Ok, when Trail break first opened, it had some growing pains. Now, it's the best restaurant around. The service is good and the food is the best around. We have become bog fans!!!!!! Way to go, Barry!!!!!!!

Best Food in the Area

food was great and the service great also.  our server, anthony, was fantastic!  made sure we were all satisfied with everything.  he was sooooo busy but always came over to our table to see if we needed anything.  the interior of the restaurant needs alot! white tablecloths and linen napkins would definitely help. the walls need picture and the exit door in dining room should be fixed.  soft music playing should be a must.i

My sister was the first to arrive, and was the one who checked us in. She went in to the restaurant to find someone, and it was completely empty. She had to go through the dining area and enter the kitchen to find someone to check her in.

When my fiancé and I arrived, we arrived at a room that was... serviceable, at the very least. There was a couch to sit on and creaky, stiff beds to attempt to sleep on, along with a wobbly ceiling fan. The bathroom and CRT tv's were very outdated, but I've come to expect those things from motels in Schroon Lake.

As a child I remembered the motel having a pool, and was excited at the possibility of having a lazy day of not going anywhere and chilling at the pool instead of driving into town to go to the crowded beach. Imagine my disappointment at finding that the pool was green and filthy, absolutely unusable. Which is just as well, walking back to my room dripping wet would probably be too dangerous due to the exposed wires from the light posts that had been pulled from the ground.

My family visited us one night to have dinner at the restaurant, and I will say that despite having fond memories of it as a child, it did not live up to them this time. The New England Clam Chowder I had was tasty, but oddly it was made with a traditional mirepoix with carrots. The manicotti I had also had a good flavor profile, but the portions were very small and the pasta was under-filled and fell apart at minimal provocation.

When my fiancé and I went to check out, the restaurant door was locked and there was no one to be found to turn our keys in to. Calling one phone number resulted in no one answering and the call being directed to a voicemail box, and calling the other number resulted in being redirected to that same voicemail box. We eventually just left our keys atop the mini-fridge and hoped for the best as we drove away.

I will not be staying here again unless there have been improvements.

Not Even Childhood Nostalgia Could Improve My Opinion

Where do I begin? Yrs. ago Drake's motel was a gem of Schroon Lake. It was a hallmark of summer to go there when Margo and Tony owned / operated the property. The restaurant was good too. Now you walk into the restaurant and discover an empty old refrigerator case........... nothing to have in a restaurant. If they new what they were doing it wouldnt even be there..............

Upon arriving I discovered the room to be filthy. Dust / dirt on every flat surface. Mouse droppings in the bathroom and the bathroom looked to never have been cleaned prior to a guest. Just plain filthy. I swear the sheets were those from twenty yrs ago. Stained etc.  I had to make a few trips to the restaurant in order to even get towels...... the poor girl that had to go looking for them...... she finally showed up at my door with a couple of them. I wanted to ask her where her manager was? The guy never showed himself in light of various problems. A coward. 

The morning that I left, I found no one around to tell them of what I had encountered. Not a soul. A phone number is posted in tiny writing on the garage door. I called it - no answer. 

I later telephoned them and expressed my opinion. The manager offered me a free room that would be clean, I told him that I would not be back. I asked for at least half of my money back. The $90 - some - odd dollar amount that they are charging is hideously over priced. 

I have attempted to contact them over the above multiple times lately. It took me a little while for me to get back to them concerning a refund etc. due to a family emergency. I expressed that to the manager. After many times of contact..... even offering to take him up on his offer of staying there again (hoping the room would be clean) because I was going to be in the area again..... I have gotten no reply. 

Stay somewhere else. There are a couple of other places in the immediate area that are equal or a little more expensive that are far cleaner and the owner / operator at least will come out and take care of a problem if one arises. 

Really go elsewhere.

What a shame......................

I'm not sure what was most disturbing, my daughter's feet completely black after walking on the carpet, the smell of cigarette smoke that was pouring into our room from the air conditioner, or the black mold on the shower curtain. To say the least, even for the price, it was not a place I would ever stay again. First, even though it says check in is at 3, you can't check in until the restaurant opened at 4. The room that was originally booked was suddenly unavailable and we were moved to another room. Upon entering we found there were no towels, so I had to walk down to the restaurant to ask for towels for a family of 5.  They placed towels outside our door, 1 bath towel, a bath mat, and 4 fingertip towels. Back down to the restaurant to ask for 5 bath towels, we eventually got 4. Forget the pool that looks blue in the pictures, it was a beautiful shade of green while we were there. We finally got settled and ate at their equally disappointing restaurant. It took almost an hour to get our food, and without the hostess trying to fill in for the ever absent waitress we would have never had waters or bread to fill the time. Microwaved meatballs that were hard on the bottom, 4 tiny shrimp for $10, and sangria that tasted like it had been sitting for awhile rounded out our dinner. If you are looking for a quick place to crash for the night, eat someplace else and crash there, otherwise, run!
