I wish we had read the negative reviews before staying here! Exactly as others have said, the owners were unbelievably rude to us and our child, and frankly, frightening and threatening.  They chased us out within 5 minutes of checking in because we had bikes with us, even though there is nothing on their website that says you can't have a bike. They said we'd get a refund and once we'd packed the car up, they told us they were NOT going to give us a refund. We were so scared of their unstable behavior that we left and found another place to stay despite the late hour. Do not stay here! Hospitality is the last business these people should be in!

As others have said, DON'T STAY HERE

Stayed 3 nights....nice room, clean but agree about the phone booth shower.  Grounds and pool area were also clean.  Owner was great about making reservation change.   Was not crazy about not receiving booking confirmation, had to call day before. Did not sign anything when checked in, no receipt checking out and when requested receipt was told it would be emailed..even left email address again!  Still waiting for it. Lastly, there is absolutely nothing in the area to do...most likely the place to stay during skiing Sunapee.

Adequate but absolutely nothing to do

Stayed here recently. Excellent location with Sunapee Mt. views but that's all. Rooms are old and tired and furniture awful. No air conditioning, Just a fan.. Shower is so small you have to be tiny to get into it. Soap in tiny bathrooms the size of a chicklet and towels tiny too. Disagreeable owner should go to charm school.

My husband and I couldn't have been more impressed.  What a beautiful location, well kept retreat as well as two very extremely accommodating hosts (Rick and Doris).  We were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary, and enjoyed everything from the cozy, well equipped, clean room, walks around the neighborhood/Sunapee Harbor, the area restaurants to the pool with the mountain view that we had all to ourselves for a day.  We even came back from our anniversary dinner to a lovely hand-picked bouquet of flowers with an accompanying card. It is apparent that the owners work extremely hard to maintain a high standard and should take great pride in the Burkehaven Lodge.  We will definitely return!!!

30 minutes from home, but a perfect get-away!

The Burkehaven is a quaint Mountainside getaway. My family and I have been coming here for 10 years+. The pool is always very clean and the property is perfectly manicured. 
Every time we stay here the rooms are always cleaned to perfection. Doris and Rick always make us feel so welcomed. Throughout the years they have recommended the best restaurants/hiking spots to go (which are listed in your room) If you’re looking for a beautiful Mountain View with a short walk to the harbor this is the place to stay. We will continue you to come back for years to come, thank you Doris and Rick!

Summer vacation

Set very close to the town of Sunapee this was a lovely last night stay.  We had the King Suite which was huge and well equipped with cooking and tea/coffee facilities.  The decaff coffee pods were excellent.  Breakfast is included and had a self serve pancake machine which was both fun and made great pancakes. The owners were very friendly and made us feel really welcome.

Excellent overnight

We stayed at this motel for three nights. The location was good...a beautiful view of Mount Sunapee and right near Lake Sunapee.  Very good continental breakfast. The room, dining area, and grounds were clean and tidy. The room was very roomy. The only drawback was the tiny shower. We would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone in the Sunapee area. 

Beautiful location 

Spent the weekend here for just a little get away and the place was spacious, clean, cute setting, and great views. The heated pool was quiet and very clean. Just down the road from Sunapee Harbor. Highly recommend! 

Clean, great pool, and beautiful views!

It s in the forest, in the countryside, the breakfast was minimalistic but ok, the room felt clean, my bed was too soft for my back, i should have taken the smaller one my son slept in... Very cosy sitting area with board games and books. The owner and staff were very nice and gave good recommendations about the area. Biking, walking, fishing,... I just wish i could have stayed more than a night.

Very charming place

Accommodation were fantastic ... Owner, however, was incredibly rude as we were checking out and instigated a rather loud argument with my husband over the sliding door being left open as we were making multiple trips outside to our cars. He (admitted) yelling to "no one in particular" to "Shut the Door". My husband took issue with how he essentially spoke to our (adult) children and quickly the owner became aggressive toward my husband threatening to call the police. It was quite bizarre as if he had simply asked one of us to please close the door between trips outside to our cars, we would have, of course, complied. Instead he became irate and verbally abusive, swearing, etc. I was not downstairs at the time, but could hear the altercation from our upstairs accommodations. When I came down, I spoke with him and again, he quickly became agitated and threatened to call the police and suggested I "get off his property".  Totally crazy and not the customer service we expected when the rest of our stay was truly wonderful.
