I stayed at Tarpon Inn for 2 nights this spring during SandFest, and I was traveling solo. I really loved the property and my room. So many beautiful historic details remain, but my room had just the right amount of modern touches. If you're looking for a completely modern room layout, this might not be what you're looking for, but I loved it.

My favorite part of the property was the porch and courtyard area out back. I sat out there with a magazine both nights, it was so delightful and relaxing. There was live music as well, I also loved that.

Parking was easy, there are spaces on either side of the hotel. Plenty of restaurants in easy walking distance. Ferry is a short drive away.

Charming historic property

My brother his wife and my wife had reservations for two nights. The first night we had no problems. We got up the next morning and wanted to take a shower and clean up before we meet up with friends and family for breakfast. We had no hot water in either room.  We reported the problem to the office and they could not fix the problem. We left water running for over an hour in the bathroom sink and shower. We requested a refund for the one day and was told they could not honor our request and that the manager would get back to us in 3 days. 
The manager did call my brother and told him “No Refunds are Allowed”. after he mentioned the problem of not providing hot water, the manager told him the hotel was without hot water for 3 days and hung up on him.
An argument can be made that a person could live without taking a shower for a day — but that argument can be countered by the fact that a hot shower is an expectation and essential to the experience of staying in a hotel room, for which you paid as part of the room rate. Other than home, a hotel room is the one place where you can take your time in the shower or bathtub without feeling rushed. 
I wrote a letter to the owner outlining the problem of no hot water and requesting a refund. I have yet to hear back from the owner and never did receive a call from the manager. Beware-Never again, a big rip off place. Very Poor Customer Service to customer complaints. OWNER DOESN’T CARE! 


No Hot Water-No Response from Owner

Of all the options for staying in Port Aransas the Tarpon Inn is definitely in our top three. It is a beautiful historical structure facing the water with a lovely upper and lower deck where you can enjoy some time to relax. There’s a courtyard in back which leads to the fantastic Roosevelt’s restaurant, as well as a separate cocktail lounge. In addition to those options, it is convenient to walk or cycle to other restaurants, shops, and of course, the beach.
The accommodations do leave a bit to be desired. We’ve stayed there a few times, and the queen room has only one night stand and lamp. So, as a couple, it’s not ideal. There’s no coffee pot in the room, but there is coffee downstairs in the lobby. Though the staff is very friendly, they don’t seem very familiar with the amenities, activities, or establishments visitors might be seeking even though the front desk agent we spoke to had grown-up there.
There are chairs in the room to relax, however, no tea table to rest your drink, book, etc. There was a beautiful wardrobe, but no bar or hangers for your clothing, just one stubborn drawer at the bottom. 
We prefer to go in the off-season when things are quieter, but there hasn’t yet been enough hot water during our visit in winter to fill up the bathtub. However, once the pipes heat up a hot shower is easily enjoyable. Perhaps these are just the inconveniences of a historical building. It’s a very charming inn with a terrific location, and we will certainly return. 

Charming & convenient to dining, shops, beach.

Our room was quaint - a bit worn, but very clean.  The wind howled through our door all night and did interfere with a good night’s sleep.  Bed was a bit soft and pillows a bit flat.  We enjoyed a nightcap at the newly opened Roosevelt - a welcoming spot with a neighborhood pub vibe - a nice alternative to the beach bar scene.

Charming and clean

This was an incredible restaurant. Small, intimate with amazing food equal to a 5* in the big city. Service was excellent. It is expensive but worth the price. Be sure and get the bread pudding it is to die for!! 

Exceptional Restaurant - Tarpon Inn

Our third stay here. As always we enjoyed sitting outside on the porch relaxing and unwinding while watching the world go by. Historic hotel with unique rooms. Our friends rented the FDR suite and it was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. 

Perfect porch perch

Fine dining and historic inn less than a mile from the pier and beach. Good for families looking to spend quality time together without modern distractions. Cool off in the pool and relax on the patio rocking chairs.

Weekend beach getaway

In "COVID" time, we were not sure what to expect at the Tarpon.  Stayed here for 2 nights and what a great experience.  1st off, the Customer Service was WAY beyond my expectations.  Stassi (sp?) in the front was friendly, accommodating and responsive to any of our needs.   The other ladies were also kind and friendly.  We were even provided a can of Off, from a personal stash (which you will need!!).   The restaurant is nice, and food was great.  I am a vegan, so there was only one option for me.  The chef made it to perfection and it was delicious.   There was plenty of sanitizer, room was clean and the property was a nice walk to the beach.

Old Charm in a New Way of living

We visited the Tarpon Inn and stayed 3 nights in the FDR suite for Spring Break 2020. It was more of an apartment than a suite with a nice living room, complete with flat screen TV, huge bedroom with attached bath and roomy private balcony, fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, toaster, oven, sink, refrigerator, microwave and all the dishes and pots and pans anyone could reasonably use. There was also a very nice breakfast room. The hotel is obviously quite old but incredibly charming. The staff was friendly and helpful with everything and we had an amazing dinner (they even cooked the red fish  our son had caught that day and served it blackened as we requested!) at Roosevelt's - the hotel restaurant. The pool area was also very nice and as it turned out we had the place mostly to ourselves. Would definitely return- this hotel is a real Texas treasure!!!

What a wonderful, historic hotel!

If you are looking for nostalgia and history, the Tarpon Inn is a must place to stay on your small historical places list. Franklin D. Roosevelt stayed at the Tarpon Inn during a trip to Port Aransas on his presidential yacht The Potomac. All 24 rooms open onto a shady porch where you can sit in a rocking chair and watch the golf carts go by to the beach. Restaurants, shop, the Port Aransas Ferry, Port Aransas Beach and fishing plus kayaking trails are near by. There is wifi, but the typical amenities like TV and coffee aren't available in most of the rooms. There is coffee served  in the office after 8:15 on the morning.
