Stayed here with spouse and two daughters for 2 nights in August.

THE GOOD:
--Cottages are a great layout for a family with smallish kids - 2 bedrooms, bath, kitchen, etc.
--Has a nice outdoor deck with a hot tub that was great!
--Kitchen has all the necessary bits
--Overall the cottages are very well kept up
--Quiet little spot made sleeping pretty easy
--Beds were reasonably comfy
--Enough space for storage of clothes etc.
--Rate was reasonable for a full cottage

THE BAD:
--It's a bit of a hike on foot to get to Saugatuck or Douglas "town", but if you don't mind a bit of a hike or don't mind driving to park closer, no problem.
--The air conditioning is only in the common space, so if it's a hot night, you can't really close the bedroom doors unless you want it stifling. Not a big deal, just FYI really.
--Not marked well so it is hard to find, after you check in at The Pines, but once you've been there once it's easy.

Really the negatives are all pretty small. This is a darn good choice, again, if you are good with not being right next to "town". I'd recommend it!

If you don't mind a short hike to town, this is a great choice

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our 35th anniversary, but it was a “working holiday” that meshed with the 4th of July.

Pros:
Check in was easy and front desk person at saugatuck retro resort was very friendly. Lots of info about the area and where to eat, what to do. 
Cottages are in a more remote area, very quiet.
Great looking hot tub and private deck area.
Cottages are cute and roomy and have storage and plenty of needed amenities. We liked the little soaps/shampoos. Closet and drawer space is plentiful in bedrooms.
Loved sitting on the deck in the mornings with coffee.
Nice that the cottage had a full sized coffee maker, kitchen is well stocked with all needed equipment.

Cons:
Wi-Fi was non existent most of our stay and since it was a working holiday we ended up leaving the cottage two days early as we ran out of our own data plan that we had been using. 
Aircon was only in the main room, so that area was cool but the bedrooms and bathroom were not, we had to blast the air unit and run fans to even feel cool.
Although the living room furniture is cute, it is not very comfy for relaxing. Needed some type of stools for feet and maybe different cushions.
We never tried the tv.
We did not feel it was walking distance to downtown as advertised. Maybe some people are happy walking but in the heat we felt it was too far. Bikes would have been a nice touch as saugatuck has limited parking that was totally filled every night. But it is not easily walkable to downtown.
There needs to be some type of stand or storage in the bathroom as there was no where to put toiletries. Also Limited hanging space.
Towels were provided but not very thick or absorbent.
The price y U pay for this cottage is very overpriced. We paid a high premium to be out of town, and not near downtown where all the fun is.

We loved The saugatuck/Douglas area and want to go back but we would not stay at the cottages again. We would look into staying right downtown in one of these areas as that’s where the action is and it is quite lovely.

Remote cottage, good for a true getaway

My friends and I had stayed here before at one of the cottages and it seemed fine, but this time there was much to be desired.  While the decor was nice and charming other things made it less so.  
First there was practically no wifi connections, and the few times there were, it was very weak and slow. Likewise got the tv on, but there was no signal.  Also with three remotes
a card with them telling how to operate the tv would help.
The towels for the bathroom were thin a flimsy, not what one wants on vacation.
Also the bathroom is very small, and for a two bedroom cottage, where one could have up to 4 staying, only one small 15-18 inch towel rack and one towel ring.  There was
room for more on a wall next tot he tub.
The kitchen was nice, but could use some friendly additions like saran wrap or foil,
bags, seasonings.  Pretty much bare bones if one is planning on using it. Has utensils,
dishware, etc.  but that's about it.
Location is quiet, and close enough to the towns.  Next time will look for a place a little more comfy and into the 21st century.

Less than expected

 My hubby and I came here with another couple who are dear friends for a much needed getaway.  Steve and Rob are both wonderful hosts and the cottage is adorable. It's the perfect size for two couples to hang out for the weekend,  with a nicely decorated living area and a table for four  in the kitchen.  The hot tub was delightful and we're looking forward to playing cards in the kitchen.   I am so glad I found this hidden treasure in Saugatuck! 

Perfect getaway!

This darling, impeccable cottage was perfect for our girls weekend!   Steve and Rob have created a beautiful setting for a memorable get-away.   All the comforts of home plus a private patio with hot tub, vey relaxing!
