We only spent one night here, but would come back again to stay longer. Room was lovely and clean, and we loved the shower! Also, very quiet. Families with active children upstairs could not be heard at all. Crescent Beach is a short drive or walk, and there is an ice cream stand nearby. There was a porch with lounge chairs, a yard with chairs and umbrellas and bicycles available. 
Near downtown area and ferry. Very nice!

Lovely house, modern room, great location

My husband and I wanted to get away for the weekend and we loved the West Neck Guesthouse. The rooms were impeccably clean and well-cared for.  We were able to walk over to the Shelter Island House to use the pool and had an amazing lunch at Caci.  We also were able to walk to Sunset Beach.  Just the relaxing weekend we needed!

Perfect weekend getaway!

I gave it 4 stars only because of the access and use of Shelter Island House.
After our friends booked a room at Shelter Island House for $275, we tried, and it was now $400, we then searched for a more reasonable place and found West Neck Guesthouse, which looked very nice as well. When we were dropping our friends off at the Shelter Island House, a very pleasant and helpful young lady Emma, that worked the front desk there, informed me that West Neck Guesthouse was the sister Inn. We were able to use the facilities at the Shelter House, which had a nice pool, and Gazebo area, but its also 3 blocks away. Then we also found  out that the West Neck House had no facilities At All. Its really just an annex, it was just a parking lot and a house, with grounds that were unkept, nothing like the cute pictures featured. We stayed in room  4, which was quite nice. Small fridge, no cloths closet, just a rod with hangers sticking out of the wall. There were no glasses of any sort in the room, no phone, ice or ice machine, no water or coffee maker, and anything you needed, you would have to go 3 blocks to the Shelter House to get.
Also, the room had connecting doors to room next to us, later that night we found out that the doors were never locked, and we had total access to someone elses room, and vice versa. Grab and go Pastries, and Yogurt  for Breakfast were nice, but you had to go to the shelter House, and Emma was kind enough to make a take out box for us. They do not have any DeCaf coffee, at all so we had to drive to a Deli. The location is good, a few blocks from the beach, and the town was a short walk. We did find a few people who said they stay at the West Neck, because it is over $100 less than Shelter House, for the same quality Room, and don't mind driving/walking back and forth. I'm still undecided on that. All and all it worked out, but the actually grounds of the West Neck was a real turn off, and the inability to get anything there was a real surprise.

Disappointed, But.....

We came for two nights for my nieces wedding at The Boat House.  The room was very clean and the linens were very nice.  Time was of the essence so I planned on having breakfast in my room and because we had a refrigerator, I brought OJ, milk and coffee cake to go with the coffee I would make in the room. The amenities promised a single serve coffee maker.  There was no such thing in the room. I called the desk at the main inn and was told that since coffee was served at the inn, they had removed all coffee makers and coffee was  served 8-10 AM.  I rise at six.  I also like coffee at other times of the day.  This was so very disappointing.  It ruined my morning on both days.  This is enough to make me change my plans for another visit.  I could have rented a whole house and kitchen  with my sister but decided a coffee maker would be perfect for my breakfast.  Take coffee maker off the list of amenities if you can’t provide it.  

Wedding weekend

My family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights. The house itself is adorable, but could use some much needed, simple updates to make it top notch.  We arrived right at check-in time (3 pm) and there was no sign or indication where to check in. We finally called the phone number provided and were told to just go in, find our room (#1) and make ourselves at home. Unfortunately housekeeping was still making up our room, and told us to come back in 5 minutes...which stretched into 20 minutes. She apologized that they were short staffed. 

Our room was really cute...2 levels with a sleeper sofa downstairs for our son and a great king bed upstairs in the loft. With some freshening up this place could be a gem (and it wouldn’t cost much!), but it just felt a little tired. The kitchenette was nice to have, and we had a coffee maker, sugar and cream...but no coffee or tea. Also, (and this is a trivial complaint) there were way more lights in the ceiling than light switches!  We could never figure out how to to turn them on. A little simplification in the electrical system would be helpful. But I digress...

This is a cute little place, and less expensive than other places I looked at. We loved the free bikes to explore the island, and the delicious ice cream shop right next door. Not a bad location (but then it’s hard to find a bad location on this cute little island!). 

This gem could just use some polishing and it would be a home run!

Nice place, but could use some updates. 

It’s a simple guest house at a steep price point (it’s the summer in the Hamptons so it is what it is). Paper thin walls so you can hear everything. There were cobwebs with spiders around some windows and the lamps were truly hideous with brown marks on the shades...I mean come on, invest in some lamps for goodness sake. The bed was comfy and the ac worked well. The use of the sister hotel was appreciated for the tasty breakfast pastries and being able to borrow beach chairs and an umbrella. There were bikes at the property. 

Nothing special

After being greeted by a giant stink bug in the room upon arrival, as well as a massive, very unclean-looking stain on one of the two chairs in the room…it was downhill from there. A sleepless night from a party upstairs revealed paper-thin walls. Most egregiously, an email to the guesthouse staff with our concerns, as well as an attempt to retrieve the apparently non-existent WiFi code, went unanswered. We didn’t stay the second night of our reservation despite the enormous price tag we already paid, which may be relatively low for the area, but at the same cost of a fancy hotel room in most other parts of the country, staying at the West Neck Guesthouse makes you doubt the value of visiting Shelter Island altogether.

What A Waste

This business has been pocketing my money and has not returned my calls or emails. We were supposed to change our dates of stay after having paid in full and they haven’t gotten back to me about that and they don’t answer my calls or texts. They are unreliable and untrustworthy. Do not book with them.

Dishonest business that doesn’t respond to your calls or emails.

The toilet paper holder was broken.  There was only one light in the bathroom and that was over the bath (which was slippery).  The floor covering was cheap, thin, scratchy jute. There was no chair. There was no phone -- we had to use our own phone to call the office. We had to call the office because the office was 2 blocks away.  Most of the basic cable channels were blocked, let alone HBO. There was no pad and pen. There was no tourist literature.  Finally, i requested on my reservation that we get a ground floor room.  We were put on the 2nd floor at the top of a steep, paint spattered staircase.

Luxury price, a poorly maintained, spartan hotel

Not worth the price. Room was 8x8 with 6 doors in it. 3 doors to nowhere. TP roller was broken off with a hole in the wall and towel rack was broken. Bathroom was 3x5. Bathtub/shower didn’t drain properly. Sconce on wall was broken off and hanging. And the room smelled musty. 
They need to take a few days and fix the place up.
