So, I read the reviews on Trip advisor which I always do before going somewhere and really was surprised on how it didn't match our experience. We really just wanted a clean and cheaper place to stay for one night on our way to Canada, and out of those two, cheaper was it.   Clean really is a basic thing a motel can offer even if the room is tiny and run down.  Right away my son finds body hairs all over a couple of the pillows (both beds) and a crusty stain on his comforter.  I went and indicated this to the young man at the front desk and he gave me a crazy look when I asked him for 8 new pillowcases to replace these unclean used ones.  We then tossed the quilt in the corner and he slept with sheets.  Bedroom drawer had unknown sticky substance in it.  2 dirty towels hanging behind the bathroom door as we entered the microscopic sized bathroom. There is no fan in the bathroom and a serious lack of plugs in this room - we had to unplug the clock and a lamp  to plug in needed items.  Tub had body hair all in it.   I waited to shower and other members of the family wore shower shoes.   I could assume this room was fluffed but not cleaned. We were tired from a long drive and just made the best of it.   The next day at checkout I discussed all this with a second front desk lady and she was pretty much indifferent to it all and did nothing to rectify the nasty room we just slept in overnight.  We wanted to leave early at 6:30am, no staff on site yet until 7am for coffee, etc.  Would not recommend this motel to even the thriftiest traveler.   

Suggestion if you are going to this area to look at lighthouses, the lighthouses are all on the Mackinaw City side (so you pay a toll each time to cross the Mackinac Bridge ) - if we would of planned it better, we would of booked a room on that side of the bridge.

Horrible stay will not be back

When we first got there and opened the door to the room it was like we were heat blasted, it had looked like they left the heater on all day. 

At first we were just settling in to this cozy little room, then when we went to shower when we came to discover someone else hair. A thick, short, black hair which neither me or my partner had. At this point we could’ve payed a little more for a nicer room. 

As we were watching TV we saw something crawling on the wall next to us where we found an Earwig, nothing harmful but still a bug in the room? At this point we were not the happiest, we felt as almost the room was barely cleaned. 

This room did have a microwave and mini fridge, which is very convenient. On the positive note we had a good time using this motel, but we won’t be coming back next time we visit Mackinac Island.

Not the best. Not the worst

Three night visit.  Motel in a great location.  Staff friendly.  Room very basic. No electric outlet in bathroom. No hairdryer. AC window unit extremely loud.  No breakfast. No place to hang clothes .No staff on duty from 12pm to 8am.  Went to office to get clean towels and plastic cups.

No service

We have stayed numerous times at this motel and while we find it clean and comfortable we are very disappointed with the lobby access. The lobby used to be open at 7 and we could get some coffee. Now it’s not open until 8 and it is now 8:20 with the doors still locked! We paid almost $200 with no amenities! We stay because we like to support local people but will reconsider next time. All I require is some coffee (the 2 little packets in the room don’t cut it)!

Very friendly owners, and clean place to stay. Don’t let the low price scare you, we had a wonderful stay. Outside seating was wonderful and met some new friends. You won’t find a better place to stay in St Ignace. If we return to St Ignace we will definitely stay at the Huron Inn. 

Great Place to stay

We weren't expecting a lot for only $49 per night but the room was large, very clean and most of all unbelievably quiet!  New insulated windows were put in and we didn't hear a sound even though right off the main road in town.  

The only thing not provided that other motels do is a breakfast, but hot coffee was available in the office just steps away from our room.  You can tell it is very old but is a lot nicer and cleaner than some motels I've paid a lot more money to stay at.  Highly recommend staying here.

Best Place To Stay If You're On A Budget

We went to the UP to see the colors so wanted a basic but clean place to stay for a few days. We knew we’d be spending our time outside and on the road so this privately owned motel was exactly what we needed. We didn’t need a pool or free breakfast for the prices we found for the hotels in St. Ignace that offered those. We were greeted upon arrival by the owner who told us that we’d been upgraded to a king room at no additional charge, bonus! I had booked a queen room through booking.com so was grateful for the courtesy of the upgrade by the owners. Our king room was exceptionally clean with a very nice scent.  The shower/toilet room was good size with the sink separated outside of it. The shower & sink had new fixtures, the sink was marble and there was plenty of hot water. The lighting at the sink was very good. The bed was really comfortable, can’t comment on the pillows because we always bring our own. The mini-frigg was clean & quiet and the microwave was fine. The in-wall heater was more than adequate and was fairly quiet. 
It isn’t the most modern decor if that’s something you require but I’d call it retro harking back to the 70’s with the wood paneling. I’ll take clean and a good price over decor any day. I think the owners do a great job of maintaining their hotel for the comfort of their guests and keeping the price affordable. 

Very nice & affordable!

We were pleasantly surprised with the Huron. It was very clean; accommodating; and convenient to lots of the attractions and restaurants.  Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.  Rates were excellent. Would stay here again. 

Very quaint inn

There is one thing I expect of a motel room is its cleaniness.  This motel room was very neat & clean.  The room could be updated some, old paneling, lights are old fashion but the price of the room I can over look this.  I would have liked to have given this at least a 4 star, being it advertises its " Pet Friendly" There is really no where to run or walk your dog.  We drove over to State Park to run the dog.

"It met our expectation"

Another stay at the Huron Inn was comfortable, convenient, and economical. Every time we return the owners have upgraded something. The rooms are super, super clean and relatively spacious for an old school motel. It is quiet and conveniently located. The owners are nice and knowledgeable about the area. Definitely will keep staying here when we return to the area.
