We utilized the pool. We had room #104, very comfortable for 4 adults and 2 grandchildren. 2 qn beds. Qn pullout and a twin pullout. 2 bathrooms. Walking distance to the boardwalk. They only issue was the walk back, the hotel is located at the top of a hill which was little difficult for my elderly mother.

This was not a pleasant experience in so many ways. When I booked my reservation on 8/9/24, I called the hotel because I didn't receive a confirmation number through email. The person on the phone said I could come in and check in the room since it was past midnight when we were on the phone. I was surprised she said that, but she reaffirmed that coming in at that time was okay.
So, to avoid traffic, I hit the road with my 6-year-old son, and we arrived at the hotel around 3:30 a.m. 
I realized something was wrong from the moment we arrived. No one was responding to the ring bell and when she opened the door she couldn't hide how nervous she was. I didn't understand why until she said "There is a problem". 
A few things happened after that. First, she tried to cancel my original reservation and make me pay for my reserved room from 4am to 11am and get out of the hotel.
Or, pay an additional fee for another room until 11am and then check in at 3pm to my original reservation. 
I refused to both since she was the one who told me it was ok to get on the road and drive 2 hours in the middle of the night to check in earlier since it was the last room available that weekend. 
Then she got on the phone to the Sea and Sand Inn Hotel owned by the same company to accommodate me and my son until 11am. She said it was a complementary room because of her mistake but when I got there the receptionist tried to charge me for that room after she lied to my face saying it was all taken care of. 
At that point, it was already close to 5am, my son and I were both tired. He was crying and begging to lie down.
The receptionist at the Sea and Sand Inn Hotel had to call a Manager to go over the situation and after some back and forth he agreed to accommodate us until noon. Later that afternoon, we checked in to our original reservation and no one cared to give us an apology for the ordeal experienced the night before. Not even a late checkout was granted when I requested one the next day. 

Great location, bad service!! Very disappointed

After arriving, and realizing I had botched my reservation with the wrong date, the staff quickly went into high gear to accommodate our needs in a delightful, caring way. The staff, Gaby and Rolando quickly turned things around and made our stay Absolutely memorable. I will certainly be returning.

Maximum concern

They wound up draining whatever they could off my card because of some crumbs on the floor from my 3, 4, and 5 yo. And also to rewash the bedding (thought hotel standards were to wash bedding between guests 🤷‍♂️).

Do not recommend with toddlers!

BEWARE! So I booked a family suite on Expedia for over $500. When my wife and mother showed up with the kids, they told us that room isn’t available. They then tried to show us a much smaller room that smelled disgusting, so much mold. When I called Expedia to to dispute, they said the Manager told them they gave us another option and won’t refund. Just goes to show the kind of service you can expect with these people. They don’t have your room, and still will try and force you to pay. But listen to me, I am an attorney at law, they can not charge you. Dispute with your credit card company as I am. They did not have the room I paid for, therefore, they can not charge me. I will be getting my refund and wi never ever recommend this disgusting place.

BEWARE!

I've been staying here for the last several years on a regular basis and I have never been disappointed! Plenty of space, dog friendly rooms available. Comfortable beds. The staff is exceptional!  Friendly, accommodating and  personable. All the rooms are unique, something for everyone. It is within walking distance to surfing, a day on the beach, the boardwalk, the wharf, downtown and a short drive to the Santa Cruz Harbor and neighboring cities such as Capitola and Aptos.  Great restaurants and shopping in the area.

Centrally located &  close to Surfing

Stayed here about four years ago and the reviews seem to reflect our stay.  Great location but one of the worst hotels/motels we’ve stayed in.  Breakfast was a couple of crumbs on reception, the pool was salty and the staff were loud and rude.  The rooms were dated and we put towels over our pillows as they looked dirty.  Great location though! 👎👎👎

Swerve

Stayed here for business one night, but thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to the beach and to downtown SC - easy walk to boardwalk, beach and downtown SC eats and shopping.  The owner is so sweet and they want to work with you so just be a person - you know, a human who is present and kind - it is returned 10-fold.  This is an older motel with A LOT of charm.  California is expensive.  You can stay somewhere less expensive but that is your choice.  I would absolutely stay here again.  Great service, sweet people and darling property at the beach!

I assume the standards and expectations of motels in Santa Cruz are so low that people would rate this place fabulous. The staff is nice enough, but the place is very old and outdated. The room has green indoor/outdoor carpeting. There is no AC. Yes it is a 2min walk to the ocean, but the room was very warm upon check in. It can get easily get into the 90s in Santa Cruz. I don’t know how old the mattresses are, but the sheets seemed ancient as they were very scratchy. This was also the first time I have seen a bed spread in 15 years. Why do you need it when it’s 89F. The bathroom was literally 4x4 but at least the shower had almost decent water pressure. Cannot complain about the location as we walked to the beach, dining and the boardwalk. This was a last min booking and I sorely regret using my valuable free night on the property. If I had paid $85 I would have NO complaints but the cash value of my free night was $320 and I paid another 95 to cover the difference plus taxes. 

I should have done more research. This is the one time TripAdvisor let me down. 

I know you get price gouging on holidays... Who rates this place excellent?!?

We were very pleased with our room the views were awesome we had a little patio that we could sit out on and look at the ocean right across the street. The staff were extremely friendly and the parking was convenient to the room, each had an exclusive spot.
