The motel is very nice, the parking lot is big . The rooms are also big , the beds are comfy the house keeping is excellent. They always leave fresh towels and new rolls of toilet paper . And the front desk is very nice every time , excellent costumer service.

Overall my experience here has been great I mid I had to rate it on a scale 1-10 I would give it a 10

Pros: nice, quiet place above Cambria, CA. Within walking distance to the beach. Plenty of parking. (Noticed the Sheriff's unit cruising the parking lot.) Pets welcome with lots of pet areas. Property is well maintained.

Cons: Water overflow from shower pooled around toilet, making use a little troublesome for dry feet.

Overall: If you want a place out of the "hustle & bustle" tourist areas, this is the place. Very close to Hearst Castle. (3 miles)

Quiet, away from the crowds.

Not bad at all for the money. Friendly check in (even gave me a room few hours early) Easy to locate. Basic room but clean. Only stayed a night in a stop off on highway 1 road trip. Was pleasantly surprised it had a pool. After driving 4 hours from Monterey it was nice to get out of road/car mode, stick some swim shorts on and take a dip and chill by pool. No one was around the pool. I assume every one was out adventuring so felt like a private pool. Pleasant surrounding area that's full of other motels and little bars/restaurants. Only downside is the noise of a night. You can hear the car park, neighbours, machinery, water pipes etc. It's not peaceful at all. But I paid less £80 so wasn't expecting perfection. I didn't visit Hearst castle (I'm from Europe and didn't come Cali to see Castles) but it's real close. The elephant seal vista point is 5 minutes drive away that is definitely worth a little stop. If you are a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend this place but if you you don't mind a bit of noise then this is a nice little spot for a night.

Good, but not for light sleepers. 

After a long day of travel and a few hours in San Fransisco, we called ahead for a room. We arrived just before 9:00 pm. We were greeted by friendly staff, a clean spacious room for well under $100. Very clean, quiet and a comfortable bed. We just stayed for the night , but there is lots to see here, including the Hearst Estate and castle.

Excellent Night Stop For the Money

Decent basic motel. Rooms were clean and fairly large. Very cheap, just $50 on the night we stayed. The hotel had recently changed hands when we were checking in and it appears that our booking had gotten lost on the system. Luckily the manager was there and after half an hour or so accepted that we had booked and paid and offered us a room. Didnt use the pool whilst there, so can not comment.

Basic Motel

We've been to this location many times over the decades. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff people were courteous. Unfortunately: (1) The dining room does not currently serve breakfast. We understand they might have done that because of Covid, but now the other motel dining rooms on that little motel row are open for breakfast, so Motel 6 should do the same.  (2) The doors to the corridors used to be openable only if one used one's room key, but now those doors are wide open all the time, night and day, so non-guests can enter corridors. This is a security problem which Motel 6 needs to address.  (3) There used to be a microwave in the lobby for guests, but it's gone now. so there's no way to get hot water.

clean comfortable room but some pre-Covid features need to be restored

We stayed at San Simeon for a stop over whilst travelling north from LA. We arrived quite late in the evening but it was easy to find and the reception staff were very attentive. Despite how late it was the place was very rowdy! Obviously some type of party/get together going on. Our room was pretty dated but clean. 2 queen beds and most of the essentials you need for a nights stay.

Pros. Clean, Tidy, Huge Car Park, Staff.

Negatives....  there are a few. Unfortunately this place is so dated! Some repairs you'd like to see sorted even if they dont clean up the decor. It was so noisy, even when in the room. You can hear all the other rooms and the hallway was busy all night long!! Because they allow pets we heard a dog almost all evening. Be aware that if there are pets staying here then its likely that they are on their own for periods at a time. Sleep was difficult due to the noise till about 2am. Come 7am it started again!!

All in all with different guests this would have been a good stop over. However, for us we were happy with just the one night. 

Not bad for a one night stay.

On a holiday, this was the only budget accommodation in the area.  Even La Quinta was charging $300/night.  

It didn't have anything extra - no coffee machine, no microwave, no fridge, no breakfast, no comfortable chair, no usb outlet, nothing!   Still it was clean and everything was in good condition, so it was fine for a night.  

It had indoor corridors which I prefer and there was coffee in the lobby in the morning.  We also had an ocean view.

Paid 190$ and no room coffee, microwave or fridge and put in smoking room.  It was clean. Stayed in same motel night before different city w all amenities AND much cheaper.
The on line amenities need to be accurate and consistent.  Lastly the online bookers need to notify of deposits for the hotels when it applys

Bad decision

For a company who’s sole purpose is providing a clean, comfortable and safe place to sleep, I find it interesting that Motel 6 totally misses the mark. I understand the concept of a budget motel. It’s not a resort or anything close, of course, just more of a stop-over as you’re passing through a town. But in San Simeon, nothing added up. For a striking $300/night we literally got four walls, a bathroom, and a bed. There wasn’t even a cheap grab-and-go morning snack, just coffee. No coffee maker in the room. The paper thin walls allowed us to hear the temperamental ice machine downstairs all night. The air conditioner did not work at all, no power. No pictures on the walls, not an extra pillow in sight, the pool was closed, people sleeping in their cars in the parking lot. I don’t usually give bad reviews, mainly because I don’t like to, but the only thing I can recall as decent was the guy at the front desk, who was generally nice and seemed like a good rule follower. He probably thought we were fools for paying that much. In this case he would be right. This place gave me a bad taste in my mouth towards all Motel 6s. Seems like the new brand and ad campaigns completely fall short of their reality. There are so many other options out there for weary travelers. I will never come back, even if the room was priced logically at around $100/night.
