Love the accommodations at the Parrots Nest Cottages!  Super clean and newly renovated. We had beach chairs, bicycles, and other beach items there for our use. Walking distance to the beach. A few things were alittle inconvenient—we were only given one set of towels for the week and there was no hairdryer. We were given xtra towels but we had to call for them. Lastly, I had an incident with a staff member that left a bitter taste. I called their phone # on our day of arrival which happened to be Thanksgiving day. I was shocked when the woman who answered informed me that it was Thanksgiving in a way that let me know that I was hugely inconveniencing her day. I was so taken aback that I didn’t address her rudeness that day, but I just want say that it was Thanksgiving for me too and also, my first day of a much anticipated vacation. And I think that with my payment that I probably helped pay for that Thanksgiving Turkey she had that day!  Too bad your nasty demeanor soured me on such a nice place. 

Lovely Place except for One Bad Apple

The bicycles on the property are unsafe, broken down and rusted. The island is still in very bad condition with very few restaurants and businesses open. The beach near the lighthouse had a horrible smell and the shells had a really foul odor, water appeared contaminated. The rental agency that booked our stay was not transparent about the current condition of the island and mislead us with all of the beautiful photos posted on their website. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Stay away!

We were fortunate to see a posting that Parrots Nest had reopened and spent two nights in Lovebirds #5. The remodeled studio (which is now a one bedroom) was clean and bright, and the bed was comfortable. We brought our own bikes but there were bikes available for guests to use. Tips: Make sure you pull the curtains and leave the A/C on low when you go out during the day because the room does get warm (especially the bedroom) in this extreme heat. Temperature at night was fine. We walked to Lighthouse Beach and found more shells on that end of the island than we ever have in the past. A couple of the shops nearby had sidewalk tables so we did some shopping and had some great meals at Doc Fords and excellent pizza at Great White Grill. It was sad to see so much damage but uplifting to see how the business owners and residents that we met are keeping their spirits up and appreciate visitors. Can't wait to return to our favorite home away from home!

So happy to be back!

My husband and I decided to check out our happy place for a couple of nights to see the lingering effects left by Hurricane Ian.  We have stayed at Parrots Nest in the past and for a few nights visit have always found it comfortable.  This side of the island looks extremely devastating and was worried how the little cottages would look.  Was extremely pleased when opening the door to our little cottage.  The remodel looks fabulous and very serene.  Though we have no need to use the daybed, I do like how it’s all confined to a cabinet, similar to a Murphy bed.  Was disappointed that the laundry facility is not up and running yet, but it looks to be in the works.  I will suggest bringing Toliet paper and paper towels.  No paper towels and less than a half roll of tp.  We’ll be making a trip to Jerry’s, not a biggie.  I will say Breakaway vacations was fabulous with their communications, even calling to let us know the cottage was ready early for us.  Thank you for allowing us to stay in the newly refurbed cottage #1.

The worst vacation ever! Stay away from this place, it is still under construction. Lack of communication from host.

We got exactly what we expected at the Lovebirds cottage. The photos on the website are just what you find. Nice, spacious, clean cottage. Very nice base for a week of lounging on the beach. The bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach wagons -- everything you need -- are provided. The almost-private beach on Buttonwood is a 3-minute bike ride or less than a 10-minute walk. We will be back. That's for sure.

Exactly as advertised

Very low priced! You get what you pay for. 

Cottage #6. TV is on a stand.. vs hung on a wall. It is lower than the bed.. so only one side of the bad can actually see the TV. 

The kitchen was filled with sand ants.

Bring your own TP. You get one roll. 

Shower/bath- open the window. Running the fan will pull sewer gas from the drains if you don’t! 

If you need a shower and a place to flop - and nothing more.. great.. otherwise it’s wise to pass..

Not a good experience!

Great location. Spacious efficiency cottage, super clean. Soft sheets, efficiency kitchen, complimentary use of mini charcoal Weber grill, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach cart, beach towels and bikes. Large gas grill on site.The private beach access is an easy walk from cottage. You can walk along the beach from the private access point to the lighthouse. Shell washing station and outside shower station makes it easy to avoid sand in the cottage. We ate at the Lighthouse Cafe nextdoor twice and Eggs Benedict and French Toast are awesome.  Fast service and cheerful staff.

If you fly into Fort Meyers you can stop at Whole Foods not far from airport which is in the same area as Panera Bakery. Stock up before crossing the causeway to avoid extra tolls going back and forth. Jerry's on the island is well stocked but a little more expensive. 

Parking at the cottage is close and easy access. Beware of $5 per hour parking charges at beaches strictly enforced.

Adventures in Paradise has a nice sunset/dolphin trip from Fort Meyers. Another half day shelling trip from Captiva Cruises has a remote shelling island with sand dollars, starfish and assorted larger shells. Check on things to bring with each tour company.  Both have parking lots and there is a $5 fee at Captiva.  Great restaurants within walking distance from Captiva Cruises parking area.

Favorite Sanibel/Captiva restaurants Lighthouse Cafe, Grandma Dots, and Mucky Duck on beach near Captiva  Cruises and also R.C. Otters Island Eats.
 

Looking for small cottage vs condo experience?

Really enjoyed our stay at the Parrots Nest. Our cottage was comfy and very clean. The location is also very good and semi-isolated, so you can enjoy the solitude if you wish, but very easily accessible to all parts of the island. The staff notified us when our cottage was ready before check in time.  It was a little difficult finding the light switch for the bathroom and figuring out the television. Amenities include bikes for use by the guests. Would definitely stay again.

Great comfy accommodations

Ok, the bad first. TV never did work. Despite the fact that I reported it on day one and called the number listed on our reservation. The number that says we will get back to you within the hour. Never did return my call. Also, free bikes are nice, but man, they need some upkeep. Lots of loose seats, bolts, etc. Potential danger here if u are not careful. 
The good. Oh my lord, so quiet and peaceful. So easy to get to beach. So quaint and adorable. Nice basic and quiet place to crash.
