My family and I were moving back and our house was not finished yet. We checked with all three motels in town and the Empire was the most reasonable priced. We were therefor about three weeks and the owner was very nice and polite and helped with anything we needed. He actually helped fold our laundry. If we needed any thing someone (usually the owner ) was there to assist. I recommend this motel for everyone. He had started installing a miniature golf course in the back. Ted is really fixing the place up.

Welcoming Home.

I got into St. Francis late on a Saturday night.  No prior information and saw a hotel with a vacancy.  When I went in the office the man who met me was in a very dirty t-shirt and I should have left.  Then I smelled the cat smell and I should have left.  When you have driven across Kansas in one day you just need a place to sleep.  He showed me a room which was clean enough.  I took it.  Once I got myself together I went and looked for another place figuring I would just leave.  Nothing available--stuck without a lot of research.  I stayed. I slept.  In the morning I realized the bathroom was full of flies, the vent ducts were taped shut with duct tape and the smell was terrible.  I left.  Terrible and I can't get the smell out of my brain.  Never again.  Don't stay there.

Worst experience ever

We were traveling with friends who had made reservations at the Empire, sight unseen.  When we did see the conditions, we should have cancelled and tried another motel, even though there were activities in the area that may have filled all of the local places.  Be that as it may, we did stay.  Garbage was PILED outside several of the units, leading to swarms of flies in the rooms, easily coming through the unsealed air conditioning units.  The bathtub had a continually leaking faucet and an obvious leak behind the wall where the water controls were placed.  The carpet needed serious cleaning (more likely it needed replacement).  The bed was comfortable, but that was a surprise since the rest of the conditions were so deplorable.  I would absolutely not recommend this place nor will I ever staythere again.  Jane

Amazingly dirty!!!

Incredibly bad.  Just so dirty, I was really sorry we had checked in in the first place.
Thank goodness, we did not end up taking any 'surprises' with us when we left.  The dead bugs laying in the window sills, the bathtub and behind the toilet were not reassuring - I guess they had sprayed poison?  The built up crud in the bathroom sink was enough to make you gag.  I didn't touch anything with my bare hands that I could avoid the whole time I was there.

And yes, Mr Motel Owner, I did stay there regardless of your protestations.  This is my screen name.

A Dirty Dump

Positive: mattress is comfortable (not too soft)
Negative: Everything else - room and 'busyness' with international oil drillers. 

I was a bit doubtful about staying here, since locals that I had asked recommended the other two places. But, it was late, the other two motels were full (oil drilling going in the area), and the next town far away. So I took the chance, and the last (non smoking) room in town that night. 
A previous reviewer said that reception smells of cat pee. Roger that. Not bad, but yes it does. 
The room - well. Apart from the mattress, pretty bad. Especially the bathroom is run down and old. I felt a bit disgusted. 
My room was separated from next room through a door. Light shines through and so travels noise. Could here every single word of the oil driller's conversation with his wife, and than his TV. 
TV next door, other side, also very loud, as were the folks talking outside. 
As a non smoker, the cigarette and weed smell coming in from either outside or next door wasn't too nice either. 

Once people were going to sleep (midnight?) it was alright. The oil drillers get up early - quiet but smoking - and so did I, at 6am.

Bad No 2

My wife and I were just out roaming around and came across St. Francis, thought it was a cute place and decided to spend a night.  My did we make a mistake on choosing a room. The lobby smelt of dog pee and that should have been a clue but I am slow.  The room was old and I'm sure had not been remodeled in 50 years.  The carpet really needed a cleaning.  After retiring we noted the sheets smelled of men's cologne.  Had no idea a place could be this bad.  I recommend staying away.
