This chain isn't my 1st or 2nd choice but Portsmouth, NH is an expensive place. And I'd never think to spend over $200 for 1 night. But w/low expectations it was surprising acceptable. The ac unit worked & was quiet. I couldn't hear the compressor cycling on & off which is very disruptive when one's trying to sleep. It was white noise similar to my air purifier at home. I prefer the non-carpeted floor but still wore flip-flops; the floor did need mopping. The bed was firm and comfortable so I slept well. Yes, I could occasionally hear other guests in the hallway but my corner unit was fairly isolated at the same time close to the elevator so there you go. There's laundry room but I didn't need it. The place could use deep-cleaning and they have no recycling bins anywhere on the premises; I asked. The staff was nice.

Pleasantly surprised

Starting with 5 stars- removed 1 for the price.  $250/night is way too expensive for no frills bare bones- regardless of season or location.  Second star removed for rude front desk audibly making fun of guests last name.  (Seriously?  Grow up child.)  Third star gone for bathroom electrical no longer working overnight.  Fourth star removed for (again) rude front desk & not allowing more than 30 minutes late checkout after giving Motel 6 our time to repair the dark bathroom electrical while we waited.  Couldn’t remove the 5th star, so that will remain for being pet friendly & providing poop bags…….how appropriate.  Avoid.

Avoid

Puts a whole new meaning to bare frills. Room was tiny, mattress was too soft. no safe, fridge or coffee maker. Bring your own soap, shampoo & hair dryer.  We stayed 2 days & the room was never cleaned, bed not made. Our room was very noisy. We could hear the people above us walking around and the people next door talking. Carpet in hallway & elevator smelled musty with a slight aroma of animal urine. It did have free parking. 

A place to avoid

Understanding that this is a cheaper hotel, I didn’t expect a 5 star accommodation, but I did expect a clean place. My room wasn’t noticeably horrendous. However, my bathroom was TERRIBLE! They allow animals, I did not have one. My bathroom smelled like animal urine to the point of making me sick. There were hairs in my bathtub. My sink didn’t drain. I would not recommend. 

Gross! 

Very bare-bones room. No coffee maker, hair dryer, shampoo/conditioner, or refrigerator. Only 2 pillows, no bedspread and only one thin blanket. We chose this motel because we were traveling with 2 dogs and there is no extra fee for pets. Other than both of us needing to show ID, check-in was easy. Our room was near an exit, making it easy to take the dogs out, except you can only re-enter via the front door. Convenient parking near our room. The lobby did have free coffee, and vending machines with snacks. Room was quiet and comfortable, except that I was a bit chilly and would have like another blanket. 

Best deal for those traveling with pets but bare-bones accommodations. 

My husband & I stayed here the last weekend in September.  It was exceptionally chilly. I had booked 3 nights, but checked out the first morning. When I told the front desk that I couldn't get the heat to turn on in our room when we checked in, after several complaints I was finally told that the heat wouldn't be turned on in the hotel until October. I asked for a portable heater & was told the ones they did have were already being used. I asked for blankets; the desk guy checked in the laundry room, but there were only dirty ones there. I asked him to check unoccupied rooms for one; the first room wasn't even cleaned yet, the 2nd room brought out 2 blankets. I told him I'd take 1 so that someone else could have one, too.  It was so cold that I had to fill the bathtub with hot water just to use the facitities!
Even worse, when I told the front desk in the morning that the smoke alarm in the ceiling was pulled way down & covered with a plastic bag, the woman said that "if it bothered me", I could change rooms.  I told her I'd rather just check out & never return.

Never again

This was the first time I ever considered leaving and staying somewhere else.  I expected bare bones but didn't feel safe here -- broken down cars in the parking lot, graffiti in the elevator, back door (was told it was locked at all times - exit only) propped open.  I don't know how to say this and be politically correct but definitely some sketchy looking people hanging around the parking lot and in the lobby.  Strong smell of cigarette smoke throughout the motel, although no odor in the room.  However.  I did stay and it was okay -- surprisingly quiet at night.  The room had some questionable stains on the bedding but otherwise was clean.  I appreciated no carpet in the room.  The location was actually very convenient for a traveler with lots of shops and food choices within a minute or two drive.  The front desk staff was helpful and friendly, but I would not stay here again.

You can hear the  same noise from the trucks that you listen to from the building systems. And the service from the staff inspired the naming of the infection!!
And now they require that I write more to satisfy the review?

Sleep in your car!!

This hotel was very clean, quiet, and a great deal. It is not too far from the main drag into downtown Portsmouth. It can be a little tricky with traffic, but once you find the back entrance near the bed bath and beyond store, it is really easy. I didn’t hear a peep all night. Very clean and neat.

Clean and close to downtown

The room was clean (I think I like the no carpet, it's cleaner).  The front desk person was helpful and patient.  Parking well lit, lots of nearby restaurants (we went to Olive Garden).  If I had to critique it, the shower head is really too low flow.  They did provide bars of soap, but no shampoo.  Good security, only entry via front desk.  I'd stay again.  Oh, the a/c, tv, etc all worked fine.  Pool looked like it had not been open in a long time.
