Just stayed in the seahorse cottage. It was a great fit for my family with two kids. The location is ideal as it's close to the shore, park, and walking distance to downtown seward. The kitchen was well stocked and the living room was comfortable. The mud room came in handy as it rained every day we were in seward. 

Seahorse cottage stay

We were so delighted with our room at the lodge, especially after the lovely ride on the train.  We loved how they integrated the old and new features for total comfort!! The room was very clean and the kitchen had everything one would need.  The hotel is centrally located so very convenient to walk to everything.  We highly recommend choosing the sauerdough for your stay in Seward!!!

We stayed in the Seahorse Cottage for three days. The house was clean and comfortable. We were able to walk to pretty much anything we wanted to do. The view off the back porch was fantastic. I appreciated the washer/dryer, which were both new and easy to use. I also liked that the shades blocked the light, so we didn't have any difficulty getting to sleep. My only (minor) complaint is that there was a not a great area to charge phones in the bedroom. The top bunk bed also had a low rail, so is better suited for older kids (not a problem for our family, but figured I'd note it).

Relaxing Stay in Seward

Our family stayed in the Sunrise Suite.  It fit all 6 of us comfortably.  We loved the vintage vibe and the location was perfect!!  We forgot a vest when we checked out and the owners were kind enough to ship it back to us!!  I would highly recommend staying at the Sauerdough Lodge!!

Great Location and Friendly Owners!!

We stayed in the Sunrise Suite for my son’s 1st birthday weekend and LOVED it. It was affordable and beautiful. I loved the mix between vintage & modern that this historical room had. The location was perfect for us, especially for having to come back to the room for naps. It made the trip so easy and fun! We ordered takeout from the restaurant next door and walked over to get it. We also went to the sea life center which was right down the street! I loved that this room had a play kitchen for our son. The essential oil diffuser with samples was a HUGE bonus. And we were surprised to see that they had a Netflix account to use. We will be staying here every time we visit Seward now! The only thing that we didn’t like was that the fridge had lots of very old food left in it, so we didn’t tip housekeeping. That was an easy fix though and we will be back in the future.  5/5 Stars! 

Sunrise Suite in February

Is it The Hilton? Is it Ritz? No.

What it is is a clean, comfortable, perfectly located Airbnb at of rooms. Our suite had a bed, couch, high top table for two, and a full kitchen, including a full sized refrigerator. The character of the lodging is in line with its history. Chandeliers in the hallways, original woodwork, and quaint.

Located above a nice coffee shop/Cafe, it sits on the main drag in Seward, and it puts you in the center of the local shops, bars, and a couple of bars. You're also in walking distance of the waterfront, the Alaska Sealife Center.

All in all, a truly wonderful stay!

Perfect lodging in a great location in downtown Seward.

We spent two days here and so enjoyed staying at the Sourdough.  It was old, but very well kept, clean and right in the middle of downtown.  This unit had everything it advertised plus a kitchen!  We'd definitely stay in this comfy place again.

Comfy Place Downtown

The owners have obviously spent time and energy putting this space together. It is a really lovely set of rooms to walk into if you enjoy vintage and eclectic decor.  There is a small kitchen with all the basic amenities and a bathroom with clawfoot tub. Off to one side of the space is an annex area, without a door, with a single bed. The additional sleeping consists of a queen sized bed and a futon. The rooms are clean and the lodging is in a prime spot for Seward. 

Some drawbacks for us, included the heat build up on a warm day with the sun coming directly through the windows. We had a window wide open and fans running constantly and could not cool the room well. We noticed several other guests with hallway doors open. In addition, the bed frame in the annex area was not stable with several brackets not fixed. Finally, I would not recommend the space for more than three guests as it felt really cramped. 

We enjoyed our stay in Seward, and also the access to the cafe beneath the rooms with a $5 discount coupon included in the room rental.

Nicely curated space, compact and centrally located

hmmm let's say this place was very nice until they dinged my credit card for $400. I was actually planning on staying there again the following weekend. Until I checked my CC card account. Lets start off with we are smokers, thats our choice to be. Did we smoke in the room NO. Did I throw a empty pack of cigarettes in the trash yes. According to the housekeepers our room reeked of smoke, they accused us of smoking in the room, which let me say again we did not. We would go out on bench out front and throw the butts in the trash can two stores down. Now let's start with the room. 

1) Futon was filthy had to put a sheet over the cushions so you would feel a little cleaner, also futon is broken you set at a very odd angle.. V shaped angle, not like a couch.
2) Had to wash coffee cups that were in cupboard before use, coffee ring in cups, coffee filter had mold in it also washed that, coffee grinder was so clogged with coffee ground beans had to use a knife to scrape the ground coffee out of it.
3) Hair over the drain hole of the claw foot tub.
4) Had people from roof top doing the peeking tom thing while in kitchen.
5) no fan in bathroom, so if anyone used the restroom the room would stink

I will only say DO NOT STAY HERE IF
1) YOU ARE A SMOKER
2) YOU HAVE VERY STINKY FEET
3) USE RESTROOM BEFORE YOU LEAVE
4) YOU GO FISHING WHILE STAYING THERE. (WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT SMELLS)

But on the flip side housekeepers are ok with the smell of recreational substances, because when I walked in around 2 to see if we could check in early, I could smell it plain as day. If I knew this was going to happen to me I wouldn't have left a tip that the housekeepers beg for with a envelope taped to table. Maybe I didn't leave a big enough tip for sloppy housekeeping, I did leave $10 for them maybe they expect more. So all I can say is dont stay here if you are planning on being stinky in anyway shape or form, you will get dinged a huge fee, and diffently dont stay here if you are a smoker. But other then what I have said, I didn't complain about the furniture, or tub, or anything else to the owner who lied to me when I called about extra charge. Maybe I should have but it would have just sounded like retaliation against sloppy housekeepers. Another thing if you don't do anything stinky in the room it is a very nice place to stay, history of building is amazing.

I wouldn't even give it a star if that was an option

I booked the Sleeper room for one night through AirBnB as everything else was booked. The owner told me they'd let me know if I could check in early or could leave my bags before the 4 pm check in. My train arrived at 11 I had 5 hrs with my bags and nowhere to leave them. The owner never got back to me, after a reminder too. I would have made alternate arrangements if I knew sooner it was not a possibility.  Since they operate a little cafe right next to the place, I came there and asked the staff if I could leave a bag. He looked at me with suspicion and told me to leave the bags in the storage room and told me twice to not attempt to walk into the storage room without asking the staff. I did not intend to do it anyway, and this kind of treatment was unnecessary when I am paying over $200 for a night.  At 4:30 PM when I returned to finally check in, the cafe was closed and the code I was given did not work. I called the owner, who seemed to be upset with my calling (although it said in the instructions to call him if needed), asked me what color door I was trying to use the code for and it turned out it was the wrong door. Nowhere in my instructions the color of the door was mentioned and the two entrances have the same address posted above them. When I told him that I still needed to get into the cafe to get my bags he got even more upset. When he came over he treated me like nuisance.  I am sorry I stayed here and will never consider doing it again.
