Me and my snowmobiling crew stay here on our trips instead of the expensive lodges in the mountains. They have everything we need and nothing we don’t. The rooms are warm even in the dead of winter. The beds have plenty of blankets. The shower is hot its cozy and quiet. Can’t wait to go again.

Stay here every winter

This small motel was a great place to stay. It was clean and well kept up. The rooms were small, but it was more than we needed. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The WIFI and TV worked well , as did the microwave and refrigerator. We stayed there both going and on our return trip. The independent coffee booth is a big plus for coffee drinkers.

Stayed there twice on our recent trip.

We stayed twice at the Western once going and once coming.  I was looking for a place that had parking right outside the door and the Western fit the bill.  The lady was very helpful and very friendly.  room was clean, quiet, comfortable...liked it so much we stayed the 2nd time. also a pet friendly place. economical place to stay

Mom and pop motel

I recommend the Ranchester Western Motel in Ranchester, Wyoming first of all as being maybe 20% less expensive than those ten miles away in Sheridan.  And you won't give up a thing for your twenty-buck savings.  An older motel, as the retro single-level-units-wrapped-around-a-courtyard-that-serves-as-parking-lot architecture testifies.  But well-maintained, clean, spacious, with working fridge, microwave, and wi-fi.  And a super-comfortable mattress, great for sleeping, which is, after all, the main reason one is at a motel.  Located in a charming town of abut 800, just off I-90, with an awesome park/campground you can walk across a bridge to enjoy. A grocery store a couple blocks away.  And an owner-manager, Lynda, who is delightfully personable.

Nice place

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights while visiting friends who lived in this small town. It is an older- well kept motel. Our room had 2 beds, Recliner, Fridge, coffee maker, Microwave, Bathroom.  Our room was very clean. We felt safe and enjoyed our stay. Very friendly owner and house keeping. Free Breakfast- fruit, cereal, donuts, juice, milk and toast. On the first day, my daughter didn't like the taste of the milk ( milk was fine but whole milk), the next day, we noticed a different kind of milk was in its place. I really think the owner replaced it for that reason. Very sweet . In the parking lot there is a small coffee drive-in. Restaurant in town has some yummy food too.

The room was clean; smelled of cleanser.  No free breakfast, I think the signage and website are dated?  The wi-fi worked well.  This is just on the main road (14) in Ranchester.  It is a short walk to one of WYs historical sites; the Connor Battlefield site.

Ok for a night if all you need is a bed a d a shower. Very run down. There was hair on my pillowcase and on the shower. The reading light didn’t work. The curtain rod was coming off the wall. Breakfast was ok. Pretty dingy, cluttered room where they staged breakfast.

Best I can say is that there weren’t any bugs.

Stopped on a road trip after Little Big Horn and not wanting to drive very far after a long, hot afternoon touring the battleground. I'd found this place on the internet as the kids were "done". 

Check-in went smooth - the lady at the front had our reservation and room ready. 

So now I remember why I don't do Mom & Pop motels anymore. The walls need to be painted, the deadbolt wouldn't engage (so I propped a chair under the inside knob), there was a slight ring in the tub (so I scrubbed it out as best I could), and the room was steaming hot - the window unit finally got it cooled down about 5 hours later. Overall, it was mostly clean - I have friends with less clean houses. 

That said, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. 

However, I think if I ever do this route again I'll drive on down to Sheridan to find a (national chain) place to stay. 

Yeah, it's a two-star

This place needs to be torn down and rebuilt.  Things haven't been touched in years. The old lady running the place is not nice at all.  The broken down washing machines and trash around the front was not excusable.  If I lived in Ranchester, I would be embarrassed. 

You can find better rooms at better prices just a short drive down the road in Sheridan.

Do not stay here.

I made reservations at this place in March for June and when we arrived they didn't even have us down but still had rooms.  The lobby had a bad odor but that was nothing compared to the room.  It was so bad I went to the front desk and asked for some Lysol to try to improve the smell.  The owner looked shocked and then told me the room hadn't been rented out for about a month.  We couldn't leave the window open because the screens were all ripped.  We stayed at this motel a long time ago and it was ok but they haven't stuck any money into it, sad because this could be a nice place if only the owners put some money back into it.  They drive new vehicles, maybe they should fix the place up or at least clean it!!!!
