Best I can say is at least there weren’t bed bugs. Uncomfortable beds, furniture that would give secondhand a bad name, flimsy curtains, and owner issued another person our room key. Person opened door at 1:30 am. No apology from owner until I mentioned it on checkout.

Last resort motel

AC didn't work, silverfish crawling on walls, bathroom floor, my bed, curtains wouldn't cover the entire window, no wifi.  The MotherLode Motel or National 9 are better choices.  No pool here.  Faces highway 50, super noisy.  Nothing to eat or drink within walking distance.

stay somewhere else

We have been booked to stay here for a weekend, in October, for the past 6 years. Out of those 6 years they have cancelled our reservations at the very last minute twice. One time we ended up having to stay about 45 mins away. They did it to us again this past weekend but we were lucky enough to get another reservation in town. I do like this place, very clean and quite.

Have a back-up plan

The room was outfitted satisfactorily.  There was a refrigerator and a 4-cup coffee pot (which was small for me).  The location of the very full dumpster, 2 doors down, was unpleasant and smelly.  There was construction on the property at the time of our visit.

We stayed here for one night when traveling through the area.  It is what you might expect from a motel, but has some recent renovations.  The bathroom is big and the shower is new and clean.  The shower tap was labeled backwards (hot is cold and cold is hot) in our room and the fan didn’t work.  You can hear noise from the freeway and it was $157 a night which seems kinda steep for a motel, but we needed to get some sleep and didn’t have much time to shop around.  Very clean.

Good motel

The room was in the back and while it was big it was run down.  The toilet leaked, the paint was pealing, the door handle almost fell off in my hands, the curtain was coming off the hook.  They told me 10.00 for the dog and charged me 15.  Charged a deposit and I stood there to make sure they reversed it the next morning. The WIFI was a joke. Worst motel I have ever stayed in.

Yikes-Avoid at all costs.

Beware of the Gold Trail Motor Lodge. Read these reviews carefully. You'll note that it is owned by the same couple that owns the nearby Mother Lode Motel. Many reviews have commented on questionable cleanliness and rudeness on the part of the owner. My wife and I lost $104.50 to him when we had to cancel a reservation because of a death in the family of the people we were visiting. I gave the hotel four days -- that was the day the death occurred -- and the hotel kept the entire amount, even though it later rented that room and thus was paid twice for it. When I told the owner I was considering taking him to Small Claims Court, he said -- really -- "make my day." You'll note I'm not the only one to comment on his inability to deal with guests in a civilized manner.

Rude, unpleasant owners who will rip you off.

When we weren't prepared to pay the rate at the chain hotel in town, we checked out the local owners and found this very nice little motel.  Although the room was small, it was VERY CLEAN and well appointed.  The owners were so nice and made us feel right at home.  They don't serve breakfast but they did have coffee and pastries for the road.  We would recommend this motel and definitely stay there again.

Quiet, clean little motel

So apparently the people who own or run Gold Trail also own or run the Mother Lode which is basically just down the road. They must only have a real office at the Mother Lode because there was a note on the door instructing guests to go to the Mother Lode to check in. Following this, we had to drive back to Gold Trail and wait for "the husband" to bring us a key. The room was very small and poorly furnished but close inspection revealed that it was actually pretty clean. It is located outside of the town of Placerville but it's only maybe a 7 -10 minute drive into town. We were there for a wedding so just wanted a place to change clothes and sleep. The bathroom is very small, the bed unfortunately has an actual blanket and bedspread not encased in a duvet or anything that you could believe gets washed all of the time, one bedside table, a small TV with a refrigerator underneath and a wall heater that blows you out of the room on low. There's really no landscaping so it looks pretty desolate. When we got back from the wedding it was late and we all swore it looked like the Bates Motel from Psycho! There were some late revelers and we did get a call saying that someone complained about the noise but we said we were asleep (we were) and we were left alone after that. I do think they tried to charge us twice for both rooms so watch the charges carefully.

The rooms are clean and yet very clean; it has a TV, fridge and micro, air conditioning. No is the nearest motel to placerville but the quality is perfect price. I recommend it 100%.
