Very nice rooms and the friendliest staff I have ever seen, and I stay in hotels 100+ days a year.  After a week of heavy rain the staff made us feel right at home.  I highly recommend Eagle Bay Inn if your looking to get away from the downtown cruise ship traffic.

Extraordinary stay at Eagle Bay Inn!!

I arrived early evening by air and was out next morning before 5am.  All I needed was a comfortable, safe, clean room and the Eagle Bay Inn delivered.  I could actually see stopping here by car and the fact that it's a little outside town would be a plus!

Decent stay overall but promised shuttle pickup didn't materialize.  I called the hotel 14 times and either my number was blocked or there was a technical issue, but the call never successfully went through. 

I then called my wife in New York, and she successfully reached the hotel to let them know I was at the Sitka airport.  They then realized they were supposed to pick me up and someone did come pretty quickly.  Stuff happens and I'm pretty mellow, but not the way a guest wants to arrive with promise that someone would be at the airport to meet me. 

Finally got the hotel around 7:30p after the plane landed at about 630pm.  I had to be out of the hotel at 4:45am for an early flight.  Hotel is located just outside Sitka proper.  

There's an excellent pizza/Mexican restaurant a couple of doors down from the hotel.  Reasonably priced for Alaska!   Great beer selection and food was great! I tried to eat/drink at the nearby Harbor Mountain Brewing Company, a short walk away.  Their pizza got great reviews, but when I arrived at 7:50p they told me they were done with pizza for the evening, so I passed and went back to the Mexican place next to the hotel

Would totally recommend the Eagle Bay hotel IF your requirements are a comfortable bed with limited amenities nearby.  Looked like a long walk, but not impossible, into town.  Apparently, there's a bus, but I read somewhere that service stops at 7pm.  If you have a car, the location might even be considered a plus, as it's about a 5-minute drive to Sitka proper.  

I only dealt with one person, and she was the woman who picked me up at the hotel and then checked me in.  Great service by the way from the woman who booked my stay over the phone.  And hotel does offer tea/coffee and very limited breakfast items in the morning.

Served My Needs Well for an Overnight Passing Through Sitka!

Clean, quick walk to town through park where we saw thousands of spawning salmon, across from small beach, excellent free coffee.   Stayed just one night pre cruise and would definitely recommend.   Free shuttle met us at airport and returned us to convention center where our cruise was organizing luggage and passengers.

I rarely write reviews, when I do rest assured I was overwhelmed. The staff are tremendous! They are endlessly helpful, attentive and friendly. The entire property is clean beyond expectation, everything you may need is there and available. Rooms are comfortable, quaint, clean, well stocked; bathrooms are spotless, plenty of towels and personal necessities. There is a breakfast/snack bar in the lobby stocked full if you desire and is open 24/7. This was a very pleasant and comfortable place to stay. To boot there is a restaurant, "Pizza Express", just a few doors down the plaza, the menu and choices are diverse and the food is great! Would stay at the Eagle Bay Inn again and again. Wish there were more of this type of accommodation in more cities! Thank you to all those at Eagle Bay Inn.

Don't overlook the orchid when looking for a rose!!!!

My wife and I visited Sitka at the end of May, 2022. Our lodging for 2 nights was Eagle Bay Inn. We arrived in Sitka via Alaska Seaplanes from Juneau. Miranda from the inn picked us up at the airport and drove us to the motel. The motel is part of a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. But the friendly,  welcoming staff on the inside is what makes Eagle Bay Inn special. Vicki,  the energetic manager,  showed us a room on the first floor and another room on the second floor. We chose spacious room #16 on the second floor, overlooking the front parking lot. It actually had two rooms. It was a suite. The lobby of the inn has a kitchenette that is stocked with coffee, orange juice, bagels & cream cheese, jellies,  yogurt, donuts, cookies, apples and cherry turnovers. The Eagle Bay Inn is a short walk to both the Raptor Center and the Sitka National Historic Park. A Blue Line bus stop is just a minute walk from the lobby. We used the Blue Line bus to get within a block of the Fortress Of The Bears.  After checking out the bears, we took a 5 mile bus ride and walked around downtown Sitka. Several times throughout the day, an eagle would be perched at the top of a tree visible from our room. Just across the road from the inn is a rocky beach with great views of the water and mountains. At the end of our visit to Sitka, Miranda took us to the airport. After sitting a while waiting for our plane, a person at the checkout counter asked us if we were missing a cell phone. Sure enough, my wife had left her cell phone in our room at the Eagle Bay Inn.  Miranda found it while cleaning the room, called the airport and then drove back to the airport to hand deliver it to my wife. Name me another motel/hotel that would do that. THAT is customer service at it's best. Another Tripadviser review mentioned constant traffic in and out of the strip mall. Our room was on the front of the building but traffic didn't seem excessive or bother us.

Run by some of the nicest people on the island. No kidding, I got a hug from the owner five minutes after we met. Fantastic rooms. Both our dogs were welcome as well. There was nothing that anyone could have done to make our stay more wonderful. Thank you!

Vicki and the team at eagle bay inn made sure to make us feel at home in Sitka and helped us get around town with their free shuttle. A clean place with hot coffee and English muffins in the morning and a few minutes walk to the national forest entrance. And affordable! We hope to be back!

Hosts take such good care of you!

Even though not required in Sitka, no one on the staff wore a mask, including Vicki, the owner, who is actually very friendly, but.... The staff, including Vicki not wearing maks is totally disrespectful (and potentially harmful) to people who stay there, not to mention against the law. I didn't want to be bothered with calling the authorities, but if I did, they would have faced a large fine. Also, when I was looking for a place to stay in Sitka, and read all the positive reviews, I looked up where the Eagle Bay was located and it appeared to be pretty far from everything else in Sitka. So I called and spoke to Vicki and she told me that the hotel was just a few blocks from downtown. NOT TRUE. It is a 30 minute walk to downtown! Unless you are renting a car, this is not a place to stay. Otherwise, taxi in, taxi out and again and again. They DO NOT provide shuttle service to downtown or other locations that you might want to visit. They only provide the shuttle to the airport. The hotel is located in a pretty dismal part of town and there is a pizza place there, but nothing else, unless you want to walk over to the gas station for some gas station snacks. The views that are advertised are a complete deception. It does not have good views. Stay away!

Don't stay here

For the $83/night price, this hotel is great! It’s very, very clean and well maintained. We stayed two nights in July and had room 203. We enjoyed looking out at the tall tree across the street on the corner to watch the eagle come and go. There are a lot of DirectTV channels. The assorted supermarket pastries, loaves of bread and bagels, jars of peanut butter and jelly, cream cheese, OJ, granola bars and instant oatmeal available all day were great. There was even a small library in the lobby. Vicki was so personable and the shuttle ride to the airport was super. We took her advice and ate at the airport restaurant (Nugget Restaurant)  prior to our 1:45 flight and it was good (and very reasonable).  Eat at the next door Pizza Express, too, for great Mexican (and good pizza).

We walked to the Raptor Center and Sitka National Historical Park. About two blocks away from Eagle Bay Inn is a convenience store next to the post office. We saw Simplee Southern across the street on our last day or would have eaten there, too. 

(By the way, if you don’t have TSA Precheck you’ll want to be in line by 12:30 for the Tuesday 1:45 flight.)
