We decided to book this inn because their commercial on our local PBS made it sound lovely and romantic.   We booked the most expensive room.  My husband told them we were celebrating our 50th anniversary.   Well, our “lovely room” was two houses away in a dingy house.  We climbed a dirty carpeted stairway to reach our room.  The couch looked dingy, there was heavy dust on the bed frame, the fireplace didn’t work.  The jetted tub did work but had a sign that warning not to do this or that or it would not work or shut down properly.   The room wasn’t worth a third of what we paid.  

As for our anniversary, the inn did not recognize it.   At breakfast, coffee is excellent but if you do not want the entree of the day, you get one of those premade omelets.   After we had almost finished eating, my husband flagged the waiter to ask for some water.  The waiter said, “Sure and we also have orange juice.”  Second day, it was the same.  No water or juice unless we asked for it.

Very very disappointing and way overpriced.

50th Anniversary disappointment

We were looking forward to staying at this B&B, and stayed in the Benton Room (attic).  Unfortunately, the room was a disappointment and in need of a complete overhaul.  IMO, this room is in no condition to rent to people.  The carpet was heavily stained, the bathroom floor had a large hole that was covered (nailed) with plywood with a torn rug over it.  The bedspreads had seen better days and were very old and faded.  The sheets were clean, thankfully.  The furniture through the house and in our room looked like flea market finds. The house has great potential but until then, I cannot recommend staying here.  Note...the breakfast was good.  

Needs significant maintenance and cleaning

This was our second stay at the Walnut Street Inn.  Close to downtown Springfield, so fairly centrally located and within easy reach of Commercial St. and our other favorite places.  Stayed in the large and lovely McCann suite (it's really more than just a room).  As indicated in the title, everything, including breakfast, was great.  Staff is both friendly and attentive.  The ONLY negative of this room is the street noise - it comes straight in through the beautiful, old, single-paned windows.  Located at one corner of a 4-way stop near college apartments, you can hear everything, including conversation, way past your bedtime.  Bring good earplugs if that's an issue or choose another room.  We stayed  in the carriage house last time and were blissfully unaware of outside noise.

Great city, great house, great room, great service, BUT...

I have never written a review but felt that the Walnut Street Inn was such a wonderful experience I needed to share with others.. My wife and I stayed for Mo. State family weekend. We have done a fair bit of travel and have nothing but positive to say about our stay at the Walnut St Inn.

Great Place!

This place was a real gem! It was comfortable, well appointed with fun memorabilia, great location, excellent breakfast, and wonderful staff. COVID protocols were well instituted which made us quite comfortable. There was even social distancing in the dining room. Lisa recommended Gilardi’s Restaurant down the street (easy walk) and we had one of the best dining experiences ever.

Wonderful visit to Central, MO!

We had the Jewell Room in the Carriage House.  It was lovely with a beautiful comfortable bed and nice size bathroom.  A small refrigerator was stocked with water and nonalcoholic beverages, and there was a complementary small coffee maker.  We had a lovely surprise when we turned out the lights at night and a "starry night sky" appeared on the ceiling above the bed.  Breakfast was very good with great service and a beautiful presentation.  It was a two day celebration for us; and we were very happy that we chose this place.

We were drawn to Walnut street in because if its beautiful pictures and the great stories about hauntings in the Rosen Room.

The B&B, the staff and the room we a 10/10! It was a cool old B&B with a ton of history and very close to town. The staff was helpful in finding places to eat nearby.

 Unfortunately, we didn’t see much that might have been a ghost but did feel something like a hand on our ankles during the evening while we slept. Almost as if someone laid a hand there. It was a bit chilling because it happened to both of us at different times of the night. We enjoyed our stay!

The breakfast was really good. What a beautiful place! Looking forward to a return visit in the future.

Fantastic place! I will be back!

I decided to drive to Springfield from St. Louis this year instead of taking a longer trip in the current times of the pandemic.  After looking at reviews and their website, I immediately chose the Walnut Street Inn.  From the time I arrived, I felt very welcomed by all the staff who were helpful with recommendations.  The main house dating from 1894 is beautiful and is very well maintained.  It is centrally located close to attractions and only a few blocks from downtown and many restaurants, although after the delicious breakfasts (especially the lemon pancakes), I usually didn't need to eat for hours.  I stayed in the Carver Room on the first floor which was fantastic and where the stars literally come out at night! Thanks to the owner Paula, Lisa the manager, the chef John and all the staff for making me feel like family throughout my stay.  I look forward to visiting again when in Springfield!

A Very Welcoming Stay

My husband and I decided to do a "staycation" this year for our anniversary and chose The Walnut Street Inn. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room was cute, cozy and clean. Our breakfast was so delicious and being able to have it delivered to our room was nice. We for sure look forward to another night away. Thank you!

A wonderful stay

We stayed in the Carver room.  It was so nice to be the only room on the main floor.  In the evening we used the parlor area as our own living room.. we sat on the couches and watched TV and were not bothered by anyone!  The room was better than expected, the pictures on the website do not do it justice!  The staff was so friendly and the breakfast was deliciious.  And... at night.. when you turn off the lights in this room.... the stars come out.. what a beautiful touch!  Thank you !!
