare minimum stock. Liked the view from living room. Sunrise was beautiful. Needed a deep clean…and a few repairs. One of the  Tile upstairs loose and almost fell on it. No toilet paper holder, trash can, or towel racks upstairs bath. Shower was nice. Didn’t have a fitted sheet on bed was top sheet so a little annoying. Overall average.Cobbky knob personnel  not very friendly either. Please know you need 4 wheel drive and the drive isnt for the faint of heart.

Be careful to check your receipt after you leave.  These people are cheats !  Charged us for damage that we were not responsible for and even reported to the office the day we checked in.  Never informed us in any way just added it to the bill and sent an email receipt that one of our group happened to catch.  Otherwise we would not have known.  Cheats!  Is all I have to say.  Cabins have a long history of being poorly maintained on several review sites.  Better Business Bureau grade F.  I wish I had read reviews before renting, now that you’ve read this one, don’t make the same mistake I did.  rent from somebody else.  

Dishonest Renters

UPDATE:  Cobbly Nob Rentals doubled their cancellation policy charge from 10% of a 50% deposit as notated on their website to 10% of the entire rental per the email they just sent us.  Have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and a dispute with our bank.  We have time and date stamped screen shots of everything.

This is a complete scam.  BBB rates Cobbly Nob Rentals with an “F”, apparently with good reason.  Do some research and read other reviews before using these people, we never will. VRBO is a much better bet.

Original post follows.  Photos show cabin we rented for the dates we rented with Cobbly Nob cancellation language.  Shame there is no way to do no stars…..

We have reservations for August, it is May, for a one bedroom cabin.  We just tried to cancel…. here is Cobbly Nob’s cancellation policy from their website:

Our Cancellation Policy
50% of the total is Due upon Booking
1-2 bedrooms: 14 days prior to the arrival date you will lose 10% of your deposit and a $22.55 reservation fee. If you cancel within the 14 days you forfeit your entire deposit.

The lady that answered the phone told me they always charge 10% of the entire rental, so twice their policy, and no one complains.  Her supervisor is not available. The owner is not reachable.  She refused to follow their own policy and refund our 50% deposit less 10% of the deposit and a $22.50 cancellation fee.  She told me she was sorry I was confused - I am not - and that I was unprofessional…… OK.

We filed a Better Business Bureau complaint.  But this is just wrong.  Follow your own policy Cobbly Nob Rentals!

Cobbly Nob Cancellation Fraud!

Went on mens retreat with 7 men over the age of 60.  Upon returning home our credit card was charged for damages.  When I contacted the office they told nothing but lies.  One picture they sent us of the damage was a gash on the pool table.  The same gash was posted on their website advertising the cabin.  Pic (below). These are very dishonest people, and what they call damage charges, I call stealing.

BEWARE! Do yourself a favor and read the recent reviews on Trip Advisor and Google. They all involve problems with different cabins and a lack of help from management. Clearly Cobbly Nob has gone way down hill and is now run by scam artists! Such a disappointment.

We have been renting from Cobbly Nob from over 30 years and just returned from a trip. We will never rent from them again as they have charged our credit card for things that we did not authorize such as a $95 for a 'broken filter' on a hot tub that we never used (it was in the 80-90 degrees while we were there so we most certainly were not using the hot tub). Despite numerous calls and emails, they are refusing to give us our money back. In addition, they charge for a cleaning fee, but make you do all of the cleaning. When we arrived at Moonshine Memories, the cabin was not clean, particularly in the kitchen and under the beds. There were glasses in the kitchen cabinet with lipstick marks and a lack of kitchen utensils so we were unable to cook. The bed sheets were old and yellow.

Upon checking the Better Business Bureau, Cobbly Nob had 1/5 and multiple complaints. Spend your money elsewhere at a much more friendly, reputable, and reliable rental agency as Cobbly Nob has turned into a scam!

Enjoyed the view and the secluded place.  Nice little cabin. Over all clean and ready to rent. Needed a little TLC. The blinds were missing or dented. Also the fan in the downstairs shower needs cleaning and return vents. Also you might want to get the cabin checked for mice as we had some food nibbled on.

Amazing Point of View Cabin in Cobbly Knob

We will come back because it's a lovely cabin with a gorgeous view!  Very serene and peaceful!  Great space.  Comfortable bedding and furniture.   Equipped with the basics. But...Please Repair/Replace the porch planks/boards. Both of us at different times stepped through a plank at different spots on the deck... as one of us stepped out of the hot tub, and again as one of us approached the entrance to the cabin.  The living room, downstairs bedroom, and kitchen might benefit from having some area rugs as the cabin is dog-friendly and rugs could help prevent injury.  Also, the cookware ought to be updated. We used a fry pan and a small pot. A bunch of black stuff (coating from the cookware?) cooked into our food and the food had to be discarded.  Property management was attentive to our concerns about the porch wood and assured us the cabin owner would be advised.  She asked if either of us needed to go to the doctor or if we end up needing to, to let them know, which is very kind of her.   Overall it was a lovely getaway with nice accomodations; just needs some attention and TLC. We appreciate Cobbly Nob; we've stayed at their cabins 3 times and will continue. Thank you!

Greenbrier at Cobbly Nob, Gatlinburg, TN

The view was amazing which is why it got a star. We walked in and there were dead roaches on the floor. We cook for our family and pots/pans had missing handles and burnt food. Dishes had food on them. We bought stuff and left it at the cabin so the next visitors would have stuff to use. I remember coming to these cabins as a kid and wanted my kids to have the experience but we won’t be staying here again.

Since 1997 I’ve booked vacations, a honeymoon and birthday celebrations with Cobbly Nob. 
Our latest online booking was more than 30 days in advance for a special weekday birthday vacation. We arrived to find the cabin occupied even though we checked in with the office and were given the cabin address and lock code to enter the premises. 
We were offered the cabin next door and were given the lock code to enter the cabin. Upon entry we saw luggage, shoes and an open bottle of wine on the kitchen counter. I was scared and  grateful the occupants were not there. 
No explanation was given other than a double booking had occurred and that, “this never happens”. 
RENTER BEWARE!! You could have an unwelcome person gain access to your cabin and/or experience a double booked vacation rental.

We stayed at Old Glory. On the surface it was clean: floors, bathrooms, kitchen. Bed comfortable and clean. But it needs a deep clean. Artificial flowers, other knick-knack need a cleaning.. If you're going to display so much stuff it should be clean. One lady had all she could do to take take some of the artificial flowers a good cleaning. Stove hood and vent needed a serious cleaning.
