Stayed here over Thanksgiving '21 and really enjoyed ourselves.  Funky historic building, carefully restored.  We stayed in the room that Washington used (#2; we'll buy.  the placed seemed pretty serious about its history).    Immaculately clean and fresh: the room lacked that slightly shabby "I've been painted too many times" aura you get often with these ancient places.  Fun period furniture. Some authentic antiques, I think.  Very nice.   Nice meal rooms, and excellent included breakfast.   Dinners were good, with some items being excellent, others adequate.   Service cheery and efficient, especially considering staffing struggles everywhere.  Great access to various wonderful outdoor things on the Delmarva - made a good base for day outings.

The hotel is quaint, clean and has a great "no charge" breakfast in the tavern.  However due to staffing issues we arrived to a locked up and darkened hotel!  Only because the young dishwasher was leaving were we able to figure out how to get in to a "prepaid " room.  Not even a nightlight was on in the lobby and we used our phones to see.  The keys to entire building and our room were in a lock box on outside of building was what we found out due to young employees actions of calling the management. I left a note ( nobody at desk at checkout) about this situation and have never been contacted. I sent a formal letter asking for some resolution and heard nothing.  BEWARE... management should have called or texted us when they left the hotel unattended and dark.  There is no excuse for this treatment and refusal to  acknowledge it.

High expectation fell short due to nightmare at check-in!

I was a guest here with my church staff for a staff retreat and it was a spectacular experience. The rooms were clean, had sophisticated air conditioning, and had everything you’d expect in a nice hotel, although this is an inn. The staff were professional, courteous, and generous with their time and energy, making sure that everyone was settled even though some of us (myself included) arrived later than they initially expected. The food was incredible! I’m not a big fan of salmon but ordered it to eat something healthy and I cleaned my plate. Everyone on my team was blown away with the experience and I think that it was the perfect place to rejuvenate and recenter ourselves mentally and emotional after a very trying year. I would absolutely recommend this place for churches/businesses who are looking a for retreat in a town where they can escape the intense energy of city life. The Washington Inn deserves all the praises it gets

Church Staff Retreat Experience

We stayed for the weekend during graduation; a pleasant alternative to a chain hotel. The room, #2, is reported to have been occupied by George Washington. The tavern was nice and dinner was great. Our bartender, Hanah, was our server too, and she did a great job. Squeekies Diner, across the street, was nice for breakfast too.

I stayed two nights at the Washington Inn. Indeed parking and Wi-fi were free.
Breakfast on Sunday morning was included in the cost of the room and served at the Inn. A voucher was provided for breakfast on Monday morning at a cafe across the street from the Inn.

My sisters and I had dinner at the Inn one night, and we each enjoyed our meals.

Mother's Day weekend stay

The room was pretty nice. We had the king size room. Very comfortable. Don’t stay here for the breakfast. Sundays breakfast was cooked at the inn and was ok, the rest of the days they send you across the street to the so called diner. I can get a better breakfast at McDonalds. They only offer egg patties that are reheated and not cooked fresh. C’mon, how hard is it to cook an egg?  The other choices were extremely limited. Would I stay here again?  Likely not.

Don’t stay here for the breakfast

Hello....I normally don't review inns where I have stayed but was really disappointed with this one.  First of all, when we arrived (after hours, granted) there was no one to greet us and the lobby was pitch dark...could barely find our hotel key which was left on the front desk....what front desk??...I can't find it!!   Kind of a safety hazard as the floors are uneven with many "step-ups and step-downs" to be on the watch for.  Once you find your room the room is quaint but cold (the thermostat didn't seem to be the best) and the bed....most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on.  We required a cot as well and that was just as uncomfortable. We also wanted extra blankets  but no staff around.  And to add to all of this..the tavern/restaurant part was only open for breakfast...closed for the week for all dinners!!  (COVID-related??)   And yes, we, like a previous reviewer, had to experience the next door fire station alarm going off at 4AM (but had been warned about that so I'll give the management a break on that one).  Overall 3  out of 5...no more...no less.

Not really worth the money.

Not worth the risk of an alarm going off in the middle of the night right in your ear.
Room is too small for a large king size bed which was hard and uncomfortable. Staff is unfriendly. Everything is slow. This room has felt claustrophobic. The food is average. The staff is quite unfriendly I don’t know if that’s because of Covid or if they are usually that way. I would not recommend staying here.

Our rooms were extremely clean,  comfortable and included Aveeda shampoo, soap and body wash (nice touch!) The tavern offered an outstanding burger as well as a delicious breakfast (omelet with home fries!), included in the rate. Very courteous service, and friendly staff. Plus it’s historic and quaint...just a wonderful experience.  

Great Food & Accommodations 

This was my first trip back to The Inn for a meal since Covid-19 shut down everything.  There's a new chef and I hadn't met him, but I had heard good things. Turns out the good things I'd heard were understated. There were three of us and all three meals were perfectly wonderful. I especially enjoyed the chef's version of a crab cake. No Old Bay detected, but it was EXCELLENT. Huge and made  mostly with lump meat. The new chef has added homemade ice cream to the menu and the coconut/chocolate chip frozen concoction was DElicious. Service was good from a masked Linda, and the chef came out to greet us after dinner. It was another fine meal at The Washington Inn and Tavern. Can't wait to go back for more of the new chef's creations!

I did not travel TO the Inn for this dinner. I live in the town (grew up there) and take every opportunity to visit the classy historic site. I ALWAYS recommend it to visitors as a B & B and as the best place to  in town to eat.
