We visited in July, September, November, and.now February. 

The last time we visited we mentioned that the blue lights in the water that showed the fish were turned off and they said they would check on it. It never came back on and now in February is still missing. That’s a real missed feature because we used to see snook and other fish underneath the water with these awesome blue lights.

Otherwise.      Stay here. 

Miss the lights

My wife and I made a journey out to Fort Griffin to take some photos of the Milky Way and needed a place to stay for the night.  We stumbled upon this place and were pleasantly surprised with the overall experience.

It has gone through some owner changes, and the web site is not up to date, and has some issues, but in spite of that, we did manage to get a room booked.  Our total came out to $55.00, which is really good for Saturday night in a hotel that is close to the lake.  The lady that greeted us at the front desk was very polite and sweet, and made the check in process quick, easy, and very pleasant.

It's obviously an older hotel, as evidenced by the wood paneling in the rooms and some of the fixtures, but I'm okay with that because it gives the place some character.  Unlike many hotels, it's actually more of a motel, they actually turned the a/c on before our arrival so the room temperature was comfortable upon our arrival.  We've traveled a lot, and this is not always the case.  It was especially nice to walk into a cool room when the outside temperature was 102 degrees.

The room wasn't fancy, but it was clean and pleasant.  The bed was firm, but comfortable, and it had a flat screen tv mounted to the wall above a fairly large dresser that provided lots of drawer space for clothes and other stuff.  The only real issue in the room was the fact that the shower head appeared to have been installed that was about 4 feet tall.  My wife is 5' 4" and it was too short for her to stand under.  It was a bit annoying, but really that big of a deal.  On the plus side, all of the rooms have a full sized refrigerator, microwave, and fairly stable, free wi-fi.

The only real issue we had, and this is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that the door to the office was always locked so we had to ring a doorbell or knock to get them to let us in.  It wasn't a big problem when we arrived on Saturday afternoon, as she was very quick to respond.  Sunday was a different story.  We packed up and were headed out around 9 am, and never got a response at the door.  My wife knocked and rang the doorbell multiple times, and I even tried calling them on the telephone, but couldn't get an answer.  We ultimately left with the room unlocked and the key on the dresser.  Did I mention that actually have an old school metal key attached to a plastic fob with the room number.  I can't remember the last time I used one of those.  Anyway, we left and I emailed them later and let them know that we checked out and left the key in the unlocked room.

In spite of that, we will definitely stay here again when we come back out this direction.

Simple, clean, and inexpensive. If you want fancy, this isn't it.

Really nice place to stay after a hard day of fishing. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Vending machines available and snacks in the office. They have old style keys, large showers and alarm clock needed to be set. The pool looked nice and cool very clean parking lot and grounds.

Nice place to stay

Made reservation online and the new- old owners did not know we were coming.  They have moved to a pen and paper based system to keep track of rooms etc.  The rooms were dirty, bugs on the floor and in the bathrooms.  One of our 2 rooms had an odor that smelled as if something had died.  The property was very noisy the night we were there as well.  We will not return.  I did not need to know what was going on from the new- old owners or need for them to tell me things had gone bad with the person they had sold the property to.

Not reflective of prior reviews

Arrived early to discover we had no room despite having booked thru booking.com a month before.
Was not upset at this news since the lobby did not look anything like the website photo. In fact it did not look like a lobby, but maybe a storage room. Couldn't imagine what rooms were like. They may have been just fine but never got to see one.

Reservation problems

Do not book here!! The hotel is closed and won’t refund your money!! Scam!! 6/28/23. Can’t even pay their water bill!!! This needs to be addressed and so many people have lost money because of this!  There is no official number to contact and please do not book here. Go to Ridge motel or any other place in town but here until someone local buys it.

Scam scam scam

Terribly disappointed. Double charged. Room had two outlets neither of which was next to the head of the bed. Ceiling light didn’t work. AC was right over the head of the bed. 
Only 1 lamp next to the window which you couldn’t move. No coffee machine, no small refrigerator, no microwave. 
Room 11 water for shower is backwards. Cold is hot and hot is cold. 

Stains on white towels.  The only good thing about this place is there was an outlet close to plug in my boat battery

Next time I pay for A room I will look at the room first

Don’t pay before you look at the room

We were on a fishing trip for the weekend , the 2 nd time I was at this lake.  The first time we stayed at Village Inn for a week.   This time last moment thing, we stay here no rooms at Village in.   What a joke, the place smells is run down, the room was 1960, with no coffee pot (had to go to McD for coffee)  no fish clean station, no bbq grill, no not a thing just sleep and no plug to charge the boat, had to leave the door open all night to run a cord to the boat.    So we sleep in shifts,  wow that was fun..  (NOT)   on the highway.    This unless you want a bad night go here WHAT A DUMP.   If I could give it no STAR I would.      The place is just off the lake, across from a boat ramp you would think they would carter to the fisherman..   NO    IT IS A DUMP.

We pre booked this room about a week in advance and this was the only hotel that had any rooms available. We arrived on a Friday and went to check into this most run down looking establishment. I paid this very homely lady for 2 nights in hopes that the room was in better condition that the front office. I was handed my key and went to room # 3. I opened the door and wow, the smell of cigarettes punched me in the face. There are little gut fixtures over the beds that are literally hanging, and the bedding was so old and worn. It was 50.00 a night but really I expected better accommodations than that. So we drove into town and found another place to stay that was a little more pricey but so much nicer, and it didn’t smell like a bar.
