Stayed in the Boathouse Cottage for a long weekend anniversary getaway and it was perfect. Beautifully landscaped property with hummingbirds regularly visiting the many flowering plants. We sat outside several times and enjoyed the sounds of birds and ocean waves from the cove. 

The Boathouse Cottage was small and cozy, a great fit for a couple or person traveling alone. The cottage was sparkling clean, and the bed was very comfortable. There is a full jacuzzi tub and a small patio with a beautiful view overlooking Point Arena Cove. Limited in-room amenities, but there is a great coffee shop and store, Cove Coffee, a short walk away with very friendly staff. 

From here we visited the lighthouse and Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands and it's a beautiful part of the California Coast. Photos of the property and cottages when it was a Coast Guard rescue station are on display at the Point Arena Lighthouse Museum, very cool to see the history of the place. 

Overall excellent experience, beautiful quiet location in a great small town, friendly locals, and easy access to many parts of the Mendocino Coast. We look forward to coming back for another romantic getaway in the Boathouse Cottage, or with the family in the Cypress Cottage.

Boathouse Cottage anniversary getaway

Personally, this was 5 stars, but I worry that folks expecting the Ritz will freak, so I took one off.  This is no longer a B&B, no worries, there's a wonderful coffee shop down the hill, a bakery in town, markets, lots of options.  The owners leave coffee, tea and milk to get you by.
We stayed in Cypress and loved it.  Beautiful view of the cove from the bed, comfortable, clean, everything you could want.  We stayed two days and could have easily stayed a week.
This is a sweet place if you are traveling with kids as there's a 2n bedroom in Cypress.  Lots to explore within walking distance, or jump in the car and hit Bowlingball Beach.  It's all wonderful.

Historic Charm

Our room was very large and comfortable. The staff were pretty much non-existent. Breakfast was nothing amazing although the baked goods were nice. The reason for giving 3.5 starts is mostly due to location. I think Point Arena in its self is not the most "quaint" city town along the 1. You can do much better.
The Inn is located near the local fishing launch/dock. There are some very questionable looking characters hanging around and the bar/restaurant is a total dive. There is no place else to walk too,  no nice beach or shops. We spent most of our time driving away from the Inn itself.
I also thought this place was pricey. I think we paid about $200 a night for simple B&B. The historical aspect of this place is cool but overall it was just okay.  Won't be back.

I would rate as 3.5

Very enjoyable B & B.  Lovely cooked breakfast, very nice spacious room.  Great location next to the small harbor.  Not much sun on our visit though.  Pleasant owners.  We would come again.  A little expensive 

First time in Point Arena

We had 3 very quiet nights with excellent breakfasts every morning with a wide variety of other travelers.  If you want break from TV, radio, phones,  and noise, this is the inn for you.  Like a few other reviewers, I might of liked seeing the hosts a bit more than when I checked in and briefly at breakfast.  Maybe an evening check-in 7-9pm would of been nice.  Outside stairs and banister could use some repair, but inside was nicely maintained.  We had brought our own wine and wine glasses were provided for us.  Inn very clean and bed very comfy.
