This place was a lifesaver when I was caught in a total whiteout and I90 was closed.
The room was cozy and clean. I slept well while a sno-pocalypse was going on outside.

Definitely recommended. Not Fancy but a great place to spend the night.

Great little motel to stay after a long days driving

This place saved me when they shut I90 down. At first I was leery because it looked small and said “motel” instead of hotel so I thought it would be dirty. Shame on me for “judging a book by its cover”. 
The lady was super nice and willing to work with me if the interstate stayed closed longer than expected. It was a good price and very clean. The dead bolt lock didn’t work in the room I stayed in but the door lock did and I always take a door stop with me plus block the doors with a heavy object anyway. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to sleep that good but I felt at peace and slept well. It’s a family owned business so the hours do own is okay the desk is a little odd and Sundays are on call only but it has the number to call right on the door. I would definitely recommend this place and if I ever decide to drive through SD again (not likely unless in summer) I would stay here again.

Dakota Winds was a lifesaver when our vehicle broke down on I-90! The owners were so nice, and extremely accommodating to us and our dogs - especially since we had to stay longer than planned due to the repairs needed on our vehicle. Highly recommend for a clean, comfortable, and quiet place to stop for rest!

Great little motel

The Dakota Winds fit our need--an inexpensive motel so we didn't have to set up our tent in the rain late at night.  No coffee maker in room, ice machine didn't work, stains on carpet.  However, desk clerk was very nice, bathroom was clean, area was quiet and bed was comfy!

Place to sleep

The rooms are mostly clean, the furniture could use new upholstery. The room was quiet, no coffee maker in the room - you have to ask at the desk for one. Discounts for active military or vets only. Their ice machine was "broken" but they sold ice in the office. Just across the street the ice was cheaper and larger. The motel is close to I90, but there is no traffic noise.

Clean quiet and close to restaurants

The owners and the staff are delightful.  so much better than our other experiences in the area.  You might have to find the cleaning lady to check in but all in all a great value during pheasant season.

four star hotel in Kimball

Stayed here last year for one night, passing through from Alaska to North Carolina. I had zero complaints. The rooms were nice and clean, nothing fancy, parking is right outside the door. There is covered parking so we were able to park our motorcycles literally right outside the door. There is a restaurant/convenience store right across the highway that has really good breakfast. The staff was great, the cleaning staff even gave us a couple of rags for us to clean our windscreens with the next morning. Don't come expecting a five star hotel and you won't be disappointed.

As good as it gets

We stopped overnight on our way out West. It is a quaint hotel. The rooms are clean, owner was friendly. 

The beds were not the most comfortable but they worked. The shower worked and was clean. It is right across street from gas station and diner so easy to grab gas and ice.
