I’m only giving this a “1” score because a score is required.  

We had initially made our reservation for Friday Aug. 6, 2021 but ended up here a day early and called to see if we could get our reservation changed. They were able to get us into a room separate from our original reservation (yay!). But then we got into the room. Y’all. We found 4 cockroaches in less than 5 minutes. We didn’t even make it to the bathroom in the span of time it took to see them. 

My daughter was inspecting the room and opening drawers and boom. First roach in the top drawer. My eldest daughter found the second one crawling above her on the ceiling. I of course got curious and moved the night stand and there was number 3 + another small mystery bug. I told oldest to put her shoes on (cause she took them off first thing of course) and as she’s sliding them on the curtain blew up by her face and there was lovely number 4. 

I’ve never done a review on a hotel before, but that was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I was Snapchatting the entire experience to a friend but forgot to save any of the videos while we were all freaking out.

ROACHES

Bars on windows by 2 bail bondsman places and a funeral home, payed through a thick paned glass with a slot for the card under. No breakfast with sign that said breakfast, mirrors on walls, and as soon as we turned on the light, a roach ran up the wall on one of the mirrored walls. I did not feel safe nor did I want to sleep in the room with bugs. I would rather sleep in my car than go here again.

Don't go here

Our room was very clean, and the king size bed was comfortable. The location provided walking access to downtown. However there was not much else going for it. The location was noisy (traffic noise). The heater made the room either VERY hot, or cold--we couldn't get it to achieve a reasonable temperature. There were 2 bath towels, but only one hand towel and one face cloth. There were no extras in the way of microwave oven, refrigerator, or iron, except there was a hair dryer. A room key required a $5 deposit, and the TV control another $10 deposit. The free wi-fi was difficult to get a connection to, and within minutes would drop the connection. With persistence we were able to locate reviews for nearby restaurants, but gave up trying to do anything else.

We were not impressed, but you get what you pay for. Would we stay here again--only if there were no other moderately priced places available close to the River Walk. (We stayed New Year's eve, and by Dec. 30 this was the only hotel under $200 that was available.)

Clean and comfortable bed.

If you're on a budget and need a secure, quiet and clean place to stay in San Antonio's downtown area, this place is it. I've stayed at the River Inn quite a few times over the years and never had any problems. In fact the owner Umesh, is quite an entertaining person who also cares about the comfort of his guests. I'm sure you would agree that owners and managers of most smaller properties rarely say anything to their guests. To me, that makes a huge difference when I stay at a hotel or motel.

A diamond in the rough

I requested a room with two double beds and was initially given a king size bed with mirrors everywhere and a beach painted on the walls. Not our kind of room. We asked to be switched and were given a different room. There was no undersheet covering the mattress and instead there was just a regular sheet that you slept on under the cover blanket. We think we got bed bugs from this motel since there was easy access for the bugs from the mattress. Cheapest motel we found near the riverwalk but you get what you pay for. Bed bugs.

Friday night bed bugs 

When my and my friend arrived in the afternoon for check-in we were a little bit scared about the place. It is really the kind of area you should expect a gunfight. The room was nice and the A/C worked really good. But in the room next to ours, a couple was discussing, working and having sex during the whole night. My friend could not sleep at all. Not only because of the noise, but also because he was scared someone breaking the window and ask for our belongings. Only good point, cheap and close to Riverwalk (I mean by car).

Good luck if you can sleep

I stay at the motel, when I come down from Houston,tx to visit family and friends. I like the location, it's very close to IH 35, IH10. The people who run motel are very friendly. The location and price of rooms, I think are a very good deal. Stayed over 10 times haven't had no problem, nice place to kickback, also a/c units keep the room nice cold.
