This was my first time staying at the Gifford House, and I must say that it was an enjoyable experience! First, it is in a great location and quite central to the main shopping and eating establishments in Ptown. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and upgraded. Staff there on site were knowledgeable and friendly. Prior to my stay, communication with the hotel manager (Hannah) was first-rate and all questions were answered. Porch Bar was fun as always! 

I know that there's been quite a bit of upgrading, remodeling, and expansion of the complex, and when finished, it will be quite the destination! Definitely would stay there again.

Great Rooms and Location

My wife and I wanted to stay at the newly renovated Gifford House and had high hopes. Where as they did some much needed updates to the rooms and the bed was comfortable, they really need to work on basic customer service. When I booked I only needed a one night stay, so I emailed them to ensure that this wouldn't be a problem and was told it wasn't. We checked in and everything was fine, checked out in the morning as planned and moved into our rental house for the week. Two days later I get an additional charge for 2 additional nights. I assume that this was simply a mistake and walked up from our rental house to talk to the front desk to get this corrected. This is where the trouble truly began. I was told that the person who could handle this wasn't in and they would text him (not call him), I was patient and left awaiting a call back that never came. So I called beck the next day and they told me that I must have changed my reservation and that's why I was charged for the additional nights. (I did not do this) So I then had to dispute the charge with the credit card company, who then took over my complaint. It was only after this that they refunded the money to me, but still never a call to simply apologize for the trouble. I don't ask for a lot, but simply owning a mistake shouldn't be too much to ask. Be warned before staying here, the new owners seem unwilling to simply do the basic things when it comes to running a business.  

Disapointed

I know that the Gifford House is under new ownership so I was prepared to be generous with my review - until I could not get ice at 4 PM. Really? I know that this is a mixed entertainment venue and inn, but if you are going to run an inn, do it right. Staff should be available 24/7. Buy an ice machine for guests. Answer text messages! Serve drinkable coffee, and if you advertise continental breakfast on your website, serve it or change what's online.

Otherwise, once we realized that our room was in a part of the inn that isn't yet renovated, things were okay. Our room was definitely outdated but the sheets were clean and the towels are nice, and the housekeeping staff was friendly and helpful. Place could use more outdoor seating that isn't right next to an ashtray for guests that like to read or work online while seated on the porch or in the garden. Might consider opening one of the bars mid-day.

We did see one of the renovated rooms, which was beautiful. If the rest of the property gets similar treatment and a few other changes are made, the Gifford House could be one of the better places to stay in P-town.

Improvements needed

If you like to stay where the life of the party this is the place for you. Step back in time and enjoy a historic inn with all the modern conveniences. Just a short walk from commercial Street.  We stayed in both a king room and queen room and I would recommend either. They were both comfortable and recently renovated. make sure to check out club Purgatory as a guest you get in for free. The night we went they had an underwear party. 

The employee and owner are very friendly and accommodated all our needs.

Historic inn, life of the party

I truly loved my stay at the Gifford House, which boasts a history of over 200 years old.  This new iteration of the Gifford House may just be it’s best.  Under new ownership, it has morphed into an underground, hip, and stylish property that does not give a F***; it is a Queer MUST.  Not only is the staff, the prettiest in Ptown, it’s also the nicest.  Staying at GH, also gets you free entry & skip-the-line access to Purgatory, which has also gone through a renovation.  Parties at Purgatory like Fagbash & the Underwear Party are sexy and sultry, focused on amazing music and a no-attitude vibe.  When you enter the charming lobby, you’ll notice a grand piano and amazing art from local artists & photographers like Cassandra Complex, Zach Oren, Sam Waxman, and Shaan Treadwell.  After checking-in, I attempted to lug 4 suitcases to my annex room (I overpack), when the nicest & kindest man, offered to help; turns out it was Steve Azar, Owner & Proprietor.  Porch bar, which is just off the lobby, is the new hang-out for locals & visitors to Provincetown – the Gliteratti have arrived!   Aside from being a fun and sexy place to stay, it also has the BEST beds; I am a troubled sleeper with very specific mattress needs, and GH has, by far, the best beds I have slept in, at the Cape.  One of my very favorite things about GH, is that it is Queer owned & operated.  I take pride in spending my Pink Dollars wisely – and focus on supporting members of my community.  Thank You Steve & everyone at Gifford House for an incredible stay – I will certainly be back!

Everything Old is New!

The Gifford House has a new management and the owner Steven and his team made my stay a great experience. The location in Cetral Ptown is great.The rooms are being upgraded and they look amazing! My  bed was so comfortable !The Porch was my favorite place for morning coffee or an afternoon drink.The staff, although family would be a better description , were alway looking out for me and seeing if I needed anything. Bravo Jennifer, Bob, Kevin, Brad, James etc. I will definitely be back.

The Gifford House-A New Era

I have stayed here a couple times over the years, it has been a clean, comfortable, and CHEAP hotel...that is about to change...they sold the place and are in the middle of renovating it. While looking at the rooms for the summer I noticed the rates have quadrupled since last year! Yes, it was an old hotel and upgrades are nice, but....it sucks their are no reasonably price places to stay anymore. I very much doubt I will go back there.

We spent a great 3 nights here in May 2022. Gifford House is a lovely old hotel with an interesting history. It is also very reasonably priced given its location just off the main street . Staff were very friendly and the bar is a great place to hang out in the evenings, especially if you get to spend time with the bar man Tom! Thanks very much.

Great Value Hotel in Central Provincetown

While visiting friends in Maine in mid-August I decided to try to make my next stop P-town.  Nothing was available for under $400 with parking provided until a hurricane was predicted for NY area ... suddenly there were many cancellations and a wide variety of accommodations available.   I was pleased with the place - very well kept and my 2nd floor room was surprisingly large.  Gifford House is a classic hotel - none of that fancy new-fangled stuff like an elevator ... it's only a 2 story building.  Staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was the usual "continental".  I was pleased with the Town mandate for inside masking and saw 100% compliance - I will stay again.

Unfortunately we stayed during the COVID-19 plague, so we were prepared for the restrictions set by the MA government.  That aside, the Inn was nice, with a very colonial feeling.  We got a good deal just before Labor Day, probably due to the lack of tourists...although, oddly enough, many places displayed No-Vacancy--maybe to reduce capacity???  Any way, we weren't very excited by our room.  No elevator in the inn and we were placed on the 2nd floor...which was really the 3rd counting the lobby floor. A total of 44 stairs to get to our room from the street.  My husband has a bad knee, so that wasn't very pleasant.  Our room had no A/C...don't know how people stay there in July & August??  Room was tiny but clean--I kept banging into a chair placed right by the bathroom and had no place else to move it.  Had it not rained 1 day, we probably wouldn't have missed having no TV either.  Basically, it's a place to change, shower and sleep.  Like every bar in Ptown, you had to order food to have a few drinks...at least the attached bar offered $2.00 sandwiches to get around ordering an expensive app or dinner.  There was a small area in the backyard to sit, although it was rather unkept and on a hill.  We tried to have a drink there and read a little, but found it pretty uncomfortable.  Some rooms had A/C's in the windows, but they looked rather old and rusty...couldn't tell you if they worked or not.  Overall, not a bad place....convenient to Commercial Street, but wouldn't consider staying there again, just due to the fact of having to remember to request a room with a TV and A/C...things we usually take for granted.
