We both had the jaeger schnitzel and it was delicious.  Service was very good. However our waitress was not wearing a mask.  She offered to put one on but it should be mandatory that servers wear masks during COVID    Customers should not have to make the decision when the server acts like they are uncomfortable wearing a mask.  All other things were excellent. 

Very good

The first impression isn’t so great, and the hallways smell like mold. In fact I got a stuffy nose from the smell. However, the room was very clean and spacious!  The bed was huge!  The shower was strangely small, but the bathtub was a large one. If you don’t like a really firm pillows, their is a soft extra one in the bathroom.

The place felt very German. I was a little worried that there was a guy in a lederhosen hiding under the bed, ready to scare us. 

There are better places here, but this place is nice. 

Better then I expected. 

Pro: Very clean room...
Con: We stayed in the granite room. The bed was hard as a rock...very poor sleep...there is no window...the lighting, especially around the sink area is very bad. The best I can say about this place is that it is very clean with the exception of the coffee cups, which had not been cleaned..The food at the restaurant is very good. Very 60’s dinner club vibe. I would recommend this as a place to eat but not to stay. Very expensive considering what you get. $225.00 a night is too much for the outdated accommodations.

Granite Room:Bed is Hard as Granite

My wife and I have enjoyed Friedhelm's in the past and visited again for lunch the day after Christmas 2019.  We were quite surprised when we were presented the dinner menu from which to order our lunch.  We asked our server if there was a mistake and he replied that he didn't know why this was the case, but it was the menu from which we had to place our order.

We reluctantly placed our order for our Schnitzels at the dinner price and were not at all disappointed with the quality and quantity of our entrees.  We did have "sticker shock" having to pay 33% more for the same entrees as the year prior.

We will return to Friedhelm's, but will insist on a lunch menu when ordering lunch.

DINNER MENU PRICING FOR LUNCH

Booked this when my wife was coming to visit for a weekend while I was working away from home.  This place was great!  It is a little unusual in that no one is available at the place until at least 1100.  Check in was 1500 - 2130 which is common.  The room was great, very large with a King bed, jacuzzi tub, free standing shower, sofa and chair.  Very quiet and private.  The restaurant downstairs is phenomenal.  We shared a ribeye steak, covered with mushroom gravy, sauerkraut and noodles.  The meal came with broth and black bread, all of which was excellent.  This was the first time I have had two waiters who constantly checked on us throughout the meal.  This was one of the best steaks I have ever had and would recommend staying here to everyone.

Fantastic Find

Had dinner there with a group of 6 ladies.  The food was excellent and service was good.  My favorite dish was the red cabbage.  Could have eaten a plate full.  The bread was very tasty, also.  Met a man from Germany and he recommended his dish which we all chose and it was a good choice. All of us had the Jager Schnitzel.  Mine was served with salad and it was so fresh and read cabbage.

Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn Restaurant was delightful!  Didn't stay in hotel.

This seemed like a great fun place to stay. Themed room, jacuzzi in the room. So we spent $250 for one night. It was diffently a theme room and they give you a sheet on check in on how to behave in tbe room, no candles ok I get it, no eating or drinking, no stealing the junk in the room, dont take off your make up with the wash clothes, don’t take the amenties basket all with a threat of being charged. The bed was rock hard and the pillows were flat foam pillows. Why not spend the money on items that make the customer feel comfortable. Our couch had steer horns not really condusive to sitting comfortably. Upon entering our room it had a smell of sewer. We nicely complained and was told run water down the pipes, when the dont get used for a few days that happens. Oh and here is a can of smelling good. Really... the ladies that checked us in were very nice even though we had to wait 15 minutes while they found computer paper to print out our receipt. We really stayed here because a lot of hotels were full when we came to town if that is happening to you try to find something else or only stay in the Texas room if you enjoy sewer smell and a bed that feels like your sleeping on granite.

Too much for too little

This is our favorite for Bavarian/German type food. It's a nice looking place inside although the outside can use some paint. Excellent meals and service and the beer (imported-German) to go with it. My wife and I had the sausage plates, our friends had the schnitzel (pork) all with cabbage soup. We agreed about the quality of the meal--excellent.

We ignored the guide books after asking the locals who all endorsed Friedhelm’s Bavarian Inn. Spectacular red cabbage, sausages, potatoes.   Excellent service.  Authentic.  Schnitzel was very,very nicely done.  

Great German Food in TX 

This may sound like its not true, but it is. I have 1,500,000 on Delta and a Diamond in the Hilton program. Great restaurant, food just like you were in the Black Forest, the wait staff right on the money. But, the men's room, the last time I seen this, was in basic army train in Fort Jackson in 1967. The men do not have a private urinal, they use a 6 foot tin, for want of other words, like a 55 gal drum cut in half. All the men, stand shoulder to shoulder peeing in the same 6 foot drum.  Nothing dividing, just shoulder to shoulder. The hotel is up stairs, nice location to stay.
