It is a great choice for accommodation during Portland’s high season, far from expensive and not far from the city centre. It was spotlessly clean, had very comfortable beds, a nice shower and the Keurig in the room was a plus. The owner was very attentive as well as the staff, providing us with great tips for exploring the region. Would definitely recommend and would be staying there if we return to Portland.

Great choice

My daughter was married 8/18/18 and planned a one night stay at the Anchor Motel. She tour her meniscus out in her knee at her wedding! I called the hotel at 4:30 to explain that we were at the ER and would like to cancel the reservation and get a refund. First the man answering the phone had children in the background crying loudly because "they wanted to talk on my phone" according to him. After explaining to him the situation that my daughter would be spending her wedding night at the hospital he told me that we could not have a refund because we didn't give 24 hours notice! Clearly we didn't think we would need to cancel. No compassion. This time of year he could have rented the room out no problem. I went on the on-line booking nd cancelled the room and received notification that the reservation would be cancelled, then it was charged to my card anyways. Not nice!

Very unhappy with the customer care of this hotel

Very clean room. Freshly done decor. Great towels. Stylish bedding, good comfy pillows. Arsal, the manager, made check-in go smoothly, and was quite friendly and very welcoming. You can see the family takes pride in running their business. Easy freeway on/off access. Good value for summer weekend.  Demand for hotel rooms in Portland on summer weekends is very strong, leading to inflated prices everywhere.
Our mattress was too soft for us. Drain in bathtub was super slow (I left a note). A coffee pot in the room would have been nice. Overall, big thumbs up.

If you are on a budget, this is the perfect place for you. CLEAN, the cleanest motel I have ever stayed at! Everything in the room worked.  You get the basics, nothing fancy, but it's a great place. Conveniently located, just a short ride to Portland and the numerous attractions there. For the price this is well worth it.

The Anchor Motel was just what we were looking for. Me and another bachelor heading up to South Portland for the weekend. Now, chances are you're looking for something different than what we were. If you are looking for a place that's fancy, and within steps out onto the old Port Boulevard, that's not what we were looking for. You would be prepared to pay $200 to $300 a night for that. Indeed, it was a couple mile drive into Portland, but we didn't really mind. The weather was perfect. We wanted a couple clean double beds, clean room, decent shower, at a reasonable price. We paid $110 per night. This gave us money to spend on the real targets: lobsters, oysters, blueberry pancakes, chowder, ice cream, Bloody Mary's and anything else that we could gorge on while we were there for 2 days! Got back home spending a total of about $300 total for everything. That is a reasonable weekend in Maine! 

The AC was a more than adequate, in fact woke up freezing many times because my buddy likes it colder. I had to walk outside where the balmy 80° felt amazing! The fact that they had a little fridge was awesome. And even a little microwave which we didn't need or use. The TV was fine and welcome, that we watched very little of it.

The couple that ran the place, were super nice, and very accommodating. A lovely family. We did miss a midday cleanup from the maid that was promised, but really, they had given us more than enough towels, which is all we needed anyway. Although I understand, with a family, this may be unacceptable. Maid service should not be skipped, if it is promised. 

So if you're a couple, or family without a lot of means to spend and want to get away for a weekend, the Anchor Motel should be fine. Don't expect fancy lamps or furniture, or the newest designs on the bed covers, or even a continental breakfast. That means you'll have more room to eat the good stuff when you stroll into the old port area. I recommend Becky's diner, which is a huge tourist destination anyway, but amazing blueberry pancakes, farm fresh eggs, smoked bacon, French toast and potatoes. Expect at least a 20 minute to 45 minute wait to get in though. 
Also, I recommend the Eventide oyster Company, which gave me some of the best clam chowder I've ever eaten! Chunks of real clams, even a couple whole ones in there, buttery, with each bite a new flavor. And they put a piece of fat back bacon in it that slowly dissolves and becomes one of the best things you've ever eaten! Again, expect to wait 45 minutes to get a seat. But if you love oysters, they're shucked fresh right in front of you!

And lastly, jump on the ferry at Casco Bay for eight dollars a person, round-trip, and sail over to Peaks Island. You can rent golf carts and drive them yourself, cruising all over the small island at your leisure. Every five minutes showcases a beautiful island panorama of the rocky shores and crashing Atlantic all around you. There's a little beach with hundreds of cairns built around, and you can pull your golf cart over and build your own! For those of you who don't know what cairn is, it's those little rocky pyramids made by people out of beach pebbles, rocks, shells, driftwood and other beach detritus. Very New Age, man. There is a few decent restaurants right at the port center, but not really anywhere else on the island. And a fantastic little ice cream shop right on your way back to drop off the golf cart, and pick up the ferry! Such an amazing Vista, and I totally forgot that I was about 2 1/2 hours from my home! 

I neglected to mention that we packed everything up and left the Anchor, and I totally forgot an important medical instrument in the motel. I hadn't even realized I forgot it, when I got the cell call from the Anchor proprietor, who let me know I forgot it! What a nice guy! They are good people, and I want people to support them! Because I know I would've driven all the way back to Woburn, MA and realized I had forgotten it, had he not called. And check out was as hassle free as checking in! Anywhere you stay you will love it, but I plan to return to the Anchor again. Have a great time in Portland, no matter where you go! Cheers!

Exactly what we wanted! 

The rooms are very clean, comfortable & Newly renovated. Very affordable, great for solo or bring the family! Great atmosphere and environment! Quiet and convenient location! The staff is very  friendly and accommodating. Five stars ☆☆☆☆☆

We had already booked a room in this motel for a long time. A few days before our stay, we received a booking email informing us that the hotel could not honour our reservation. We found a new motel nearby (there was very little choice left and prices had increased in the meantime) and found that it was open. We remain unknown why this cancellation was made but this leaves doubt about the seriousness of this establishment.

Reservation cancelled without explanation

The room is clean and big, convenient to reach, and there's also the fridge and the microwave, and the staff is friendly, and the location is good, as it's between Portland, the lighthouse, and the Maine Mall.

Discrete

Stay at this hotel for a four-week trip. When we arrived, we feared the worst...but no! it's modest but clean. The rooms are not very big but for one night, no problem. No breakfast, but there's a restaurant across the street that offers a very good buffet for a good price as well (protein, juice, Viennese...). For those who just want a snack, there's a gas pump 200 meters away that offers tea, coffee... and lots of cakes for sale.
