The location could not be better for the price.  It isn’t fair to compare this hotel with rooms that are this close to the boardwalk and cost $450 to $650/night. The location is awesome for walking everywhere. The room is the tiniest most zero frills hotel ever. So you have to decide what you want to spend your vaca money on- location vs comfort.

Tiny Dirty but awesome location 

I called the motel ten days in advance and made a reservation for two nights. When we arrived they had no record of it. There were rooms available but I had to fill out all the walk in paperwork through a robbery proof window as the lobby was closed permanently. I gave the guy my card then he spent the next few minutes on his cell phone. Then, for some reason, none of my cards would work for the $100 security deposit so I paid that in cash. I guess I was lucky to have had it?
Once in our room it became apparent that we must be on the busiest, noisiest intersection in Santa Cruz and this place is RIGHT next to the streets on either side. The traffic slowed a bit but didn't stop all night (a Friday) and we got very little sleep. I'll be charged for tonight or I'd find another place or just go home tonight.
The only reason I gave it two stars is it's relatively inexpensive (but not cheap), the room was clean and comfortable (but had no drawers or shelves for clothes) and was only three blocks from the boardwalk. 
If you're a sound sleeper I suppose it would be okay but use one of the booking sites to make your reservation!
We don't come to the Cruz often but if we ever do again, I'll pony up the extra $$ and stay in a better spot with a real lobby.

Horrible Experience

This hotel was okay. Now it was a good spot and the price was okay. We got a family suite that had 3 queen beds and one bathroom that did not have a door. That's right it did not have a door. What it had was a Curtin. The walking distance from the hotel to the boardwalk was not that bad. But I would rather spend a little more money for a hotel that will provide you with a bathroom door.

If you're  desperate. It's so close to the beach and boardwalk. There is no carpeting. There is no coffee. There is no ice machine.  It seems to be in the loudest intersection in all of Santa Cruz. The owner was super friendly. Checked in early, checked out late.   It is a very Spartan property. I'm not mad at all. This place must've been built when I was born around 1955.  Still it was Labor Day weekend it was hell of a lot better than camping

The room was filthy! My feet turned black walking on the carpet. We received housekeeping service 1 day of the 5 we were there. When I called to have our trash taken out, the maid complained we had too much garbage and showed me where the trash can was. Our bags were stolen out of the car the morning we checked out (no fault of the motel) but be aware of the homeless and tweakers that hang right outside by the river. Location was good. Walking distance to downtown, the boardwalk and pier.

Dirty!!

If I could give 0 stars I would. I would say Motel 6 was a 1000x better. This hotel  was dirty, NO nothing. No coffee, no maker, no ice, no MOP!!! Yes I said mop. We dropped a bottle of wine and asked for a mop to clean it up and they gave us a broom and broom holder. Yes think about that!!!! NO MOP. Walls were dirty everything was. I will never stay there again nor let anyone stay there that I know. AND for basically $300 a night I'd say we got ripped off big time. We did have a mini fridge and microwave. Needless to say we only were in the room to sleep and that was hard to do knowing it was so dirty.

This place is a dump! They charge the same as a 5 star hotel. And they treat their customers like scum. TripAdvisor is the WORST too! They have ruined travel for Americans. NEVER use Tripadvisor again

BEYOND FURIOUS WORST EVER!

If I could rate it less than 0 I would. It is beyond any horrible. I'm usually really tolerant and not a picky but this place is so disgusting. 
1. Service are so unfriendly. They look like they hate we showed up and disturbed them with the checkin.
2. Room smells with the mold.
3. Room is dirty. Some used pins are everywhere on the table.
4. Towels are so used that you are not sure it is just dirty or they just become gray color instead of white.
5. The same for sheets.
6. They have COCKROACHES. The big one was sitting on the wall without even being remotely scared to run away.
7. Location is not perfect as well. On the corner of 3 roads and just after the big breach. It was super noisy and hard to get in/out from the parking lot.

I have to say the management was very nice to me but everything at this place is super old and out dated. We paid $200 on a Fri cause we came in for the concert and it was ok but no frills at all. So the location isn’t bad and its two blocks from the boardwalk. But if your looking for a nicer place this isn’t it. If your just looking for a quick crash its ok
