I would never suggest anyone stay at this hotel much less associate AARP to the property 
The manager / owner was so agressive and actually scared me with his behavior 
We had a ONE night reservation and he was militant about some pet policy CLEARLY we had NO pets and he was threatening with his words like we were going to violate his demand 
They held $200 on my card that isn’t released yet for a $70 room total 
They yelled at my son because he went to the office to return the key vs put in the box outside 

It was truly the worst place .. it was smelly and clearly it had been smoked in 24 hrs a day 7 days a week yet he also threatened about how it was a NO smoking property 

I was scared and almost walked away but I knew I’d lose my reservation cost and I truly can’t say how scared the manager made me feel 
He was truly militant not great with English language and didn’t even smile once or say thank you .. felt like we were being treated like criminals not customers 

The worst hotel experience in my entire life by far no comparison 

Is provably the least safe place in scottsdale and managed by an awful hateful man I have zero trust I will make sure my deposit is removed .. a deposit for a rodeway inn is really insane anyway .. 
thank goodness we made thru the night 
Rooms were broken into while we were there and the guy made copies of our driver license

Terrible dirty rude scared

My girlfriend and I rented a room for two days here.
On the first day when I checked the manager ran my credit card and said it was no good. I knew it was, politely asked him to double check. He got angry, used racist language and insisted it was a "bad" card. The credit card company sent me a notification that the wrong expiration date had been entered. I returned to the front desk and explained what had happened to the manager and he begrudgingly reran the card. He offered no apology for his previous behavior.
The next day one of the other couples we were holidaying with stopped by our room. We made plans to walk to a restaurant in the town center, My girlfriend was running late so she decided to stay behind and wait for the second couple, who were also running late. The 3 of them would drive into town and meet us later.
As the three of us approached the town center I received a frantic phone call from my girlfriend. She was crying and told me the manager had showed up at our door, screaming at her and telling her to leave the property. I grabbed an Uber back to the hotel. When I arrived I found my girlfriend outside, visibly upset and shaking. She told me the manager had screamed at her about having 6 people in the room and she needed to get our belongings out or he was calling the police. This made no sense to me so I went to the managers office assuming there was some kind of mistake or misunderstanding. Instead I was greeted by a very hostile and angry manager who started raving about 6 people in our room and "he knew what we were doing." 
This was ridiculous. I explained there was just my girlfriend and I in the room. No one else was staying there. He yelled that he saw me walk by with two other people , one of whom had "had tattoos all over him." 
"Yes," I said, "then you saw me walk right by your office with another couple that we were joining for dinner. The second couple were going to pick up Angela (my girlfriend) and meet us later. They didn't want to walk. "
"That's a crazy story," he yelled.
"If I was trying to hide people why would I walk right by your office?" I asked.
"You were trying to be smart" he yelled.
He continued yelling nonsensically about people coming on the property and saying "I know what you people are trying to do. I have it on video."
"Good. Then you know that they just stopped by for a minute to pick her up."
He started yelling about how he "knew what I was trying to do.."
I had no idea what he was talking about. There was no rule nor had he told us that people couldn't come on the property to knock at our door. Or that people can't come by to pick us up.
My girlfriend was still very upset, the manager continued yelling about "you people" and "he knew what we were trying to do."
We got our belongings out of the room, which we left in perfect condition and left the hotel.
Over the next several days the hotel charged me several hundred dollars in phony deposits on my credit card. I am disputing them now.
Stay far away from this place.

Miserable shockingly bad experience

The "adult": bookstore next door sort of defines the place.  We also had to endure two days without hot water.  At least the ice machine, Wifi and TV worked, so we endured the lack of blankets (just a sheet and very thin cover) and grimy room. We  had disinfectant pray and cleaner in our car, so we cleaned the place and kept our socks on.  Actually, the manager was quite pleasant and seems to have kept pushing until they replaced the hot water heater.  You do get what you pay for and this was much cheaper than other places in the area - we will avoid Scottsdale in March.

No hot water, door won’t close/ won’t open, noisy . Staff won’t answer to phone calls. Checked out early and reported to Corporate for 2 -day stay full refund. They know  hot water is not working and they never inform when we checked in. Still waiting for this case to be resolved.

No hot water. No management response

My recent stay at Rodeway Inn was by far the worst hotel or motel stay I have ever experienced. The room was absolutely disgusting and in disrepair. From the moment I checked in, I had a bad feeling about the property. The front office was dirty and in some disrepair and the front desk agent did not ask for my ID and credit card which I found odd. 

Upon arrival at my room, I noticed the room number sign was dirty and had fingerprints on it and it only got worse from there. I entered the room to find a scratched and damaged floor, a dirty and fingerprinted light switch, a non-functioning deadbolt and the safety chain coming out of the wall. The door had scuff marks, dirt and fingerprints all over it, the desk lampshade had dark brown stains and there were what appeared to be dried boogers on the walls. The vanity/closet area had scuff marks on the walls, the closet shelf was incredibly dusty and had dead bugs on it. The bathroom had a pungent stench of urine and some sort of stain in the shape of a footprint on the floor. The HVAC barely worked. The bed frame was dusty and the bedside table nearest the bathroom had what looked a lot like dried blood stains. The bed was uncomfortable. It was bouncy and creaked with every movement. There was no blanket or comforter on the bed, just thin sheets.

Stay away from this property at all costs!

Absolutely disgusting

I have stayed in a lot of hotels and motels in many states and this one is by far the most disgusting place ever! The mattresses were filthy, covered in blood and urine stains. I'm surprised there weren't bed bugs. One mattress even had large dirty paw prints all over it. There was only a fitted sheet and a top sheet for bedding. Each bed had one pillow. It was completely obvious that none of the bedding had been changed as there was dirt and hair everywhere. Do not stay here!

Room 119 should be condemned!

I just started laughing when I wrote the title to this review because it fits it so well... Upon check-in I asked the lady at the desk if this was a quiet hotel and she assured me and swore up and down... very very quiet... got to the room and the door would not open the lock was stuck... you literally had to slam it down to open it... I have seen closets bigger than this entire hotel room... and I paid $85 for it I've seen it on some nights go over $100 which is completely Criminal... TV remote did not work... Shower was disgusting so I didn't use it... but the icing on the cake is that I could hear the TV on in the room next to me and two drug addicts screaming and making noise all night... I had to move my bed to the middle of the room and turn the fan on so I could sleep...I was able to sleep but was awoken by the junkie next door every time he would bang something..This went on until 6 am... if I can save one person from this nightmare I've done a good job... it's Hotel needs to be shut down and condemned by the city of Scottsdale...

Oversized closet

There was no bar soap anywhere in the room . Did they  assume  that the little tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner was enough- what a joke especially now as we are living in a pandemic and washing your hands is very Important .

No soap

When you first drive up, this property could look a bit disconcerting. And you might find the reception closed. I had to ring the office bell for assistance to come. But once in my room, I was satisfied that this is a good basic choice. There's no luxury here but each room is like a small cottage. The owners are trying their best to add some small touches to enhance guest satisfaction. My room was shrouded by a lemon tree. And just about every room has a planter out front. My room was also furnished with a microwave and fridge but I had to open the cupboard to find them as well as the small coffee maker. The rest of my room furnishings seem to have been gathered together from excess hotel furniture sales. That's OK. The chest of drawers was huge; much too large for just my overnight stay. The location is next to an adult venue but they have their own 24/7 parking. I found no problem. If you're a walker, Old Town is about 15 minutes north. Fashion Square at Camelback is another 15 minutes. If you stay here, you won't suffer for lack of restaurants or gift stores. Just remember, this is budget. No small breakfast, though there is some vending and a guest laundry.

Small, Basic But OK

Do not be fooled by the outward appearance of this motel. It is even hard to tell that it’s a motel from the street. There is only a small, ground-level sign marking the location. This is a single level, old-school motel facility. The outside is southwestern style stucco with red tile roof. You park at the door to your room. No stairs and no families with inconsiderate, loud, unruly kids running around on the floor in the room above you! Once you enter the room, you will be impressed with the modern decorating, furnishings and flooring. Included is a large screen TV, microwave and refrigerator. The TV connection ports are not easily accessible, but we made do. The bathroom mirror and sink are separate from the toilet/bath area (nice) AND there is a working fan. The air conditioning unit worked great—very important in Scottsdale. The area feels safe (even though there is an adult bookstore next door) and you are within easy walking distance of numerous fast-food locations, good restaurants and convenience stores. Our favorite nearby restaurants were Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles and Oregano’s for pizza and Italian food. The price for such a great property was amazingly low, especially since our stay was during the “snowbird” season. The staff was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful and there’s even a soda machine that only costs $1/soda! 

There are only two minor cons. We had a king room. There was only one nightstand. A couch took up the space on the other side. In this day and age of technology, a nightstand on each side of the bed with adequate electrical access is pretty much a necessity...the couch, not so much. Also, there is a “resort” fee. Booking.com was up front about this (which I appreciate) and even so, the total price was still a bargain, but can we please do away with “extra” fees that are not optional?
